Freight is shipped/charged by weight & size. They weigh it and then measure it and whichever rate is the highest is what you pay.
Is this assembled, or in pieces? Is it packaged/boxed? There could be so many variables here that you may be looking at a 1500 mile road trip.
If you have any connections with any antique or furniture stores, ask them how to do it. They are always sending/receiving odd size large pieces and know who/how to contact shippers.
I went to 68. Would have left sooner but the contents of my paycheck shifted due to my employer's bankruptcy! 35 years!!
I was blessed and found another job and worked there for another 12 years. .
Seriously, I worked with a lot of people who either didn't live to retire or died very shortly after. Been retired for 4+ years, and it's been good.
Used to go to the Aud on Friday nights, late 50's, to watch wrestling. Chuck Healy was the announcer. Ilio Depaolo, Bo Bo Brazil, etc. There was usually a midget match too. It was filmed on Fridays and re-run on WBEN on Saturday.
I'd stay on US15. US15 runs just W of Dulles Airport. Just stay on US15 S into Virginia to US17 E, to I-95 S. US15 can be congested between Point of Rocks MD and the S side of Leesburg VA. Once you pass Leesburg, it moves OK. That keeps you away from the Beltway. I-95 is slow N of Fredericksburg VA till you get across the Rappahannock river because they're widening I-95 and widening the bridge.
There's a phone ap called Merlin. I think it's free. It's often better than most books. Even has the bird sounds for each one. My wife puts the bird sounds on to drive the cat crazy!
Right now the freakin crouws are cleaning me out.
Used to spend summers at Tupper Lake. Have not been up there in almost 30 years. Saranac was only about 25 miles and Lake Placid a bit beyond that. It's a very nice area but seemed very economically depressed.
It was a 7-8 hr drive from Buffalo. Very boring, for a kid. Would have loved to have seen even one deer. Nothing!! Now, in Virginia the fuggers are everywhere.
