  1. The Bills offered the job to Bates last Tuesday. So far no word either way, at least officially. And the Bills have interviewed just Lynn and Fewell so far. I don't know if they've closed the book on him, per se, but they can take their time since they're really the only remaining DC position left in the NFL.
  2. Not true. The 1998-2000 defenses did.
  3. I'd be happy with a guy like GW as DC, Saunders as OC, and April as ST's coach, and then the positional assistants. To hog all the coaches like that, knowing that they're going to be stepping on each others' toes, is ridiculous overkill, which is Snyder's wont.
  4. Personally I can't see how Cutler did anything but HURT his stock with his 3 for 9 1 INT performance in the Senior Bowl. Maybe, and I hope, I'm wrong, because I was disappointed since I wanted him to make himself worthy of being selected in the top-8 picks. Hopefully he shows well at the Combine.
  5. Wow, Bob McNair is willing to do what Ralph wouldn't and pay Sherman $3M a year just to coach the O-line and be AHC?
  6. I think it's well-known that prior to the 1990's, Ralph was cheap. However after that, let's take a look at things WRT coaching. He had Levy until 1997 and Levy wasn't underpaid from what I recall. Then when he "retired," the Bills logically gave the job to Wade Phillips, who was the Bills' excellent DC and who had been a HC before. He lasted until the end of 2000. Then TD entered the picture. Having been burned by a strong HC in the past, it's ENTIRELY possible that TD was the one who was steering the Bills towards coordinators who he could control, and also pay less, thus being able to sell it to Ralph while ensuring he never had to suffer through another Pgh situation. And Ralph has been anything BUT cheap when it comes to FA's, so I don't see how anyone can say he's purposely being cheap with coaches. Why one and not the other?
  7. I'll wait for it to happen first. Like PTR said, too many cooks...
  8. If the Jets are keen on drafting Cutler but not paying him #4 money, trading down to #8 and taking slightly less (a 1st, 3rd, and 4th) than the draft pick value chart indicates could very well happen.
  9. I suspect that he's been pricing himself out of the market. He's guaranteed to make $1.85M over the next 2 years and seems to be saying to teams that either they pay him a premium over that, or he'll sit out the year. The Pack/Rams offered him $1M a year to remain/become their DC and he turned them down.
  10. I hope he still is. He'd be making a BIG mistake sitting out for the year, hoping for a HC'ing that will NOT come next year, and even a DC job that's better and/or pays more might not materialize either. But the fact that they offered him the job means that Jauron felt he could work with him.
  11. Well the Bills DID offer Bates the DC job.
  12. I haven't seen it posted anywhere, but I'd be surprised if Jauron wasn't making $1.5M a year. And Bates turned down offers of $1M a year. Dumb move on his part because no one will offer him a HC job if he sits out the year, and he probably won't make more money as a DC next year, while being out of the loop for a year will hurt. I thought he was smarter than that.
  13. I took LA's post to be a joke. I didn't realize his dad was dying because I don't read blogs. Sorry to be so flippant.
  14. They're scouting Walmart greeters for future front office positions.
  15. I loved him in "Jane's Addiction!" "Wish I was, ocean size...." And hey, again since Bates hasn't formally declined the Bills' offer, it's even more pressure applied to him. And with the Bills having the last DC spot left, they can take their time now.
  16. Well the Jets bit on the Dwayne Robertson hype a couple years ago. Why not again? Actually Marv has said that he's high on Cutler. I guess he's learning quickly about the draft and how to wheel and deal!
  17. The Bills didn't want Sherman as HC. That much we know. And he turned down an offer to be OC. But he'll be an AHC and OL coach for his buddy Gary Kubiak. Yeah, that's who we wanted coaching the Bills all along.
  18. It could be that interviewing Lynn was a way to get Bates to spit or get off the pot. Hopefully it makes him want to accept the job. Despite rumors, I haven't heard officially that Bates has declined the job.
  19. Check out this list of coaches and what each one does: Joe Gibbs-Head Coach/Team President Al Saunders-Assoc. HC - Offense Gregg Williams-Asst. HC - Defense Joe Bugel-Asst. HC - Offense Don Breaux-Off. Coordinator Jack Burns-Offensive Assistant Rennie Simmons-Tight Ends Coach Earnest Byner-Running Backs Coach Stan Hixon-Wide Receivers Coach Bill Lazor-Quarterbacks Coy Gibbs-Quality Control - Off. Greg Blache-Def. Coord./Def. Line Dale Lindsey-Linebackers Coach DeWayne Walker-Secondary/Cornerbacks Steve Jackson-Passing Game Coord./Safeties Danny Smith-Special Teams Kirk Olivadotti-Quality Control - Def./Spec. Teams Asst. John Dunn-Head Strength/Conditioning John Hastings-Strength/Conditioning Bobby Crumpler-Strength/Conditioning My god! This friggin' team has not 1, not 2, but THREE "coordinators" on offense (Saunders, Bugel, and Breaux), 2 coordinators on defense (Williams and Blache), and THREE strength and conditioning coaches! They also have an assistant for each coordinator position. You gotta be kidding me! The NFL should have a maximum roster for coaches.
  20. If that's the number, that's great. At that number, the Bills could easily afford to keep him for the year, in a worst-case scenario. And if they were looking to trade him, teams would know the Bills don't HAVE to trade him and that would increase his value. BTW, I checked that askthecommish.com link, and it gave today's date.
  21. The coaches the Bills brought in aren't inexperienced teachers. They have experience in their current jobs, unlike a fair number of coaches the past 5 years.
  22. Being gloomy and DOOMY is a defense mechanism. Basically it's a way to not be disappointed. If the teams sucks, it's an "I told you so" and the person feels good on a certain level that he/she was right. If the team does well, it's "great, they're winning" and again the person feels good on a certain level because the team is doing well.
  23. Really, he COULD have picked someone better than Harry Chapin. I mean "Cats in the Cradle" can only take you SO far.
  24. Considering that right after the Bills pick, the Lions pick and need a QB, the Jets might not want to risk losing him and will think long and hard about taking Cutler at #4. Or they could say, call up the Bills at #8, offer slightly less in trade than the points value chart would indicate. In any case, the Jets being interested in Cutler is good news for the Bills.
