Forgot about Light. The same may happen with Jamal Brown of the Saints. Either guy could catapult a very successful offseason should the front office have the balls to do what it takes to land one of those guys. -
I'm back JohnC, I've seen a lot of both Cody and Dan Williams. Both would be awesome 2nd round picks for us and if I had my choice I would give a slight edge to Cody because this team really blew vs. the run this year and I think right now (when he's on the field) Cody would have a little bigger impact. Both players will need to dedicate themselves to improving their conditioning though and that is something nobody ever knows how much a player is willing to work for. At the same time, both could easily go in the 20's and be gone before we pick. Armchair QB, I know you asked for astros logic on Black but I'll throw in mine anyways..... not by what I've read but what I've seen: This guy will get killed playing tackle in the NFL because he cannot handle the speed of college DE's, not to mention the guys playing on Sundays. As I said before if we needed a guard maybe in the 3rd round but we don't. Finally JPS, I agree the Colts will draft a LT as well because they missed on Ugoh and Johnson is the next best option they had. Having a rare QB like Manning masks this usually glaring hole. The Colts will not put their faith in the 6th round stud long term. Write it down.

Someone started a Chambers thread the other day and I'm also on board with it. I'd go as far to say target him and Kevin Walter or a TE like Ben Watson to pair with Nelson. We have to make at least a decent splash in free agency the draft alone WILL NOT cut it....... get a couple skill guys and a LB in free agency and add beef in the draft. That's how it's done. -
I'm gonna pretend the Bills signed either Aubrayo Franklin or Ryan Pickett in free agency at DT. 1- tied with Bulaga and Davis OT's 2-DE Jason Pierre-Paul or TE Gresham 3- WR Jordan Shipley 4- best LB remaining, inside or outside, don't care which
-
Agreed BeastMode54. I really hope we can somehow get 2 of those you mention in free agency. Uncapped year or not, filling all the teams needs through the draft would take 3 years minimum, and then we probably have more by then. I don't care what Nix says, we need to add 2-4 starting material free agents (not Robert Royals and Larry Trippletts) EVERY offseason. It's the way of the new world man!
-
He's gonna go late 1st round anyways BeastMode54 so I wouldn't worry about it. I would really like to find a way to get Shipley though. This is a guy who along with a good TE can really keep the chains moving for an offense and even add some kind of threat to score TD's (what are those!!! ). I think he would become the guy we all wished Josh Reed would have turned into but never really quite got there.....
-
I would take Colt McCoy in round 2 and Shipley in round 3 but both will be gone by about 10 picks before our selection is up. No Vick for me sorry..............Vick will never win any meaningful games as a QB if any games again period.

I do agree QB should come first but both Bradford (I'm just not buying the panic button response on all the injury prone talk or him being too skinny, there is a thing known as the strength and conditioning program) or Clausen will both be gone and who knows how much it would take to get one of em' (probably more than 99% of this board would be willing to do) so I just don't see anything more than a stopgap at best situation at QB for the Bills next season. I hate it, but it looks that way. I live in Tennessee currently and while I like Dan Williams NO WAY at #9 and Suh and McCoy are both long gone as well....We need to have a solid free agency so we don't reach for any certain positions........
-
Just to add to astro...... Ciron Black is a stiff, even as a RT. If we had a need a G, I'd take a look, but fortunately we have 3 guys more than capable to play that position. If Okung or Bradford/Clausen isn't available at #9, it's time to bring back the great LB tradition Buffalo used to have and it starts with ROLANDO McCLAIN!!!
-
I agree BuffaloBill, unless the Bills can land either Wilfolk or Franklin in free agency, don't go there. I think all the other NT's are too old to throw a big contract at. Maybe Casey Hampton though.................

After reading this thread I thought something needed to be brought to light: out of all the teams who ran a 4-3, I believe only Tampa still ran it as a "Cover 2" scheme, and that was after they went away from it in the first half of the year. All the Dungy students running the 4-3 like Frazier and Meeks pretty much realize the "fast, undersized" crap doesn't work anymore. Wake up Stadium Wall, 4-3 doesn't mean Cover 2 anymore. As for which defense I prefer the Bills to run (3-4, 4-3), I don't really have one until I see how free agency unfolds, which I'm sure Nix and Gaily are pondering as well.

