Defensive scheme more complex
Mark Long Beach replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hey, I LIKE being undefeated! -
Agreed. Our young receivers need time on the field to prove that they belong or that they don't. We ain't winning the SB this year, TO can last maybe one more year anyways so why wast the development (or lack of) of our young WR's. No point holding their development back for little gain.

Article about Demetrius Bell

Don't forget we were also running the no huddle at the time! That really helps an inexperienced player. -
NFL.com Analyst puts Bills 2nd to last...
Mark Long Beach replied to MClem06's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm a little baffled by this as well. We spent our #2 and our #3 picks on our defensive front 7 and we signed two starting free agents. Potentially 4 starters or at least players that should see significant time. Since our backfield is very strong, how do we get a _worse_ defense out of this?? I doubt we'll cut that rushing total in half. That would be amazing. (But I would enjoy seeing it!) It would take some all-worldly play out of our newcomers. -
Levi Brown - odds stacked against him
Mark Long Beach replied to Coach55's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To be fair to the op, the odds ARE stacked against him. Count how many QB's were drafted total in those slots, it's probably 5-1 or more against finding a quality QB. If you count undrafteds then I'm sure the number will be higher. The point of the OP stands. Historically there's been some success stories (of varying degrees) out of the later rounds (list of QB's provided) BUT definitely the odds are stacked against Levi being one of the those successes. Don't get me wrong, I sure hope that he is! -
What is the chance that we
Mark Long Beach replied to grammer_police's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I also agree that it's around 75% we keep all three. I personally wouldn't mind the possibility that we trade Lynch if we get a really good value for him (2nd rounder on up). I especially wouldn't mind it if we got a surprise success story such as J. Bell is more elusive than he looks. Many years during training camp/pre-season a very important RB goes down with injury on a team that doesn't have a good backup. That team becomes desperate to get a quality RB. Lynch is a quality RB and expendable/available for the right price. I'll take somebody overpaying us because their desperate. That's much better than us being desperate to get rid of him. He's useful to keep him and under a long contract. We hold the power. -
Nice, pretty reasonable post. I agree that it's a bit of a risky pick. If he proves to be a game changer like Johnson, Peterson or even Bush, we will definitely win. If he's more like <long list> than we lose the gamble. I'm more an OL kind of guy, but we have very few difference makers on offense. Last year we were defficient on both player quality AND scheme. Hopefully we will have a good scheme. Hopefully We've added RB that will improve player quality. Both of our RB's we already have were good, but neither could pick up a large chunk of yards. Especially Lynch. I love his bruising, always falling forward style. But I hate that it added up to 4 yards at best. I disagree that it's the same old Bills. We now have the scouts in charge, with the coaches or GM wannabees as secondary. I don't care what position we draft, I just want my draft to look like: 1> Hall of Famer 2> Hall of Famer 3> Pro-Bowler 4> Pro-Bowler 5> Pro-Bowler 6> Pro-Bowler 7> Pro-Bowler The closer we are to that, I don't care what their positions are. If Spiller is a Hall-of-Famer or Pro-Bowler it was a good pick.

Lonnie Harvey...surprise anchor!??????
Mark Long Beach replied to loyalbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ahhh, a goal line package. Heck ANY package that can potentially stop the other team from getting 1 yard. I sure hope so. -
That's like saying a poke in the eye is better than a kick in the nads. Although I disagree that Ellis is better. Ellis has demonstrated over time that he doesn't have it and never will. Maybin hasn't proven that yet. He may yet surprise those who doubt him.

Beerball brought up the point...

Naw, this was a follow-up to him talking trash about Levi Brown who he knows because they both went to the same college (Troy). McKelvin said to Levi that he was going to intercept some of Levi's passes but turned out to never be on the field at the same time with him. But he got two off of Brohm and was happy about it. That's all, it's a non-issue. -

From The Current Roster: What About These Guys?
Mark Long Beach replied to yungmack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Chambers was cut last year and brought back when all of our tackles got injured. He's really only showed that he's not good enough to stick around. I doubt seriously that he makes it. Chris Ellis has shown himself to be a slower, poor-man's version of Maybin. As an undersized DE the transition to OLB is his last chance to stick on the roster. If he cannot play in space then he won't make it. I didn't have high hopes for him before and he's consistently underperformed even those. Lonny Harvey is huge. This gives a lot of people who haven't seen him hope that maybe he can be a giant body in the middle that can't be moved. Unfortunately there's a lot more to football than being huge. -
Excellent ESPN Article on Ed Wang

So far Bell has been injured a couple times. Injuries are an "easy" way to crack the starting lineup. Even if he's not ready. See Bell, Merideth, et al. -
First off, Tim owes you nothing. Second, of course 150 clicks is inaccurate. But it shows the scale of importance. 150 to 1,500,000 means that 10,000 times more people read his stuff from a source other than TBD. Who cares if even ten times more people read his stuff than the 150 clicks that show up directly. It's not relevant to the overall number.

Why Buffalo didn't go after a big name QB
Mark Long Beach replied to Pete_C79's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree, Nix has been pretty honest. Not completely so in the sense that he sidesteps some questions or answers them a little ambiguously because he HAS to. It's still a competition for players with the other teams. He & Chan say they want to see what they've got as they have talent. (bottom-end IMO) but also that they'll improve the team when the see a good opportunity. I've been VERY happy to see how they've sniffed around all kinds of deals but only ended up with a few. I'm very happy with the ones that they've made and I'm happy that they haven't overpaid to get others. There was nobody available that would have saved our team. So they didn't break the bank for ones that might have offered a marginal improvement. Probably the closest would have been McNabb, but he's not a slam dunk either. But they looked at him, and found out what the cost would be. In their opinion the cost was too much and I'm okay with that. They are doing the job that they SHOULD be doing and I'm very happy with it so far. -

UDFA Antonio Coleman Video
Mark Long Beach replied to 95altima12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'll agree that the highlight video had some impressive stuff. I think that he's definitely got some football player in him. His measurables are apparently pretty crappy and he's apparently inconsistant, but you don't get to be the leader in both sacks and tackles for loss in the toughest conference by luck alone. A steal as an UFA. -
Yup. Calloway it is.
-
To me as well. Actually, I thought he was closer to a full step out of position but could make up half-a-step with his speed. (but still leaving him a half-step out) I was very impressed with Drayton last year. He was both consistent and had very good plays. Not a turnover machine but had many great denials. I'm a touch more comfortable with Drayton as the starter even if it's to help light a fire under McKelvin to beat out the wiley veteran.
