At #8 do we take the best player available?
Mark Long Beach replied to The_Real's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We're not that thin on LBs. We have 3 starters and 1 good replacement (Crowel) along with 2 good special teamers. That's a lot better than most teams. As for being thin... heck we were 29th in offense and 30th in defense. It's not like we can take much of a step back. We've got a bumper crop of free agents and cap room to get some. I'm not that worried. -
Broncos cut three prominent players

Hell I'd take Putzier too. Both Anderson (backup/capable starter) and Putzier (starter) are WAY better than what we have now. -
Will Shields a possible cap casualty.
Mark Long Beach replied to CJPearl2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm guessing he meant not a possibility but was already a sure thing...? Oh, and I also wouldn't complain about having him. -
Some cap info on all teams and which
Mark Long Beach replied to buffaloboyinATL's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As I understand this cap mess: Our cap position may have changed because next year could be an uncapped year all Not-Likely-To-Be-Earned (NLTBE) bonuses that would normally count towards next year must count on this years cap. If the labor agreement gets extended then they would count towards next years cap... -
Pro Football Weekly Top 7 Picks

I find it hard to believe that the raiders will pick Vince Young unless they plan on converting him to another position. Al Davis loves the downfield pass. Always has, always will. -
If you're lucky, you're playing doctor with your avatar. And I hope you're wrong, Doctor.

Hold on a gol'darn minute...!

All I've gotten is stuff off of the front page. Just a couple sentences. Cool. I'm happy to have AVP back. I like having some connection to past players who care. -
My college roommate is now a Bill!!
Mark Long Beach replied to KCNC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I won't stretch to say a "very good" TE, but I'd say he could be a solid contributer. I was very disapointed with his play last year though. Could probably say that about just about everyone on the team though... (Moorman, Fletcher, McGee and even Lindell excepted) -
How long do you think before Fairchild recruits..

I wouldn't complain about having more than 1 tight end worth a hoot. But is this guy? -
Bills Sign New Defensive Line Coach
Mark Long Beach replied to Spanky46's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
On face value it seems solid. Don't know much about the guy. Seems a little odd to hire a DLC before a DC. Maybe they were worried they'd lose him to a team that had already hired a DC... -
Very nice work! I also appreciated the nice detail about Jaurons stint during the turbulent Chicago years. I had forgotten just how screwy they really were. The whole playing in Champaign (I went there for grad work) was a joke. All the while the new GM was just itching to fire him without getting pilloried for it. I'm not thrilled with DJ, but I'm really tired of not-ready-for-prime-time coordinators too. Hopefully deficiencies can be covered up with everyone trully rowing together at the same time. Unlike the last 5 years. (short passing I mean power running attack anyone?)

Suuuuuuuumo! I caught the quarterfinals on. It was great! I was glad to see Iron Mountain beat that Bulgarian. While I liked the Bulgarian's style, he was a prick. Did you see him push down his opponents and stand over them after he won? I like sumo, but they don't show enough. For a while they broadcasted a bunch on espn2, but that was a few years ago. Hmmmm... football AND sumo, I guess I just like to see big fat guys slam into each other.

Where is Dwight Adams these days?
Mark Long Beach replied to Hardy Pyle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
yup -
Without knowing these guys, I also like some of the positions drafted. Especially starting off with DT. I suspect we need to take another DT since we apparently have no worthwile bodies there.

Keep: Kevin Thomas, CB Mike Schenk, LS Nate Clements, CB - for a reasonable price. Ryan Denney, DE - reasonable price. Angelo Crowell, LB Josh Stamer, LB Iffy: Justin Bannan, DT Ron Edwards, DT Mario Haggan, LB Trey Teague, C No: Sam Aiken, WR Shane Matthews, QB

JP has an injured throwing shoulder and hasn't been able to practice. So our backup QB is going to start this weekend. Don't forget that it's a short NFL week, since we play on Saturday. That's it. That's the story. What in the world is going on with all this spewage about Desperate moves to fake injury to win games... QB quits on team... Coach trying to save job by using our backup QB... ??? What crazy nonsense. Please, take a deep breath people.

What's so big about Tom Modrak?

"Ralph Wilson has a history of hiring jokes to be his GM." The "source" lost all credibility with me with that statement. -
Why can't we get players like that?
Mark Long Beach replied to JCBoston's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good for Tucker. I enjoyed rooting for him. -
Who on the Bills are you not disgusted with..

Fletcher Moorman McGee April Lesser degree: Schenk (Gotta agree with the long snapper comment above) Peters Crowel Evans Gandy Amazingly: Lindell Appalled: ... never mind, too long a list. -
Roscoe Parrish aka Antonio Brown
Mark Long Beach replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
naw, not really. The elusiveness isn't there so much at the NFL level, but at least he has hands. Antonio Brown couldn't catch a cold. -
*really* interesting football story

Nice find. Thanks. -
DT please.

Hmmm.. Better than I remember him doing. I do remember him doing well as a coordinator. I think that it was that those teams never lived up to expectations. That they did a good chunk worse than they were expected to do...? Evin if it was unfair such as those Jets teams clearly in decline. In my mind I've mistakenly lumped in Kotite's disasterous record in with his. Thanks for the clarification. Although it doesn't alter my main point that a great college coach (which he most certainly is) doesn't automatically make a great NFL coach.
-
Truthfully ALL the coordinators that get promoted to head coaching jobs are one of the very best at being a coordinator. That's why they get chosen for the next step. Look at what Greggo has done now that he's been handed back a defensive coordinator role. He's made lemonade out of a bunch of lemons. Don't forget he did a spectacular job back with Tenn too. But he sure didn't do so hot in his first run as a head coach (which we know all too well). Weiss MAY be/have been a good head coach. But it has nothing to do with how well he's doing at Notre Dame.
-
I don't deny that Weiss has done a great job at Notre Dame. Strangely enough, I kinda root for them. (Although their handling of Willingham wasn't done all that well) I also agree that he's not leaving there anytime soon. Regardless of how well he's done as a COLLEGE head coach, he's still only a coordinator at the NFL level and NOBODY knows how well he'd do as an actual NFL head coach. This is my point, a good NFL coodinator does not equal good NFL head coach. Just look at Greggo, Norv Turner, Pete Carroll, Jim Haslett, Dave McGinnis, (hopefully not: Mike Mularky), etc. So quit whining about choosing a DIFFERENT unproven head coach selection. It's hindsight and luck and impossible to prove otherwise.
