Joe Ortis Ralph Kalls Frank Row Terry Tims Luther Towns Moris Oates Ralph Pots Marcus Red Omar Etimeo I just made these names up in about 30 seconds. The difference between them and the names cut is none. Both are no-names with no value.

You are assuming Nall is #2. 9th best salary for a #2 is justified. All the scoring starts under center...unless D or special teams are incredible. I have no beef with paying my QB, 1 & 2 -- top money. Like the NHL, you have to have a solid backup.

Totally agree. If I am a GM in this league, I start building the OL right off the bat. Mike Williams was one players, beyond him, they added Jonas Jennings, but he was rather injury prone and average. They added Teague too. Then they added about 10 other spare part scubs who never panned out. Poor coaching added to the problem along with an average RB and a green QB and no chipping line blocking by the TEs. Bills are one of the only teams without a drafted OL on their starting roster. Look at the champ teams, they all have drafted timber on the line...

Dib, Dante looked great, what are you talking about? Carolina is tough too. Great D. But Dante was solid, he is will put up some solid numbers. And Saban will get a great deal out of him. his knee is healed, did you see that 15 yard run? HOLY COW!

Reed's value is no better than a 5th rounder. What are you talking about?

In TD's defense, he was building a team to compete right away. He was patching up things. Sure, he did a bruttal job, but he had pressure to have guys who could score poitns and get to the QB and coaches who could make that happen. He micromanagaed the club to death. LEvy has a 3 yr plan and there is ZERO pressure. DJ has a bunch of no-body kids to mould and roundoff. THis is easy till expectations come in the years to come here and we shell out big money for certain guys and the fans start to cry...

Oh man, Matt Leinart looked good too
ROSCOE P. COE TRAIN replied to zow2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He is boom or bust. They say his arm strenght is weak. But they said that about Peyton Manning. Leinart is a leader, thats what I like about him. Jim Kelly #12 had raw skills, but he also was a leader. He called out the slackers and made guys accountable (ala the "bickering bills"). He took the "bull by horns." Talent on team has to have leaders and big time players from big time programs to lead... -

DJ is educated and has experience. He is solid. IMO, he was brought in to help a young team with structure, organization, unity, professionalism, etc. He is not the long term solution, but a 2 yr guy who will form a good core for a more inovative coach to carry into the playoffs with once the talent is upgraded and the younger players are ready. Levy serves the same purpose. DJ's job is to get this club to %500 football and then leave town and let another coach lead us ahead. -
It's Official, Drew is out of Dallas, (Henson)

Remember how badly some of hounds on this site wanted Henson as our QB!?!? Looking back, I think I wanted him too. But damn, he sucks. Great athlete ... -
Is Marv Sick? Is the Ralph Being Phased Out?
ROSCOE P. COE TRAIN replied to The Dean's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"Hurry up!! Last Chance to Get 20% KMARTS clothing hangers!" This does not mean that KMART is closing down. It means that the hangers will only be on sale for a limited time and maybe never again. This is called non-literal reading. One reviews the text and the context of it. Based on this, they can judge and balance whether certain text is literal or figurtive. -
I think KH is a great backup. We keep him. Low salary -- high reward if JP goes down. THis is a rebuilding year, the young guys will be tested. This is JP's team to loose. He had a year of tutoring with Wyche, comes from a good throwing school in Tulane and has all the tools. Like Kyle Boller -- in BAlt. -- the " world is his oyster." Can he create time to throw? Will the line hold up and can Willis help in pass protection? Will Royal chip in for protection? Will the defense and special teams give the kid some good field position? If Folwer a bell cow on the line any QB needs? Can they sustain drives with the running game? Can they stay injury free? These questions are the difference between 8-8 and 4-12 IMO.

Willis McGahee, look out!
ROSCOE P. COE TRAIN replied to RJOSEPH's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Drew, I mean Mr. Rosehaus, Willis's game speeed is the question. How many runs over 35 yards does he have? His abilty to cut back and gain teh edge is suspect. With the lose of weight, will he change that perception? Is the line better? Are there 8 guys in the box? -
Chris Henry is wicked. They have the best recievers in the league --- with out a doubt. And Kelly Washington is coming around... They got a GREAT OL and two excellent backs. CArson is 2nd to only PEyton. I like this team to win the AFC.

You got 16K posts? Geez, you been busy Cincy! Carson Palmer good for 30 TDs this season?
-
I read the comments on the link and have no idea why you think those are cocky and over-the-top. They seem completly fine and humble and all that stuff. I like the guys confidance and swagger. When we play Chad Johnson and those types, I want a field general who dominates and gives the D an identity. For a decade the defense has been vanilla with little emotion or passion. This kid is the frist step to giving us some bite.

