  1. Actually I'd like some other American skater to win silver and Davis to win bronze, but I don't know if Cheek, ro someone else, is going to race, much less be a medal contender. It means little money in endorsements. Good job, Shani! You've got a gold medal but made yourself unpalatable to Americans, off of whom you COULD have made good money.
  2. Sorry but Backus and Pearson are a) not going to come cheap, and b) not going to play second fiddle to the other (i.e. I don't see Pearson coming to be a backup). As I said, a top FA center is the Bills' biggest priority, and I think Marv knows this, considering the early-90's Bills' offense was predicated on a great center (Hull).
  3. I'd bring Peerless back for a minimum salary and no promises of being a top-3 WR. But I'd still want a replacement for Moulds.
  4. I guess there really IS an "I" in Shani Davis. What a tool. I hope Hedrick wins gold in the 1500 and Davis comes in 2nd.
  5. I agree with replacing the other guys...except for Gandy. I think he's a natural guard and will improve the LG position immensely. Williams, Villy, Anderson, and Jerman can be released without hurting the team at all, IMHO (Villy is a liability in pass protection now and Preston could replace him). Again that leaves center to be upgraded, and that should be the Bills' top priority in FA. Forget finding one in the draft, because it's been a crapshoot at best at that position.
  6. I've mentioned David Givens. He'd be a great replacement. His role in Buffalo would be akin to what he's been doing in NE.
  7. Teague is an average center. By keeping him, you're basically resigning yourself to having average play at that position. And outside of LT IMHO, center is the next most important position on the O-line. The minimum I want from the Bills is a good-great OC in FA. But Teague was overpaid for his performance and will likely find offers for significantly less than what he was making with the Bills.
  8. The Bills D played well in the season-opening win over the (lowly) Texans. I'd be more inclined to agree with you if the Bills had lost that opening game, or even if they didn't dominate the way they did. But the D sucked last year because of the loss of Pat Williams. The proof of that is how the Bills' defense played after losing Ted Washington and before they got Sam Adams, i.e. 2001-2002. The Bills' scheme requires 2 good DT's in the middle. As for JP, handing him the reigns after basically half a rookie season, may not have been the smartest thing to do, but did we want to go through another season of Bledsoe and have JP miss-out on valuable PT? I think that once the decision was made, they should have stuck with JP, because in the end, the Bills won 5 games total, with 3 coming while Holcomb was starting. Build-up the O-line with at least 1 proven great player (Bentley), add another solid OT (RT if Peters plays LT), and THEN let's see what we've got. And depending on what's going-on with Everett and Moulds, maybe add a TE and/or WR.
  9. And apparently Fletcher and Bentley work-out. Hopefully that's a way-in to getting him, not to mention a good deal.
  10. I'd guess they were looking more from the Bills than the Bills wanted to pay. So let them test the market, see what's out there for them, and wish them good luck.
  11. There is a difference between cap hit and average salary. Say the Bills sign him for 6-years, $36M, with a $12M signing bonus. The structure of it will most likely be a small base salary in the first year ($600K-$1M), which would make the cap hit for 2006 $3M. And if the Bills release just Mike Williams, they'll save $4.9M, which will easily cover the first year cap hit for Bentley. And no the Browns aren't a better team than the Bills, and they aren't one of the better teams in the NFL. Money talks, and we'll see how much Crennel is willing to pony-up, being that he comes from the Pats, who never paid top-dollar.
  12. Check out this article: http://eagles.scout.com/2/500598.html Frankly I don't think that the "have-mores" will get their way. The 7 teams who want the cap to be based on ALL revenue, but to only share what's already being shared, need at least 2 more teams to join them, and the only real shot they have is Chicago. And despite what they say, they/NFL do NOT want to not workout a new deal, because it will lead to things like the NFLPA suing and the union decertifying, no draft, and will lead smaller market teams to stop paying-for big name FA's and pocketing the difference, which will lead them to lose and to viewership dropping. That will lead to the networks grumbling and offering less money on the next round of contracts. So it's a matter of who blinks first, and it will be the "new guard."
  13. You think the Bills can't pay him? And the word is he'd like to play for Cleveland, because it's his hometown. Are the Browns a "better" team, not just compared to the Bills, but the rest of the league?
  14. I never knew the bottom 30 things either.
  15. Exactly. I won't say JP was perfect, but to blow a 20-point lead in a single quarter is pathetic. And calling ANYTHING but running plays to eat up the clock, after Moulds took the passing game with him, is stupidity.
  16. Same here. And my point was that it's almost impossible to not hear about the results before they happen, and that, along with the U.S. not medalling in all the events, is the main reason the ratings are suffering.
  17. I was having doubts about JP...until the 2nd Miami game. If not for Moulds' actions, the defense falling asleep, and Mularkey's bone-headed play-calling, that would have been an impressive win for him.
  18. There's a reason the Olympics is getting killed by American Idol and other tripe. It's because you can get the results well before the events air in the evening. And as you said, it's almost impossible to avoid hearing about them, when they occur 5 hours earlier.
  19. Will Antonio Gates come with him? Otherwise, not worth the money.
  20. The problem is that the "new guard," who bought teams in the largest markets, built stadiums using their own money because they figured the unshared/"local" revenue would be enough to pay for it sooner rather than later. That's fine. But now that the NFLPA wants unshared/local revenue to count towards the cap and the "new guard" wants to as well, because they know it will benefit them more on-the-field since they'll be able to outspend smaller market teams, then they have a real problem on their hands. They shouldn't have been so quick to give-in to the NFLPA and give more money to the players, but start bitching and moaning about giving it to therir fellow owners.
  21. What about Bon Scott? Even Brian Johnson? And if you're talking Gillian, Coverdale, etc., what about Joe Lynn Turner? Don Dokken (albeit he played-off of Lynch's ass-kicking guitar wizardry)?
  22. I thought Mawae was a shell of his former self. And picking up Kendall could be a good move.
  23. He's a Grammy-winning producer, most notably of the song "Don't Fear The Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult. Dummy.
  24. Hey yeah, where IS Kip Winger on that list? And Janie Lane?
