  1. We've been out of town lately, so yesterday we had to get some groceries. Problem being that the Richmond VA area also got a foot of snow. So while Richmond is in full winter freak mode, we're out driving to the store. Stopped at at red light, and just happened to see some fool driving too fast, and now skidding right towards us. He was behind us, traveling the same direction, and there was just enough room for me to move forward, and watch him spin past our left rear corner. No blood, no foul, I guess?
  2. May he have a complete recovery, and be back 120% next season.
  3. I worked with a guy, 20+ years ago, maybe 20 years older than me, at the time, who told me that his Dad took him to Gettysburg when he was a kid, where he met some Civil War vets. That's a long time ago but sadly they do all eventually pass away, and that's where we now stand with WWII.
  4. It's been a couple of years but I do remember Canada Customs asking not if we had gun(s), but if we owned them? WTF do they care what I own, as long as I'm not bringing it to Canada? Of course, you have to bite your lip and say noting BUT I still consider it very bad form from our "neighbors to the North."
  5. Fair enough BUT from a BILLS historical standpoint we can't put too much trust in the draft.
  6. I remember when I took my Dispatch oral. The guy gave me a Denver Stapleton to Chicago Midway flight plan to prepare. 727, many inop systems, AND a W departure, which never happens because that takes you directly over the front range of the Rockies. So long story short, I had to leave 45 people off. They guy asked me why I didn't have the items resolved, and I told him that my company would normally defer as much as possible, so that was the mode that I operated in. He gave me a harrumph, but I got the license that day. So I made no assumption about the APU on my flight.
  7. This is another "no win" situation. No matter what we do, we'll be seen as playing for draft position. That's OK except our draft success record is so uneven that we can't look to the draft to solve all our problems. So, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
  8. It would have been overturned if it was a Bills play.
  9. I've never seen an exact equation that defines age with this or that trait. We're all different. You can drive yourself crazy trying to make that connection. Accept whatever is bothering you and do your best to make the situation(s) better. I'm over 70 and can't remember much about my "late 30's," but I don't let that bother me. Oh yeah, just remembered that we sucked than too!
  10. That would make sense IF we had a history of making fantastic draft picks. So far, we're very uneven in that department..
  11. The USS Arizona site was closed last May but is "planned" to re-open in March 2019. That's great news because initially, they didn't know if it could be repaired, or would ever re-open.
  12. She could be hard to identify at Walmart.
  13. Growing up in BUF or WNY gotta be White Christmas. Saw him with Frank & Sammy, Seattle 1988. Dean was pretty much wasted, but Frank was good and Sammy stole the show.
  14. Was that when the British or the French were there?
  15. Exactly, divert from a point on an ETOPS route.
  16. We had a 3 hr delay Dulles-Frankfurt. 777, Had to change a relay on one of the generators. Had to deplane, so they could power down the plane. The blessing was, that it happened on the ground at Dulles. They had the part(s) and the mechanics. If it happened in flight, no telling where we would have had to land to get it changed? December in N Canada or Iceland is not something I would want to experience.
  17. Just returned from Frankfurt, yesterday. Only travel to Europe 1x a year. Filled out the Customs Dec on the plane, and again, it was neither asked for, nor collected. The Passport person, took our pictures? Don't know why, but know better than to ask. Also, after claiming our checked bags, Customs always had a final bottle neck check, when leaving the Customs hall/claim area, yesterday nothing. That's similar to the way it's done in Europe, but never seen here? We arrived at Washington Dulles. so that's the only location I can comment on. Also, landed about 1450, and almost no wait to clear Passport control? Very nice surprise!.
  18. Dogs are too genuine to blow $50 on a vest, unless it was legit.
  19. Used to actually like Olbermann, before he went Bat Guano crazy!
  20. Gotta be my Lionel Train. Added to it every year, and have quite a large layout now. They do take up a lot of room but; you can learn a lot about AC current, insulators, AC phasing etc. Things that are not taught enough today. Bought my wife an LGB. German train, larger than Lionel but runs on a DC transformer. Electric transformer, not what most of today's kids would understand. No sparks, no rug burn holes, and runs cool and reliably without much supervision.
  21. The Bishops Wife. From 1947. All the "old" "English" actors. David Niven, Cary Grant, Loretta Young, Elsa Lanchester. Love to watch the "old" actors when they were very early in their careers.
  22. Yes, maps do work, assumong they are current. GPS is the gift that keeps on giving with respect to "update" features that cost $$ Chances are, the dumass on the RR track, didn't have a "current" update. Are there any "new" RR tracks around? See dumass!
  23. People rely on GPS way too much. If they ever turn the satellite off, we'd be a lost nation of morons.