"Yawn" ... "Doom and Gloom" ... "You are an idtiot!" ... Sir, these are the responses you are about get from the regulars here. To answer, no. I think his weight loss will help him gain the hole and the 2nd layer of defenses. His extra size gave him confidance with his repaired knee to take on contact. Now, 3yrs removed from the injury, he is focused on speed and slashing and letting the knee be tested all out with out 20 pounds of muscle up top to pad it.

erry Rice on Bills receivers
ROSCOE P. COE TRAIN replied to tennesseeboy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A sober reality is that OPS, but with a little luck with late picks (ie, Williamson) and some solid drafting, we could turn it around. Like I have said before, this is a 3yr plan. Marv drafted 3 guys that should be college seniors next month for value and they will blossom by next season after a year of training. DJ is here for a few years to disipline the youth and then he leaves and they make a run for the Bowl with what team Marv can assemble. Up the middle of the field is looking better already. Now the OL needs to come around and JP. THe Defense has lots of tool and potential and highpicks. Someone has to start standing out: Crowell - Williams - Denney - Whitner - King... -
erry Rice on Bills receivers
ROSCOE P. COE TRAIN replied to tennesseeboy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hear ya. I think he was a good 2nd guy too. But I was saying that you have to factor in that he has not the same player he once was. He has not gotten any better. He is has some nicks now and the eye thing, etc. Indeed, he will be a #2, adn that is what they want him for. But with QB and not OL and evans not even bieng a known legit #1 -- he is a HUGE question mark. AND that is why jerry rice made his comments which i think have merit about our corps. -
erry Rice on Bills receivers

Fair question re: Price. And I never said the Bills had the WORST talent, I said they almost had the worst talent (San Fran is worse off). The starting point with any receiver, which most don't consider is weather they are a starting #1 guy or a backup. The difference looms large. The #1 reciever (take moulds for instance) sees rolling coverage all gamea and double and even tripple teaming. There is a jam, man-to- man, flats coverage underneath, and then a safety over the top ever single play for the #1 guy. If you are the #2 guy, you don't see any of this. 2nd WRs like Reggie Wayne and in the past -- Alvin Harper (amongst many other over the years) have been able to work to pockets of space -- as they only have to beat one defender most plays. Price in BUffalo did this. This is a fact. Moulds drew the coverage. In atlanta, Price proved he could not be a #1. He was given EVERY opportunity to be that guy. He faltered. I, and I have heard others comment on this, think that Price is not a god route runner. All these guys can run a 4.5, 4.6 -- 40 etc, but hardly any can route run and make timing catches on outs and over the middle balls. Ass to that, that some are scared to cross the middle. Price runs great straight lines. He is known for that. In space he uses his speed. BUt with guys on him and in traffic, he concentration, does not adjust to routes when the play breaks down, hand-eye and footwork is suspect. ANd his dedication and offseason training have always been suspect. That is a overall NFL thought on the guy. His best days in BUffalo prove that he runs great posts and long patterns when he has a #1 WR to take the heat off him. TO be fair, Price is not a west coast Mora type Wr. He is a long pattern runner who likes the long ball. And Vick is hard to play for, as he improvises a great deal. But he still stunk and he did not paly well with Bledsoe in a simple offense. He will be servicable behind Evans. I never said he would not. But he aint the answer IMO. We are looking at a 550 yard 3 TD season. NOt bad... -
erry Rice on Bills receivers
ROSCOE P. COE TRAIN replied to tennesseeboy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed, as a whole the Pats WRs have had a better WR corps b/k of the OL, Brady, coaching, and TEs. But still, I haev seen Brown and Branch, and even Givens play. To me, they are / were top players at their position. At this stage, no one at the Bills WR position has stuck me as having those types of moves, hands, speed, etc. We have seen Reed. Parrish is a question mark. Price was a flash in the pan. Evans looks promising. All these guys have never been a #1 WR -- like Branch and Brown have. Plus, Price was a #1 in Atlanta and was laughed out of the city. He was pathetic and could not get open b/k he can only run a skinny post and no other route. That is a league wide fact. But how can we compare question marks with guys who are all pro types and the Super Bowl MVP? I don't see that... -

ROSCOE P. COE TRAIN replied to tennesseeboy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What are you talking about? Watson and Graham are two of the best TEs in the league at BLOCKING and at catching. Yeah, no 45 yard bombs will be seen, but they are clutch and always play well and get off the line and grab balls. For a TE, for me, blocking is %50 of the job along with catching. YOU are generalizing a little much for me. (i.e., "Almost all of their TD catches seem to be terrific play action fakes by Brady"). But to get back to another post of yours, AT THIS juncture, the Bills receivers have not shown to be as good as the Pats. Again, Troy Brown was a premier WR. Deon Branch is NOT GOOD, he is GREAT. That is a fact. YOU are right that Price had that one good season. But he showed he could not BE A #1 int eh league in atlanta. He is a 2nd or 3rd guy, ALVIN HARPER! Moudls carried him . Branch and Brown have been double teamed and tripple teamed. THey are #1 guys. Reed and Parrish have shown nothing thus far. Evans looks good. But all in all, the Pats guy have done it already, the Bills guys have not. Potential can only get you so far in this context. I dont think you have a very solid arguement...
