  1. I hear you. I think we all have this image of the wide receiver that we really want, but I'm not sure if that totally exists in this draft. If you put a legit receiving TE on this team with Evans, Reed, Parrish, and a guy like Nelson I think we would be in business. To me it's not about one guy it's using them as a whole. I would go as far as to say that the Bills need to do what they did last year with RB's---draft a potential starter early and then use a later round pick to find someone with upside. I'm tired of all of the street free-agents that the Bills bring in at WR because it seems none of them usually stick!
  2. I would love that draft for the Bills. It has PRODUCTION written all over it. But I would be shocked if Adibi is there in the 4th.
  3. In a trade down scenario: Round 1: Antione Cason-CB Round 2: Malcolm Kelly-WR Round 2: Martin Rucker-TE
  4. ProFootballTalk thinks the Jake Long to Miami is pure BS and that the pick will be anyone EXCEPT him.
  5. I'd be shocked if Rucker is there in RD#5.
  6. My worry is that Edwards gets hurt or could struggle enough (probably unlikely) that the #2 QB has to play. I'm all for getting value for Losman, but I don't see a replacement in free-agency or on the Bills roster..........yet. Who knows what could happen between the draft and training camp. Losman could also be dealt in the first few weeks of the season. The early bye week could hellp us get a new #2 ready then. Make a serious error in judgment in depth at the QB position and we could end up with a top 3 pick next year.
  7. My first thoughts are: 1) The numbers may mean we don't have any depth at corner. 2) Is there something wrong with our defensive scheme? 3) I'd like to see what other teams numbers look like.
  8. That would probably be fair. Philly would get to keep their other picks so we might not have to give them anything else.
  9. He could become a Santana Moss/Steve Smith-type if he can stay healthy, but otherwise probably a return/slot guy at best.
  10. According to the new trade chart that is circulating (not if teams are using it though) if that trade were to happen we would get Philly's 1st and 2nd round picks for our #1 and our early 5th round. That would be pretty close. They could also give us their picks in round #1, 3, 4, and 5 for our #11. That's unlikely, but the value is again close.
  11. Some vids The announcer says "4.3 speed". Yeah, right! 68 yard TD catch against probably a 1st round corner: Punt return for TD: Highlight reel:
  12. From Tom Modrak, FWIW: "Excellent catcher who played in the slot primarily," said Modrak. "Probably going to have to make the conversion to an outside receiver. Somebody could use him in the slot, but I'm thinking he's going to make the conversion. That will mean a little bit of an adjustment for him. But he's a tough, competitive guy who's deceptively fast. He's not in that Thomas class as far as speed on the clock, however, he manages to get by people. He's a big guy whose game is excellent catcher routes, underneath, mid distance, run after the catch kind of thing."
  13. Yep. He just looks fast and that's because he's WIDE OPEN most of the time. It's all about the mismatches.
  14. I respectfully disagree with your comments. Route running is the most important thing--more than speed or size. If a receiver can't get off the line it doesn't matter how fast he is. I hate to beat a dead horse because it's been mentioned 500,000 times, but Jerry Rice never ran a 4.4----ever. Wes Welker? He's 5-9, 185. Nelson is 6-3, 217! A totally different type of receiver. Wes Welker is more like Roscoe Parrish. Here's an interesting example and a similar type of player: Kevin Walter of the Texans. Not impressed? Well, taking a look at his numbers he had 43 first downs last year---more than any Bills receiver. That's more important to me than a lot of other stats because we need a guy who can get open, move the chains, and be a red zone target. We have a #1 receiver and a lot of #3 or 4's. Unfortunately we don't have a crystal ball, but there's a lot of scouts who seem to think Nelson is going to be more productive and consistent than a lot of the receivers that will probably be picked ahead of him. Does that mean we should draft Nelson? No, unless he's a great value where we pick. 2nd round isn't too high, IMHO, and especially if we could pick up another 2nd it would be a home run.
  15. Thanks for the NFL/Kirwan link, this is a great thread. Please stop with the Owen Schmitt hype though. A FB is not worth drafting for this team as our offense like many in today's NFL doesn't key on one.
  16. I do. There isn't a "shutdown" corner on the Bills roster. Last year the Bills were picking up guys off the street in the off/pre-season and during the year trying to fill injury holes. It was like a revolving door in the secondary. Sure, a lot of that was because of injury but a lot of that was because the Bills secondary was exposed.
  17. Both signed in 2007. Schobel: 7 years-$50.5 million Kelsay: 4 years-$23 million No the Bills aren't getting enough production out of either---at least last year. But, I can't understand why we would want to add another top salary to that position, RIGHT NOW when they're other glaring needs. The #11 pick last year (Patrick Willis) got almost $17 million.
  18. Where did this Harvey guy come from all of a sudden? That would be a shi**y pick. We already have fifty trillion dollars invested in DE's so that would be total overkill. I would like to see the Bills stay right where they are at #11 or trade down a few spots. If they could get an extra pick or two in the 2nd or 3rd rounds I think there's enough talent at WR, TE, and CB in the draft that the Bills could really clean up!
  19. Kelly has to work out and if he runs a poor time (like 4.6 or 4.7) there's no way he'll be selected that high. I think #11 is too high for any of the receivers anyway. If we could move down to #13-#17 I wouldn't care who we selected because we would get added value.
  20. It would have to be a high pick (2nd or high 3rd) for me to want to move Losman. I don't see a Plan B as to who can back up Edwards, and it wouldn't shock me if something weird were to happen and Losman starts with the Bills again if he stays.
  21. He's a returner and slot guy at best---and could be a great one. Not a #1 receiver in the NFL--probably a great #3.
  22. Yes, he can play DE and DT and was used that way.
  23. That's not what I'm saying. What I implied is that getting a WR at #11 doesn't mean the Bills are all set. Trent Edwards needs help immediately if he is going to progress. If the scouts believe this isn't a stellar class (which is what I keep hearing) or if there is a lot of risk in the top picks, I'd rather see the Bills trade down and get the same player or wait until the 2nd round. If the Bills can get the production that Calvin Johnson had last year (48-756 yds-4TD) out of the #11 pick I'd be totally happy. What I'm worried about is picking a WR high and not getting immediate return. I also understand that the Bills don't need a #1 receiver, but you don't spend practically a top 10 pick on a guy who will always be a #2 or #3. Especially with Evans in the last year of a contract presently. Last years draft might be an indication of what happens this year, but look at last years picks. 1) Calvin Johnson-see above 2) Ted Ginn Jr.-picked way too high 3) Dwayne Bowe-had a great season, better numbers than Calvin (wasn't injured) 4) Robert Meachem-didn't play 5) Craig Davis-188 yards and 1TD 6) Anthony Gonzalez-576 yards, no TD's until week 14 There's more here: http://insider.espn.go.com/nfldraft/draft/...raftyear%3D2007 Maybe my argument is really flawed but the word is that there is no Calvin Johnson in this years draft. I like Malcolm Kelly, but I would like him even more if we could get him at #15 and pick up another pick.
  24. Exactly. Look back even at least year at the first two rounds of WR's (which was regarded as a better class), there's barely any impact. We need at least one WR in this draft, but not at #11.
  25. The problem I see with that mock draft is that there's no way the QB Ryan goes to the Dolphins. Parcells isn't going to pay a guy like that 30+ million guaranteed. I heard an interesting scenario today---if Miami keeps the #1 pick is Ghoulston actually the safest and best pick for them? Could be.
