  1. Very sorry for your loss. When my Mom passed, I was in Houston and she was in Buffalo. Despite my best efforts, i couldn't make it back to be with her when she died. That's a hurt that has been with me for a long time. I'm sure we both know that I did my best, but it was still very difficult.
  2. My point is simply unfair/uneven reporting of abuse. While you may not use a lower standard, the fact that abuse often goes unnoticed unless/until it involves a specific area of our society, makes it proportionately unfair. A person's religious preference is a personal choice and it often only is what the individual chooses to make it. I'm not aware of any forced attendance but often people need to face up to what may be perceived as unpleasant aspects of their own lives in order to be able to make positive change.
  3. OK. since you still live in WNY, you are closer to that situation than I am. But generally, if ALL abuse was reported, across society, the Catholic aspect would disappear.
  4. This is a society problem, not an individual religion problem. If the Public Schools, Religious affiliated schools outside the Catholic area, and dare I say Muslims were investigated to the same levels, you would see similar results. Recently the Buffalo News ran a story about alleged abuse in the local Boy Scouts. The troop had some sort of church affiliation, but it apparently was not a Catholic church, so no other details were provided. Closing the seminary is a no brainer. It was losing $500K a year. Unsustainable by any standard.
  5. Are their vacant seat tarps/covers measured in metric, so they fit the European seats?
  6. Don't know because I'll have already lost my mind from making too many "mental bets" that this would ever happen.
  7. Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son! Dean Wormer
  8. My Grandmother, lived in Buffalo her whole life. She lived to be 103. Her eyesight was failing but she used to leave her radio nailed to WBEN. Rush is on WBEN. My Grandmother was a Roosevelt Dem. When I reminded her that Rush was a Republican, she told me; "OH NO. he's a conservative!!" Never argue with Gram! I have heard him refer to his "formerly nicotine stained fingers" now maybe it's caught up with him. Have to wish him the best, as I would try to do for anyone else. I know he can afford the best of care, and that's a blessing for him.
  9. Gotta be better than those do nothing wind turbines. Did the NY Thruway ever get their turbines running?
  10. In Super Bowl traffic!
  11. Wings AND coffee breaks, Let's Go Buffalo!
  12. Best of luck with this. When we lived in Seattle, went on a trip, and came back to discover mice had chewed on the engine wires on my wife's car, that was left in the garage. We had maybe 4 cats, at the time, and their litter boxes were all in the garage. Didn't mean anything! Had to replace the engine wiring harness. It was cheaper to do that than track down all the broken wires.
  13. You have something against Bowling?
  14. My chiropractor makes a lot of money off my kinks.
  15. Back in the Rockpile days, most AFL teams actually had a band AND cheerleaders. The Redskins and Baltimore Colts actually had marching bands, like college.
  16. Very sad! For whatever reason, he thought he was recovering. RIP!
  17. Wasn't Lee a slave owner?? Sorry, I live in Virginia.
  18. The fewest holding penalties had nothing to do with coaching. The fix was in!
  19. Never had anything that hi-tech. Our science teachers had meter sticks, way before metrics were in style. Probably just as effective.
  20. It's interesting, and maybe very modern day too. Have to say, born & raised in Buffalo, moved to N VA, then Seattle, then Chicago, then Houston, then back to Seattle then back to Virginia. Can't really say I found any favs. Made it thru a CAT V hurricane in Houston in 83, then a CAT III in Virginia in 2003. Couple of earthquakes and a volcanic eruption while in Seattle. Obviously we all know about the weather stories in Buffalo. Texas and Washington did not have state income tax but they found a whole list of ways to make up for that, so no real advantage there. All things considered, nothing really stands out as a favorite state.
  21. Too big for business class but "moved to economy?" WTF kind of measurements did they take? UPS or FedEX would be happy to take them. Not too big to stick an airbill on.
  22. Is that what they look like without those face masks?
