Debunking the 34 is the problem myth
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to High Mark's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They're running whatever they can. I think if they ran a true 3-4 all the time with the personnel they currently have, they would get beat even worse. -
I loved the Spiller pick and was rooting for it to happen....however....one of these days the Bills will have to learn to press the "trade down button" in the draft if they've missed their key needs. The biggest disservice in the last ten years is giving up high picks to MOVE UP in the draft. IMO, trading-up is only for teams with very few needs to fill, or teams that have quite a few draft picks (see New England).

Could an O-line shift be in the works?
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to macaroni's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wang played a little RT at Virginia Tech too so I'm a little surprised he's not practicing backing up either RT or LT positions. Maybe they are thinking after the injury it would be easier to get him up to game-speed by using him on the interior? All I know is that Howard, Urbik, and Wang are big dudes; all at least 6-4 and 300+ pounds. I think a lot of stuff may be coming down during the bye-week. -
He looked okay during preseason, they should have played him with Stroud out last week. I would like to have seen him in real game action. Who knows, they might be able to get a low-round pick for him.

Trade a safety to Indy or Green Bay

Trading Stroud would be fine with me. I like him but he'll be dead by the time we contend for a wild-card. -
Five Myths That Continue To Pervade TSW
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can clearly see your points and agree with a lot you have said. The drafting point I have to disagree with in most cases. Sure, some of the players you mention can definitely play for any team in the league, but they are merely average as to where they were drafted. IMO, the Bills biggest problem is reaching for need with instead of fortifying the teams front lines. Example: spending three #1 picks on a RB in less than ten years. Spending a #1 pick on Bledsoe and then having to trade another #1 to move up to select Losman not even two years later. And I'm sorry, drafting a safety in the top ten is a wasted pick nine times out of ten. The Raiders drafted Michael Huff right before the Bills drafted Whitner and he sucks too. Regardless on how good the player is that the Bills draft, the key is that the player is good enough to retain, so that the same position doesn't have to be drafted over and over again. -
Why Rebuilding Has Taken a Decade +
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to Arkady Renko's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They did it with DB's too. Draft Antoine Winfield and then two years later draft Clements. They refuse to play Winfield and he leaves via free-agency and then Clements gets the mega-deal and leaves several years after that. That sets them up to have to draft McKelvin. All the while they don't spend quality picks on linemen who could spend a decade at the position easily. -
Ha! That's what I was thinking in the car on the way home. If they trade Lynch they'll need a another back anyway. The Bills need picks for next year and I'd start moving anyone I could at this point.

This week is gonna be ugly
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to Jimmy Spagnola's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, pretty much. A 2-1 record. Oops, there goes the undefeated season. -
Interesting topic. I have a friend who loves Ohio St. but HATES Ohio St. QB's. Pryor he's okay with. Here's his theory: 1) The Bills will never draft a QB with a top 5 pick unless the rookie salaries are changed. Too much guaranteed money---QB's always get more than position players. The Bills would draft a stud OT or even the "next" Ray Lewis before a QB. 2) The Bills have never had a supreme athletic QB, maybe Flutie would count to some. But they've tried the classic pocket-passers and guys with decent mobility. Never a guy in the Mike Vick or Pryor mold . 3) Draft a guy like Pryor (or Denard Robinson of Michigan, if he were only a junior) in the late 1st through 3rd rounds and create an offense to his talents. Think of Evans, Parrish, Spiller, Lynch and/or Jackson, and if Nelson comes around at TE. Sorry, long winded but I find myself agreeing on some points. If a top draft QB is going to get $50 million without playing a down, I can't see Ralph writing that check.

Since I complained about Troup (happy now)
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to beerme1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd rather see Carrington sub for Stroud and see what he can do. -
I like all three backs as they are all different. Spiller is going to take some time and might never be a true #1 back, no one knows yet. There's so many ways he can be used that it's almost a shame if he's just a RB. As a RB he still has some trouble with the speed of the NFL game. Jackson has great vision. Lynch will punish your a**. I'll say this, Marshawn is running wild right now. If they trade him they better get at least a #2. Otherwise it's like handing Green Bay a weapon that could put them over the top. There's a price to be paid for that.

If I were the Bills I'd wait to add a QB until the smoke clears. The 49'ers are one team rumored, which I doubt the report, because they have Alex Smith, David Carr and Troy Smith as a #3. Also Nate Davis on the practice squad. Troy Smith was Jimmy Ray's guy, now fired. Some Bills fans could get their wish in Troy Smith if he gets released. I'd take Nate Davis too---interesting prospect. Just a stream of consciousness here......

Coleman where is he? Is it just me?
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to 95altima12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Since our current LB's, including the one they're going to give a $24 million dollar extension to can't cover anyone, I'd like to see the young guys. Bye-week changes maybe? -
What you saw is what you get
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to xsoldier54's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sure, I'd like a better QB. But, what I would really like is the first two games back with someone other than Edwards starting. -
Fitzpatrick threw 2 costly INT's, yet....
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to The Poojer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There's the operative word...TRYING. He's trying to help his team win, instead of trying not to LOSE. The difference is like night and day on the field. Nuff said. -
Marcus McNeill signs 1-yr tender with SD
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to bills44's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Proves the point that holding out is the WORST decision a player can make. His salary was almost $3.2 million and now ProFootballTalk.com sez it's like $440k. Nice haircut! -
I think the Bills have drafted a bit too much for need instead of just drafting good players; they needed a pass rush so they drafted the first player they though could provide one (Maybin), needed a "big" receiver and took one of the last ones left (Hardy), etc. The problem is do their skills translate to the next level. Gailey moved on the QB situation sooner than I thought so I think in time you'll see some new faces. I think it is a delicate balance as a coach with a team like the Bills, in trying not to throw the veterans who are playing hard under the bus by giving guys playing time who might not have earned it.

Lets take another look at A.J. Hawk
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to Another Point of View's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Trade Maybin for Hawk. -
If he could play right tackle I'd think about it. He's only played left. Pass.

What are some realistic goals
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to ndirish1978's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A big "yes" to this one. I want to see Carrington, Moats, Coleman, etc. get quite a bit of game action sooner rather than later. This teams needs to find out now if they have any starting potential in a 3-4. Can they be any worse than Maybin and Kelsay as LB's? -
