  1. From my eyes and some of what I've read. The loss of Moseley wasn't just his direct play impact but included the entire loss of communication as the QB of the defense. It's his job to make adjustments and to communicate them to the rest of the D. The Bills were shifting all of the time. His job was to make sure the D counters it and stays on the same page. Losing his experience and communication did really hurt the Jets. But us no longer shooting ourselves in the foot helped the most.
  2. I lived in Cleveland during that time. BB was a good coach there, but he was cold and not sentimental. He benched and released beloved local boy QB Bernie Kosar saying he had "Declining Skills" in the beginning of his 3rd year there. Honestly most Cleveland fans never could forgive him for that and they didn't had a strong enough attachment to BB as he was still a young head coach and hadn't yet proven himself (6/10 & 7/9 & 7/9). Loyalty plays very strong in Cleveland and BB is ruthless.
  3. I lived in Cleveland for 4 years. Every Monday after an all-too-common Browns loss, the sadness was palpable. The whole community felt down, which made the bad weather even worse! I don't root against them and their "factory of sadness" (except vs the Bills of course). Screw all the other successful teams in other cities, let them suffer some.
  4. This is a blowup of a picture taken of a Bills conference room IIRC. There's more info available in threads/online about this picture that aligns with what we know about what the Bills did or were rumored to do (such as the trade w/Denver, not wanting Lamar, etc). I'm getting too old to remember all the details.
  5. I've been super happy with what I've been reading. Especially since I've moved around the country a lot and have teams in different cities that I pay some attention to. But just looking at the Bills articles, I've been very impressed. I'm a cheapskate, but I'm still willing to pay for good value, and I feel like I'm getting it.
  6. I want to see very sad Jets fans
  7. I agree with you that we got lucky. The Jets PAID for the right to basically guarantee picking ahead of us. It was a steep price, but worth it if Darnold pans out. However, we DO know that Beane had Allen #1. There's the leaked picture of the whiteboard from the draftroom. It shows the QBs numbered 1-6 by their school. Next to it is circled our draftpicks #12, 22 & 53 with an arrow to Denver #5. This trade offer has been independently reported. The QBs were Wyoming( Allen), USC (Darnold), OK Univ (Mayfield). Not making the trade cut were #4 UCLA (Rosen), #5 Ok St ( Rudolph ), and #6 Richmond (Lauletta). NOTE that Lamar Jackson wasn't even on our list as we had just escaped, I mean traded away a run first QB in Tyrod Taylor. Interesting that the top three QB needing teams all ended up drafting their #1 choice. Hopefully we're right.
  8. How'd you back your way into the pro-pickem? I keep getting page not found. Updated: Ah, edited the link from survivor to "pickem"
  9. I also enjoy the ongoing gentle harassment of Murphy.
  10. If they start Fitz, they won't have the first pick. He has enough magical games to push them to the later stages of the top 10 or worse. I like Fitz, but he's seriously hot and cold.
  11. He has a tough hill to climb. He's got a little bit of a learning curve as the CFL WR game is different than the NFL one is. Being large and physical is one of his better talents and that won't show at the beginning of camp. There's ALWAYS receivers who look good over summer and at the beginning of camp but quickly fade once the pads come on and the rough, physical part of the NFL game starts. That's when you see others start to shine. We'll see if he'll do the same, he still has a legitimate chance. Like many of us, I root for people who've turned their life around through recognition of faults and with hard work. The ole' prodigal son thing, I guess.
  12. To just focus on routes & coverages without the additional complications of pass protection failures.
  13. Shrug. I like it. Removes two crappy preseason games and replaces it with two meaningful games. Pro football is incredibly taxing on players. This gives a chance to for injured players to heal up mid season. That's safer for the players AND the team to protect the player long term. Helps make the team/player make smarter decisions on whether to play a guy or not any given week. I agree on the QB exemption though.
  14. I agree. I also can't wait to run him over. He's definitely seems like more of a contact guy than a finesse one. I just really liked how he skipped over the big cues and highlighted the little ones which gave him the final piece to the play call. When asked about the details he'd then tie it back to the bigger picture concepts. It was refreshing point of view compared to the analysts reporting (which I still very much enjoy)
  15. This is from last month, but I found it to be really interesting having a player do the film analysis vs couch analyst's work. Yes he's a NYJet, but it was good enough for me to overlook. A LOT of time is spent describing the visual cues (tells) that he sees various players do and matches them with prior film study on that team. I would say that it's more than just film study of individual players, but offensive system analysis to understand where the attack is likely to come from. REALLY shows how much you have to have an offensive system that is flexible enough to regularly change/add wrinkles so as to not be predictable. Predictability looks to be fatal.
  16. Ironically, I think that there's a nice kernel of a solid defensible viewpoint in what Ronin's been saying here in this thread. It's a shame he has consistently wanted to stroke the flames of trolldom rather than reasonably defend viewpoints contrary to the prevailing wisdom / wishful thinking of optimistic fans. It's legitimate to have different takes on what data means and everyone's eye test is a little different. But it's not a discussion and not really worth reading when it really becomes more about pouring gasoline on a bonfire to agitate others. I like to learn more and even hear about views that differ from mine. But any point of Ronin/STG gets lost by him trying to piss people off and not engage in an honest conversation. A pity.
  17. Good for him. It shows he's been working hard. May it show up on the field!
  18. Eh. It's summer for a second year QB. Who has about 9 new starters compared to last year. While missing 3 of his top 4 WR. Against a near complete returning defense which was highly rated last year. Of course he'll struggle. If he's sucking during preseason game 3, then worry will mean something.
  19. I give. Only stuttering effect character I can think of is Max Headroom.
  20. I lived in Cleveland when he came there. He consistently made moves that made you say WTF? He just came across as a real screw-up. All the talent, but none of the brains or self-discipline to use it in life.
  21. Not just comedy gold for Nelson as the best pick. In the poll about how our fans liked the draft picks, Nelson was the ALL TIME high and Jarius Byrd was the (IIRC) LOWEST all time. We're a passionate bunch, but not always correct... I really think people overvalue the _position_ that was drafted rather than the player. Byrd as a db = bad draft pick. Nelson as a TE (a perpetual need) = good. Man, we did a solid hit with picks 2, 3, 4. Wood, Byrd & Levitre. What a haul it could have been with a better 1st round choice instead of Maybin (*cough*)
  22. Great article and some sweet blocking clips. Showing some tough assignments and some solid work done by Lee. As for Lee telegraphing what we're doing, well It's a combination of both playcalling and being a good team. A good team wins by running/passing the ball even if the defense knows it's coming. We weren't a good team before. Here's to us becoming one. As somebody else said, we got the best case of what Fisher hoped to become by someone who has already done it.
  23. I hope not, but his contract says he is. We have him for one year and only for peanuts.
