The whole situation lasted FOUR days and the US military was actively engaged the whole time! That's a LONG time. What was the White House doing for those four days in order to ensure a peaceful outcome? Are Somali pirates that difficult to please or fool?
-
I completely agree. But what I want to know, for the umpteenth time, is what happened before the Pirate had a AK-47 pointed at the US hostage. The pirates wanted something in exchange for the freedom of the ship crew. What did they want? Was it offered to them? WHAT NON-VIOLENT SOLUTIONS WERE EXPLORED BEFORE THE US SNIPERS KILLED THE SOMALI PIRATES?????????????????? WHAT THE 'F' DO YOU FIND SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND?????????????????????????????????????????
-
It's more than just Obama's waterboarding/torture hypocrisy. It should be automatic that Congress investigate ANY US President who authorizes the killing of people.
-
And what is more reasonable than asking the President of the United States to fully account for his decision to authorize US snipers to kill people? What's more important than life-and-death decisions?
-
Nice try but the buck stops with Obama's authorization. Without that authorization the US military commander never would have had the Somali pirates killed. During the presidential campaign Barack Obama made an issue regarding talking with Iran. Well, did he talk with the Somali pirates? Did he find out what they wanted? That was the point of the Somali pirates hijacking the ship - they wanted money. Why wasn't he willing to give them what they wanted so they would leave the hijacked ship peacefully to avoid violence? Why didn't Obama do that? Once President Obama got involved he could have said "no, give the Somali pirates what they want. I want a peaceful resolution here - we'll worry about the money later." What non-deadly options were explored and ruled out before Obama gave the kill authorization? And why were the non-deadly options ruled out? Bottom Line: The Somali pirates may have been killed needlessly. A Congressional inquiry is warranted here. No other nation or even NATO authorize snipers to kill pirates. Only President Obama does.
-
No, I'm being not sarcastic. I don't need to be familiar with maritime law to expect a Congressional investigation as to why President Obama authorized US Navy snipers to kill two Somali pirates. We need to know what other non-deadly options failed way before Obama authorized their killings. Far too many unanswered questions here. Pity the pirates are DEAD. We'll never get their side of the story. They're guilty as hell for piracy but we're not certain that they should have been killed. I guess that's lucky for Obama...somehow.
-
We need to hear President Obama explain that he had NO choice but to have the US Navy snipers kill the Somali pirates. We need to hear him explain that peaceful, diplomatic, non-deadly options were fully exhausted before he gave the go ahead to have the pirates heads blown off. To my knowledge, no other country, not even NATO authorizes snipers to kill pirates like Obama authorized here. So, why did Obama have the pirates killed like that?
-
I don't know how you can say that people would agree or disagree with Obama's decision since none of us know the full story. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a Congressional investigation of any US President who authorizes US Navy Seal snipers to kill anyone. I did send requests for an investigation to New York Senators Schumer and Gillibrand. Then I realized that the main witnesses, the Somali pirates, are now DEAD, per President Obama's authorization.
-
Again, how do we know that the Obama authorized killing of the Somali pirates saved an American life. Are you and your friend saying that there were NO non-deadly alternatives? We need to find out if Obama made the right decision.
-
No. Only when their killing was not warranted. This is why a detailed investigation of the killing of the two Somali pirates is required. We need to make sure that Obama's authorization was justified and the killing was warranted. Right?
-
Two pirates from Somalia were killed by the American military per Obama's authorization. Snipers actually did the killing. Snipers do one thing - aim, lock on a target, shoot and - DEAD! They don't negotiate. A congressional review as to whether the pirates actually NEEDED to be killed should be automatic. No? If it can be determined that the pirates didn't actually NEED to be killed, that other options weren't acted on, well then Obama should......you figure it out. Killing foreigners in international waters per Commander In Chief authorization is very serious business! If you don't have a good reason to kill, then you have some serious explaining to do. No?
-
Anytime a President authorizes the KILLING of someone, especially by the US military in international waters, a Congressional investigation should immediately follow. The Congressional report is the ONLY report that matters. Period. It is VERY likely that these moron pirates should have not been killed. If that's the case, what does that make President Obama? Two dead foreigners by the command of President Obama and a lot of unanswered questions. (blzrul- PLEASE stay out of this thread)
-
What reports? By who? Was there NO alternative? There's plenty of hijackings in the open ocean. Do other countries have a similar Kill policy by their elected leaders? Who is the last US President to authorize something like this? Congress should fully investigate. The President of the United States authorizing the killing of ANYONE is a very serious issue and full disclosure is warranted. Why isn't Congress investigating? There's two dead people. Dead because President Obama authorized it. Very serious!!
-
Are you absolutely certain about that? If so, was it absolutely necessary to kill the pirates? Were there NO other alternatives? Wouldn't a FULL investigation provide the answers?
-
How do you know all of this? Don't you think the President of the United States authorizing the killing of ANYONE warrants review?
-
...because while liberals are so obsessed with how the USA looks around the world re: supposed torture, we should also prove to the world that the President of the United States authorizing the killing (as in DEAD) of incompetent pirates was done ONLY as a last resort. An investigation is warranted and actually necessary. We should see what other (European) countries leaders have authorized pirate killings. Did George Bush authorize any *specific* killings during his Presidency like Obama did here?
-
Speaking of guns, did President Obama authorize the murder (shooting) of two inept, hapless Somali pirates a few weeks ago?
-
With Juron? Obviously NOT!

...I think the Buffalo Bills are being tailored for a quick, easy sale (and move to another city).

I know two Cornell University 2008 graduates who can't find jobs. And those two probably know of at least two more Cornell University graduates who can't find jobs. And those..... Sad. -

Actually, to me it reinforces the fact that NFL coaches and players don't want to play for the Buffalo Bills. -

http://www.syracuse.com/today/index.ssf/20...est_in_gre.html According to a report on ESPN.com on Tuesday, Central New York native and graduating Duke point guard Greg Paulus recently had a workout with the NFL's Green Bay Packers. Coming out of Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse, Paulus (6-foot-1, 180 pounds) picked basketball over football, despite holding scholarship offers to play quarterback for Notre Dame, Miami and several other top Division I schools. Paulus was a four-time all-state football player, a starter in the U.S. Army All-American game and a Gatorade football player of the year. As a point guard for the Duke basketball team, Paulus started in 95 games before seeing his role diminish this year, in his senior season.
