  1. I asked R. Rich to help me out with this one. I had him look at his 2005 Lindy's, which tells how each player was acquired. Apparently the Bills only lost 2 UFA's (Williams and Jennings) and signed 2 UFA's (Holcomb and Anderson). So technically they had a net loss of zero UFA's. But Williams and Jennings were MUCH more highly-paid than Holcomb and Anderson, and at least in the case of Williams, played at a much higher level. Hopefully that works out to the Bills getting something, but I wouldn't expect a 3rd rounder (surprise, surprise).
  2. Take a look at every good player's contract. There's a large signing bonus and usually a small initial base salary that escalates to something ridiculous around the penultimate year of the contract. That's to off-set the huge signing bonus. And when you're dealing with an older player, restructuring isn't the best idea like it is with younger players. Again Ralph has never had a problem paying his players, and Moulds have been one of the top-paid players the last 4 years. Ralph stopped being cheap with players back in the end of the 80's.
  3. So you're saying it's a good idea to pay Moulds $6M in salary for this season? If that's the cawse, then ALL teams are "cheap." No one wants to spend a lot of money on players who are on the downside of their careers.
  4. Ralph has had no problem dishing out the cash...for players. Coaches might be a different story, but not players.
  5. I noticed that as well. I guess it worked because he actually answered the questions with MORE than 2 words.
  6. Word I'm hearing is he's in India and missed a drug test, which constitutes a "failed" test. If true, you think the NFL will try and give him a makeup test? Wouldn't surprise me, with the way things are going. And the test for him is no more "random" than is finding a doobie.
  7. I believe all he had to do was play 1 more year for the Dols and he got to keep his bonus money. I'm sure this was all planned on his part. Don't cry for him.
  8. Why he's not suspended for life is unbelievable.
  9. It's greasing the wheels to get the Iranians to accept the Russians' proposal to enrich their uranium for them. If that's what it takes...
  10. LOL! I wanted to post that, but forgot her name.
  11. They want to move him to OG.
  12. I'm happy they're smart and franchising him. At worst you keep him for $5.9M and at best you trade him for a 1st rounder, which you use to select a CB who becomes a cheaper and good player.
  13. Sorry AD, but Pete is no longer among the living.
  14. Doesn't matter. You don't know what you're getting into in any situation. And Bentley can ask Peerless how playing for the hometown fans was. While Fletch can give Bentley the inside scoop of playing in Buffalo versus Cleveland, his hometown as well.
  15. Put yourself in Derrick Mason's shoes...more money in New England....Baltimore it was.
  16. Look for another addition to mama Davis' e-mail shitlist.
  17. The character issue is probably what prevents him from coming here.
  18. I agree with all of this. Although Euhus WAS coming off a late-2004-season ACL injury. Well if you're not counting on Everett, who has had a year to get acclimated to the NFL, would you be willing to trust a rookie TE? And I'd be fine adding a FA TE, but as a backup, he probably wouldn't be starting material. My issue was more that you cannot compare Everett to Aiken. Whether you can count on them, I'd say definitely no for Aiken, but Everett is a maybe. What that's worth I don't know, and I'd be fine with signing a decent backup TE, but short of spending a high pick on TE, with no guarantees of anything, I don't know what else the Bills can do go ensure a good TE situation.
  19. Depends on if they can sign an alternative, and how he produces. But I think that, unless they sign at least ONE top OL FA, it will be a bad off-season. Again, why would ANYONE want to come to Buffalo, ever? It's not like they've been a great team anytime in the past 6-7 years. Yet the Bills still get FA's. As for Bentley, this is specific to him, not all FA's. He has said he wants to play for Cleveland because it's his hometown. Well Buffalo isn't too far away (3 hour drive), and Peerless Price proves that playing for the hometown team isn't as great as it sounds. Plus the Bills have another Cleveland native in London Fletcher, who works out with Bentley, and can give him the inside scoop. Last of all, the Bills will be able to be competitive with salary offers. I agree that putting all your eggs in one basket isn't a good idea, but this guy is a proven Pro Bowler at an incredibly important position on the O-line, and he'll be able to play near home without all the negatives of it.
  20. I don't know. Bentley is the guy I want.
  21. The difference between Everett and Aiken is that Aiken has proven himself to be little more than a ST's player. Everett hasn't had the chance to prove anything. And his ACL injury was suffered almost a year ago, meaning by the time the season rolls around, he will be almost a year and a half removed. Also it apparently wasn't as bad as it could have been, and ACL surgery has come a long way.
  22. I don't know enough about him to know if he'll make a good center. Bentley OTOH is a Pro Bowler there. So Preston could play RG.