Played TE and DE for Eden in 1995 and we lost to Falconer. Their RB was their punter and on their first possesion the long snapper launched the snap over the dudes head which he somehow recovered himself and advanced it 80 yards for the TD. It was all downhill from there...........39-7 if I recall correctly. Great memory anyways I suppose.

Following this thread has been a good read, so I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents..... First, Denny's contract runs out at the end of the season so he will not be back reguardless of what D we run next season. Second, as long as we scrap the cover 2 I really don't have a preference on what D to go with but as long as we are talking 3-4, I don't think a switch would be as dramatic as some think. Finding a NT would be the key, but after that, it's not so bad: #1- stop the move Schobel to LB talk. He would be fine right where he is at as he is very good with leverage and with Stroud at LE along with a good NT we could be fine being a little light at RE. #2- goodbye Kelsay, you just don't fit anywhere in this scheme, and the jury will be out on K Williams and S Johnson to see if they can be capeable backups in the scheme. #3- Poz and Mitchell at the inside spots to start with but we'll be watching you closely...... #4- Maybin at an OLB spot but I'm not sure what side yet. #5- Find one more OLB and leave the secondary alone. So, really, that is only 2 immediate positions (NT and OLB) that need to be found immediately while other positions are evaluated. It's a very unclear future right now folks but for now I just felt like talking a little 3-4 for now. Let us all pray we get the coach and front office that this team needs......

No more excuses for Edwards
JStranger76 replied to BuffaloPride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While the Oline had a bad game, the QB still has to make a play here or there. Sure, there's only one Ben Rothlesburger, but he has to deal with yesterdays kind of line play EVERY game. There were plays to be made yesterday, and while nobody expects for a QB to capitalize on all of em', the QB still has to be able to make the D pay on at least a few of em'. -

I'm done with Edwards and Jauron. Sure, you can say if TO or whoever catches this or that pass Edwards would have had a good game. But you can't depend on one play to make or break a good game for a QB. He simply dosen't have any down the field vision whatsoever. What is even more frustrating is that not a single QB that is gonna be available from the draft looks like they will be a good to great pro IMO. Go for OT, DT and LB in the draft and pray we find a QB in free agency, which isn't very likely either!!! -
Trade TO to a Team That Can Actually Use Him!

It's like we're trying to break in a rookie QB. F**k the #1 and #2 wideouts!!!! We don't need em'!!!!! -
What does everyone think?
JStranger76 replied to Buffalonian-at-Heart's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The reason Schouman was getting a good rapport with Edwards was because of senority, not ability. That is IMO Dick Jauron's biggest problem. Now an opportunity is there for a TE with higher upside to build a rapport with Edwards which my good friends and fellow Bills fans, is a GOOD thing. -
Even if Roscoe is traded Johnson is still the 4th reciever, and if Hardy catches on he'd be the 5th reciever.
-
Agreed. Saints fans also seem to enjoy his enthusiasm and how could they not after watching Smith and Grant get their big paydays and then becoming a couple of lifeless slugs.

JStranger76 replied to Buffalonian-at-Heart's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I never thought much of Schouman, but at the same time I never would wish a season ending injury to any Buffalo Bill, and only less than a handful of guys in the entire league for that matter. In the long term though, like it has already been said, this will be good for Edwards progression as a QB in learning to find different targets as well as the rest of the TE's who IMO all have higher upside than Schouman. On almost any other team Schouman is a 3rd string TE, and I hope he has a full recovery and continues making a proffesional football players salary here or somewhere else. -
Two things: we run the cover 2 and don't have a LB on the roster that is better than average (at best) in pass coverage which puts the safetys at a disadvantage. They are too small (Whitner/Byrd) or too slow (Scott) to primarily cover TE's.....Trade for Derrick Johnson baby!!!!!!!
-
Many have been yelling for S Johnson, looks like he may get a shot. I'm pulling for him but not expecting any more than Reed gives us, if that. I love getting proved wrong though especially when it benefits the Bills!!! Still a few days from Sunday though......
