  1. That's what I was saying, i.e. that it's not the equipment and facilities, which you'd find on any pro team's compound, it's the atmosphere and company. Someone was trying to tell us that UM has better stuff than most pro teams.
  2. Again playing devil's advocate, why not? Are they making more than others, get more benes, what? And I'm not asking just you, since I know that no one tips them. Like I said, I (now) tip everyone who expects to be tipped (and if I'm missing a few, sue me for not knowing what everyone makes on-the-books, although I guess that if I did I should also know what they make off-the-books), and I tip pretty well. I just think that we can extend this to include everyone in the service industry, even the fast food workers.
  3. Yeah I get it. But like I said, should I be responsible for giving them what their employers don't? Where are THEIR unions/reps? And why not tip the fast-food workers, who likewise make crap and perform a service? I am, and I try to do my best. That's why I STARTED this thread.
  4. I've got it: revenue sharing and a salary cap! Yeah, that's the ticket.
  5. What's the NBA?
  6. Don't get me wrong. When I learned that other people tip them, and I realized what you said above, I started tipping. It's just that I was astounded when I learned that people DID tip them. Like I said, in the restaurant biz it's been accepted for decades. On the flip-side though, I guess any job in the service sector could be open to tipping. But where do we draw the line? Should I as a consumer be reponsible for tossing a bone to someone getting the min from their employer? Should I be responsible for knowing what everyone makes and what benes they get? Should I tip my doctor if he does a good job, or not because he makes too much? Should he expect a tip? I don't know.
  7. Thanks. Shall I delete this thread? Or do people want it moved?
  8. Thanks for the "tips" peeps. I also think that tipping has gotten out of hand. I couldn't believe that hotel room cleaners (formerly: maids) even get tips! I mean, where does it end? As for the restaurant biz, I accept that tipping is part of it. I've always wondered how they can get away with paying servers well below minimum wage, and I chalk that up to the idea that it usually gets taken-care-of with tips, and that if a server doesn't make minimum over a certain period of time, the owner is obligated to pay the difference (or maybe I'm just dreaming that last part). In any case, it's built into the system so it's understandable/excusable. Knowing that a server makes about 1/3 what a "curbside" person does, and I assume the disparity is a reflection of the difference in tips since a server probably sees more/bigger tips than a "curbside" person, gives me a guide to tipping the "curbside" person a couple bucks because they have to take your order, package the stuff, ring you up. My last question though is, do cooks share in tips? I've heard busboys do.
  9. Just wanted to know what, if anything, people tipped for so-called "curbside" service? I don't think 15% is necessary and I was fine with just going in to pick it up and not tip at all, but now that they bring it to you, I feel obligated to tip. BTW, no need to move this thread. I'll delete it once it dies down.
  10. I didn't ascertain whether the bank official told him it was a scam, but suggested the new account to protect his larger account, or whether the official never heard of it but still suggested the account. And my FIL showed him the letter, so he knew what it was for.
  11. Like I said before, UM doesn't have any equipment that any NFL team doesn't have.
  12. My father-in-law who is in his mid-60's has received 3 of these types of things (not this exact one, but similar). The first time, he took it to his bank, who helped him open a small bank account with a couple dollars in it (before I got wind of him doing it). When he told me, I told him it was a scam and went with him to close the bank account. Then he got another one. He told me about it. I told him to throw it away. He still felt obligated to take it to his bank and talk to someone else. I said "go ahead" and made sure he didn't open another account. I'm sure he filed it with the other one, somewhere in his filing cabinet. Then AGAIN he received another one, and after a few days told me because he felt embarrassed to do so. I got testy with him and said "THROW IT OUT!" He didn't and left it laying around, so I shredded it. Oy! Basically these things prey on the elderly and/or naive. It's sad and pathetic, but we're talking about criminals here.
  13. Better psych meds these days? People saving film/media space for porn? They've infiltrated us and are already taking-over?
  14. Maybe aliens have seen enough of Britney, J-Lo, and Tom Cruise to WANT to stay away from earth. Lord knows, I'd do the same if I were them.
  15. Maybe he meant to say he'd like to kiss the ass of those fans who call them greedy? A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Or as Dan Quayle so eloquently paraphrased it, "what a waste it is, to lose one's mind."
  16. The diehard fans will not be able to stay away, but it's such a small group that the sport won't be raking in the cash like it once did. What the NHL needs to do is get as many people in the seats as it can, and if that includes the "posers," so be it. Not all people who attend NFL games, and this is especially true for the SB, are diehard football fans and can be called "posers." And with JR's attitude, he's effectively hurting his and the NHL's chance at making more money for themselves. Stupid move by a stupid player, representing a collectively stupid group of players.
  17. Windex to cure anything. Duct tape to fix anything.
  18. Stupid fuggin players. Yeah, stay away fans; Roenick will still me making money off his personality.
  19. Do they still make Coca-Cola flavor? Man I loved that stuff!
  20. Who knows what TD will offer/be willing to pay, and what Nate will accept? But what I DO know is that, if Nate isn't signed to a long-term deal before the start of UFA next season, he WILL be franchised and then traded. Count on it.
  21. I look for the Bills to handle JP the way the Pats handled Brady. That is, rely mostly on great defense, ST's, and a heavy dose of the running game. I think that adding speed in Parrish in the slot will help spread the field and provide for a better running game, and more outlets for JP. If one of the top 2 TE's can comeback to close to 100%, the Bills will have a really good offense around JP.
  22. Good story. Gandy telling you you were FOS was funny and telling, because it seems he has a grasp of the situation. And how did you know it was him? Despite him being a concern of every Bills fan, I'd have to say that I wouldn't be able to pick him out of a police lineup (of other huge men), much less a casino.
  23. Have you ever seen a grenade or landmine go off, much less near a person? It AIN'T pretty. It's nothing like "just" getting shot.
