Public or private doesn't matter IMHO. New York is a decent size state. Putting the NYS college team in the far west Buffalo or the far east Long Island is just a bad idea. If there are central locations such as Binghamton or Albany it should be either of these two. If Albany and/or Binghamton aren't D1 then they should be. SU already has a big following in Rochester. In other college football threads I've inquired as to how popular SU sports is in Buffalo and the Buffalo natives (I think PTR may have chimed in) have said that SU sports isn't that popular in Buffalo.

SU is just too big. Worse, SU is right smack-dab in the middle of NYS! "New York State University" in Buffalo will never grow a fan base or appeal to many people east of Rochester. I guarantee it! Eastern NYS down to NYC-LI will never follow a "State" team 300-450 miles away especially with SU right in the middle.

Well, if it's going to be called "New York State University" I would presume that SUNY would want a school/sports program that everyone in New York State will support. Putting this flagship program in Buffalo means it would appeal to only about 1/4 of NYS geography and about 1/10 of the state population. Put it in Albany! ...or Binghamton!

A "New York State University" sports program in the extreme-far western part of New York State will never develop a fan base east of Rochester. I guarantee it! It probably needs to be in Albany!

If SUNY wants to create a flagship "New York State University" school it needs to be in the central part of the state - not in the extreme western (or eastern LI) end of the state. Having this in Buffalo will never generate any kind of fan base east of Rochester - even if you make the playoffs. Fans in the metro NYC area will NEVER pay attention to a college team 400 miles away.

I'm talking about geography. An NYSU sports program south or east of Syracuse ends the monopoly that SU has in New York State for areas south and east of Syracuse. An NYSU sports program west of Syracuse will fail because it won't be able to compete with SU.

I'm as big a fan of SU as anyone but the "New York's College Team" slogan is just that - a slogan. If SUNY put a flagship football team at Binghamton or Albany, SU would be marginalized to central and western New York. SU football played in NJ and the Bronx in the past year and neither game sold a lot of tickets. The more I think about this, from a SU perspective, the more I hate the idea of any SUNY sports program competing with SU.

It's a dumb idea. I live in Syracuse and I know for a FACT that there's TONS of SU fans not only in Syracuse but Rochester, as well. UB is way too far west in NYS (and Stonybrook is too far east) and the SU fan base in central New York will stifle any growth of a UB fan base east of western New York. Geographically either Binghamton or Albany would make sense.

I watch television programs about people who win the lottery. The program always states the fact that within something like five years of a person winning their respective lottery, 1/3 of them are broke.

The Buffalo Bills no longer exist. They are now the SU/Buffalo Bills!

1/2 of Bills fans are critical of the coaches and the other 1/2 are critical of those who are critical - very true. Also, had Andre Reed made a few more catches in the first 1/2 of SB 25 the Bills would have trounced the Giants by something like 40-10. But Andre Reed dropped a few easy passes, the Bills lost SB 25, and I've never had any respect for him ever since.

High unemployment all across upstate New York. Downstate New York is insanely expensive. $14.00 to cross a lot of NYC area bridges, etc. I watch the television programs House Hunters, Property Virgins, etc. Whenever they're looking at houses in the NYC metropolitan area they're hideously ugly in addition to being way overpriced. You can see the resigned depression on the home buyers faces.

Syracuse native and Bufffalo Bills President & CEO will draft SU Orange quarterback Ryan Nassib in the 2013 NFL draft. ...that's about it!

1. I've been to Jax. It's not Miami or Tampa/St. Pete but it's still a cool city. 2. I wouldn't mind being stuck in traffic in warm weather Miami after a SB. 3. I would hate to be stuck in traffic in likely cold NJ/NY after a SB.. 4. Between the likely cold weather and the logistics of getting from NJ to NYC or whatever, next year's SB sounds very unattractive already.

I'm on record as saying that next year's Super Bowl is going to be a disaster. In the cold is one thing. If you want a game in the cold then Chicago is the place to play. But northern New Jersey is NOT the place for the Super Bowl. The stadium is too far away from NYC.
