An affordable option. I'd be all over that if I were the Bills.

Seriously.... Whos worth our 11th pick?
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to The_Dude's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think its those four guys. They could all help the Bills and you could consider all of them to be at a "need" position. If all of those guys are on the board at #11 (highly doubtful) I would be SHOCKED if the Bills selected Pettigrew. Too many people have Pettigrew pegged to Buffalo which makes sense then that we won't pick him. Bills logic. If three of four are gone I'd trade down and try to pick up the scraps. A HIGHLY unlikely scenario but I will throw it out there to stir the pot. It won't be Stafford, but what if the QB Sanchez were still there at #11 and three out of four of the guys mentioned above are gone? I know, I know another California QB. It would make some sense though, Edwards had an un-even season, Losman is gone, and I'm sorry Hamdan is a #3 at best. -
Marvin Philip
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to Wilson from Gamehendge's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good points. Good to see the Bills be a bit proactive since we may lose both of our current centers. At best we can hope for him to stick around as a backup or practice squad. Coaching is another good point. I would bring in Joe DeLamielleure as a consultant. I love listening to him talk about lineman as it seems he can spot potential just by looking at someone. -
What Scouts Inc says about the top 2 TEs
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think any TE at #11 is a bit of a reach. Or maybe "reach" is the wrong word, "risky" is the word I'm looking for. The TE position seems to be worse than the WR position for trying to predict who will succeed (see Vernon Davis as the #6 pick). I'd feel better about picking Pettigrew if we could get some value while doing it; that is, trading down from 11 to the 13-16 area and picking up another pick. That could be the leverage needed to pick up a top center, LB or DE late in round one or earlier than our existing #2. -
DE is Weak in FA, so go DE
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think the Bills know how to trade down. They need one of those "easy buttons" like on the Staples TV commercials. -
And of course I threw out the letter with the rate changes without reading it. How bad is it? Hard to tell from the article in the paper.

No offense to Fox announcers

The color guy is Tim Ryan who works for Sirius NFL Radio. -
I'd go after Chris Simms on a short term deal. I had forgotten that he signed with Tennessee for a year and that they worked him back into shape.

I think this is actually one of the major issues facing this team. Good post indeed. I don't think the Bills can afford to draft another QB high (meaning first three rounds). However, I would like to see them develop another QB besides Edwards for the mid-term (over 2-4 years). It would be nice for them to find another gem instead of continually bringing in undrafted free-agent QB's for traning camp fodder. I'm not saying the Bills should explore this, but it is my prediction that Derek Anderson of the Browns will become next years Chad Pennington. If I'm the Lions or Jets, maybe even the Bears I make that trade.

Mangini out as Jets coach.
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to billieve420's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I listened to the Jets press conference and a reporter asked Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum, and I am paraphrasing, "You are the one that signed Favre and that was a disaster, why is Eric Mangini the scapegoat?" The NY media, gotta love em'! Having said that I wouldn't touch Mangini. I would be interested in Jets OC Brian Schottenheimer in some capacity though. Not sure he's ready to be a HC yet. -
what would you rather see the bills draft
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to Drew026's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1st pick has to be an impact player. Centers usually aren't drafted that high and neither are TE's. The Bills could probably use both but a 2nd round pick would probably suffice. I'd say the position that could make the most impact for 2009 would be a LB or someone to help the pass rush at DE or DT that would displace one of our current slackers...um....I mean starters. -
I really put it on Jauron as well, but the OL doesn't play or practice tough. Many other teams do more with less.

Let's face it, our personnel sucks
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to DDD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've thought about this question a lot over the last few weeks, heck over the last ten years. The Bills always have SOME talent, but not ENOUGH talent. They don't have enough playmakers. Example, the WR's other than Evans don't stretch the field and scare any team. Think of what would happen if Evans was injured, who would start as the #1 receiver? THE BILLS DON'T HAVE ANYONE!!!!!!! The TE's are probably worse. Royal drops balls when he is wide open, and the rest on the roster tend to be smaller H-Back types. The guys the brought in on the offseason were laughable (Teyo Johnson and Courtney Anderson anyone?). We don't have a #1 TE on the roster either, period. In short, the Bills always have 3/4 of a roster, the rest of the players are cheap filler-material. This one's on Ralph. -
Joe D. should be scouting O-lineman. I've heard him make some interesting observations about players in the league, especially younger ones--draft picks, and he's usually right.

Jauron DID sign the Bills 3 year

That's my theory. Otherwise, why is it a secret? -
Problem with Bills=Dick Jauron
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to Poeticlaw's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I told friends 4-0 and 5-1 is great but the six games in the division are the MOST important. The AFC is up for grabs (especially the East) and I think we'll have to go 3-0 the rest of the way against the division to have a shot with the tie breakers involved. The SD and Jax wins will help but Denver might be a must-win as well. -
That's just it. The Bills have $$$ and they didn't use it. It carries over to many positions but the one that gets me is WR. My #1 use of that $$$ would have been to get a #2 receiver for THIS YEAR, and yes, even though we drafted Hardy. They finally used Parrish today to take over Reed's role, but Evans went M.I.A. for most of the game. Imagine if you will what would happen if Evans was injured and while Reed continued to be out. Who are your starting receivers? Hardy and Parrish probably with Steve Johnson as third. Yikes. If we don't scare anyone now, we'd get zero respect with that lineup.

Is it the conditioning program?
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to Catholic Guilt's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There's injuries all over the league, not just the Bills. The QB and RB positions have taken a BIG hit this year. -
Fins release WR Derek Hagan
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to DanInSouthBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That would be awesome. Have the Fins actually watched him play? Two words---burnt toast. -
Fins release WR Derek Hagan
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to DanInSouthBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They say it's a numbers game---he only has three catches. Ernest Wilford has also been inactive quite a few games for the Fins. Others have stepped up and the current staff didn't draft him.
