  1. I think they keep McGee. Chix said long ago that they were aiming for him to be ready at the start of the season, not through training camp. He reduced his salary during the offseason and has been the best CB on our team when he's on the field. He probably doesn't have too many years left in him. But he's certainly worth keeping if he has a few. He's better than Williams, who by all reports hasn't shown enough consistency nor enough improvement over last year. We'll see how he progresses through the year. As for Ron Brooks, he's talented, but still raw. In the middle of camp Gailey said directly that he still had a lot to learn. I don't know if Brooks can be an outside CB. I feel better with him starting on the inside. I think Ron Brooks' REAL competition is McKelvin. Leodis has been moved inside and has still struggled. I think that we keep 6 CB as they are decent ST'ers and they're small and get hurt a lot: Gilmore, Williams, McGee, Ron Brooks, Justin Rogers (KR) and either Prince OR McKelvin. Prince has made a few very nice plays, but consistency matters a lot for a DB, because a bad move can be fatal. I haven't watched him enough to know if he has any. McKelvin has great athleticism and that may buy him the roster spot over Prince, But I'm rooting for Prince honestly.
  2. The rules have changed as of last year. The 3rd QB doesn't have all those extra restrictions like they used to. e.g. 1st string QB CAN come back into the game. So the 3rd QB slot becomes a potentially useful slot, not just deadweight like before. The backup (2nd string) QB has not had any restrictions on the 1st string QB IIRC. The only restriction that I can remember is just like any player, that if they leave the field due to injury they have to wait a play before coming back in. So that's why the backup QB has sometimes still been on the field when the starter looks ready to return after being 'shaken up'. Old rules. Changed as of last year, and why we brought Brad Smith onto the team, because he CAN be brought out and do something useful. (run the wildcat)
  3. Wilson looked VERY impressive. Man I would love that kid on our team.
  4. Guess they're not worried about our running game. I think they really wanted to see which of the receivers could play well in game situations. Who could handle the bumps & hits from DBs.
  5. Even if we have a youngster who might develop into a good 4th safety, there isn't any competition for that roll. Nix doesn't want a player to win the roll by default.
  6. IMO we have 4 locks + a slash lock Johnson, Graham, Nelson, Jones We kept 5 receivers last year (+1) with all of our options CJ, Fred, Chandler, FB/HB I'm not so sure that he goes for a 6th WR this year. That means one spot open for Easley & Hagan, with Hagan right now a little in the lead. Last few cuts on this team are going to be hard this year.
  7. past results count. Lindell has been a good kicker. So do present results. If Potter is clearly better he wins the job. The coach/gm has already raised the possibility of keeping two kickers so if the results are close maybe they do keep two and have a possible transition year to see if the guy is good enough to win the job outright.
  8. How about a 2000 yard season to cap it off.
  9. I'm still partial to the WMDs.
  10. I think you meant week ONE!
  11. I thought it was all about what car you drove.
  12. It's early, but it's nice to see some of our new pickups doing well (Anderson & Tank). Regarding Tank, IIRC his instincts and quick/aggressive play were considered his strong suit. Isn't he considered a little undersized/strengthed? It'll be interesting to see how his play holds up when we get to full contact. Can he still show as well? I'm curious how he'll do in coverage. It could really limit his ability to be on the field. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited by the guy. I love intensity in my linebackers.
  13. Who knows? We haven't had that problem that's for sure. Our D has been bottom of the barrel over that timeframe. So bad that IMO it has had a profoundly negative effect on the offense. Statistically we STILL managed a middle of the road offense. So with a defense that actually gives back to the offense instead of taking away from it??? Hope Springs eternal, but there are a lot of reasons for optimism.
  14. I believe that he's about an "average" de that had an above average salary. But he was one of the better players on our team and far and away the best DE we've had for a couple years (sadly). Keeping & rewarding our better players is essential to building a better team and what Nix has us finally doing. Thank God.
  15. That's pretty awesome, btw.
  16. I liked Lee as one of our receivers. He was one of the few reasonably bright spots on a long sad decade of Bills teams. When we traded him, he was getting close to the end of his career, but likely still had the potential for 1-2 good seasons. MANY people here reasonably questioned why we would make that trade. It sure looked to make us worse in the short run. If you believe (as I do) that Nelson was talking about Lee as one of the position leaders who didn't buy what Gailey was selling, then the answer is clear as to why we traded him. It doesn't make him a bad person, a bad teammate or a bad player, just the _wrong_ player for this new team being constructed by Nix/Gailey. To me, this clears up all doubts as to why the trade went down. You want everyone in the boat rowing the same direction as hard as they can. I like Lee, I miss his great home-run strikes, but it looks clear that it was time to move on.
  17. Jeebus, I'd claim to be too poor to pay for clothes too.
  18. Not only that, he called out Troup & Carrington by names even though the questioner didn't directly use them. So it IS a little more of a calling out than was "necessary".
  19. It's just real hard to give too much credit for people not liking a draft pick the instant they heard it. Especially for players with less name recognition or who play an out-of-favor-position-of-the-day. For a kick re-read the comments about the second round draft pick of Byrd who's arguably a top 10 safety in the NFL. http://forums.twobillsdrive.com/topic/87947-round-2-pick-42-jairus-byrd-cb-oregon/ Lots of people instantly hated that pick. I don't give them much credit at all.
  20. yeah. And it matches up with the Coach's/GM's indirect words (and actions) as they shipped out Evans. As listed in a post above, there really wasn't any other receiver who could have been the head of the receiving corps.
  21. What's even more amazing is that this is in the wake of several other DUI arrests and it STILL makes no difference. I really don't have a lot of sympathy for stupidity.
  22. Is it wrong that made me laugh out loud?
  23. from my reading of what that he's charged with. It basically means he pulled a gun on someone and threatened that person with it. The VALID defense is to say that it was in self-defense. No idea what the circumstances are in this case, but unless it's clearly self defense it's pretty stupid on his part.
