Lazy Buffalo journalism
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to bananathumb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just heard on WGR AP reporter John Warow (sp?) says he's driven by Peters' house several times and a red pickup truck with Texas plates has been in the driveway but it hasn't moved. So someone is staking him out. -
Bell is a MUST regardless of Peters. Costanzo=not sure. I like Buggs too even if he's on the PS. I'll take Copeland Bryan over Jason Jefferson hands down. I know they play different positions, but Jefferson doesn't do much for me. And I don't think Copeland Bryan is PS eligible---if he is I say he doesn't make it through waivers.

I made a few changes in red and still don't have a 53 man roster. I think I'm at 52 and that's counting Peters. 1) Bell is definitely making the 53 man roster at this point. There's NO WAY he makes it through waivers and onto the practice squad. He's playing too well. 2) Steve Johnson is less of a worry about making it onto the practice squad, but I think I'd keep him around to since Parrish and Reed seem to be injury prone because of their size and Hardy is having issues with his hammy. 3) There's no way they keep seven or eight linebackers. I like Buggs too--maybe more than Spragen and Costanzo. 4) I think they need to add a TE or depth at DE/DT. 5) I think Hamdan is a possible cut. I'm not sure they keep three---some teams don't.

Our group of TE's is kind of a mess. I wish the Bills had drafted a TE earlier in the draft and signed at least a grade B free-agent this past year. Geez.

NFL Players-Financial Scam Story
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to DwightSchrute's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great headline! http://www.tmz.com/2008/08/26/crappy-quart...ir-dollarsback/ -
He's becoming a very good special teams player but I'm not sure he can cover anyone as a safety. It looks like he's improved his tackling technique too.

My problem with this discussion is that it is going to end up as a disaster for the Bills. Losman is a lot better than some of the fodder around the NFL (David Carr, Joey Harrington, the McCown brothers, etc) but no matter how he plays he won't be here next year. They should have had a veteran presence here in the offseason and prepared to get SOMETHING for Losman in a trade. It's clear that he's not Jauron's type of QB (too risky). I guarantee some QB will go down with an injury and we could get at least a #4 or #5 for him.

Training camp today?

Alas, I didn't have the satellite radio in the car. -
Training camp today?
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to hit and marshawn's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hmmm. Paul Hamilton was just on WGR and Mike Schopp asked "How does Trent Edwards look?" His response: "Not Good". I guess he tried to hit Hardy on a pass in the red-zone that was "woefully underthrown" and intercepted and taken the distance for a TD by Terrence McGee. -
I love this time of year and at the same time HATE IT! Training camp=men in shorts. Reeelaaaaax.

Peters may be willing to sit all season
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to scribo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Peters holds out during the regular season he's the dumbest man on the planet. History has shown that Bills players that embrace the team concept and show up in the off-season get rewarded for it. Learn from that lesson. If it comes to that, if I were the Bills I wouldn't do anything until next off-season. I could see him coming in after training camp is over and promptly getting hurt. -
Hester already caved
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to elegantelliotoffen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
WGR was reporting this afternoon that an extension for Lee Evans could happen ASAP. If so, Peters loses more leverage. -
They were playing sound bites from Bills COO Russ Brandon during the 5pm hour today. Sounds like the Bills are going to play hard-ball with Peters. They claim they haven't seen or heard from him since shortly after the season ended. Brandon sounded kinda pissed and said they already "took care" of Peters two years ago. Sounds like they would have been willing to discuss an extension but he said they can't even think about it because he's been a no-show. He has until Midnight tonight to report.

Of the actual running backs (Marshawn Lynch, Fred Jackson, Dwayne Wright, Xavier Omon, and Bruce Hall) I'm going to go out on a limb and say subtract two of those players and add one somewhere along the way. Either someone gets put on the practice squad or the Bills make a play for a versatile veteran. I like the potential and talent of the group we have, but there's very little experience there. Keep an eye out over the next couple of weeks for a signing in time for training camp.

Interesting JP mention on Sirius
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to Heitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I heard it. That was ex-QB Tim Hasselbeck who said that. I always was lead to believe when Losman was the starter that he was always at the stadium late and in the off-season working and watching film. Maybe they were talking about his rookie season? -
I heard a rumor about someone at WGR looking for another job and it wasn't Jeremy. I'm not tellin' because I'm not sure I heard what I heard correctly.

It's a relevant topic when it seems most of the Steelers "Steel Curtain" linemen are now dead.

Peters isn't going to hold out long-term. No player will. Losing six-figure game checks plus the fines don't make it worth it. I do find it very interesting that his agent hasn't voiced to the public that his contract is an issue. I guess it's classier than an agent like Drew Rosenhaus holding press conferences every five minutes. Here's the compromise I would make: Since he has three years left on his second NFL contract and is coming off a serious injury. If he reports to OTA's and plays out 2008 I re-do the deal next off-season. I would want to make sure that injury isn't a liability. I agree that he is underpaid on the Bills line and as an NFL left tackle. But two years into a five year deal is pretty bogus to hold out for a new contract.

Sounds like the DA has nothing on Lynch
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to VOR's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Won't happen. I can see the headline now: "The NFL against the Constitution". I don't condone this behavior (hit-and-run) but everyone has a right not to incriminate themselves. The DA is on a fishing expedition trying to find any shred of evidence and now he's trying to get whoever was in the car to squeal. And how do we know there were Bills players in the car? I haven't seen that mentioned. -
I believe this to be mostly true as well, which is why I hope our next president will somehow engage the Iranians and give them something to think about. Constantly mentioning that we might bomb them back to the stone age probably isn't going to solve many differences.

If Xavier's Omon's moves transfer to NFL ...
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You stole my thunder with that post. When I saw the thread topic I immediately thought of Wright. The transition to the NFL is tougher on some guys and I think it was a learning experience for Dwayne Wright. He and Omon will have a lot to prove to stick on a team with Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson. -
Those guys are all good players too. They can play other positions until Jeff Saturday retires. I did indeed hear Bill Polian say that Pollack was going to move right in at guard for the time being.
