Donahoe is the Son of Satan

Screech is dead again???? I have it on good authority that Donahoe was once seen picking up chicks with Fabio... -

No, the CONSTITUTION is the highest authority. It's a secular justice system, not a religious one. If you want to discuss whether or not God is the highest authority in the universe...frankly, that's metaphysics, not law. And Delay's context in that was that any Justice who refused to recognize God as the highest judicial authority in the country should be impeached and removed from the bench...which is frankly a violation of the First Amendment. What's more, he didn't "say" so...it was the text of a bill he's sponsoring. The context was that Delay was bitching and creebing about the Supreme Court overturning laws and decisions (specifically, I think it was the Terry Schiavo circus that prompted it) rather than rubber-stamping them (it was in the same bill mentioned above). He was whining that the courts don't implement "the will of the people" and wants to basically slap them down so that they'll toe whatever line Congress establishes for them. Delay conveniently (or ignorantly) forgets that it's the court's job to protect and defend the Constitution, not follow the will of the people. Following the will of the people is Congress' job...but he'd prefer to spend his time shredding Constitutional protections. Of course, it's technically Delay's job to protect the Constitution too...he did, after all, take an oath to do so. But he seems more interested in theocratic oligarchy than representative democracy to bother... -
And in addition to what Campy said...if it's a different case, it's not double jeopardy. If it were the SAME case, it would be...but different cases are different (duh); just because you're tried for one doesn't preclude being tried for the other. If that were the case, it would mean that Michael Jackson could never be tried again for any other molestation case after he's found innocent in this one.

Frist, I'll let pass for now. Delay...gee, you mean "God is the highest authority in the justice system" and "The Supreme Court has no right to issue findings on the law" isn't enough? -

With the attention span of the average American, they could just all go away four or five times by then. -

I have no problem with the idea of respecting your kids. But I don't see that as conflicting in any way with the idea of punishing them. Not verbatim...but if you're seen (or known) to spank your child, someone (in this day and age, any schmuck really) can file a child abuse complaint, and it's even odds that it's your ass...though I've heard that there's a differentiation between hitting your child with an open palm vs. a closed fist that applies, but I'm not sure how prevalent that is. -
The $81B emergency budget
Crap Throwing Monkey replied to UConn James's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
No, it's not. It's being portrayed in the media as being under those auspices. If you actually look at the bill, it's a bit broader than that. Of course, no one ever looks at the bills, because Americans are a bunch of lazy paste-eating slugs that blindly accept what the media feeds them... Figures... -
The $81B emergency budget
Crap Throwing Monkey replied to UConn James's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
That I can accept as an "emergency" - barely. What raises my eyebrows is why the federal government is paying for the repairs to a state university. Why is it that the only things I can find on the web about this Center are all related to this $2M appropriation? Now that's just stupid. -

Bills on NFL Network tonight
Crap Throwing Monkey replied to Tony P's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That team was so far beyond anything they've put on the field in years. Hell, their backup RB was light-years beyond anything we've seen in years, save perhaps McGahee. C'mon, refs...that was holding, dammit! -
Vehicle Registration Renewal
Crap Throwing Monkey replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's not unheard of for states and municipalities to contract out that stuff to companies that run them as "turnkey" operations (i.e. "You want to put your vehicle registration on-line, Arizona? We've got all the functionality, all we have to do is brand it.) I imagine that, if it's a private company hosting the functionality, they have to use a .com URL...or that NYS won't let them use a .gov so they can tax them... -
for those tired of the draft

This is a very good program, when I can remember not to yell at Schulz for his "Look Ma, no arms!" tackles or B word about all the uncalled holding - dammit! Jefferies just scored! Oh, wait...it's a 12-year old game. Don't get upset about it. It's already over - damn, great return by Davis! -

That's a very good counter-argument. I disagree with it (in particular, I think perpetuates if not actually worsens the mudslinging nature of American politics to the detriment of the country), but it's a very good argument. -
No, let's trade Henry for him quick!

"Speak up and fight back" is one thing. Mudslinging and ad hominem attacks in lieu of discussing actual issues is another. And I have a feeling the response to that observation is "Well, it worked for the Republicans!" Considering the contempt you hold them in, do you really want your party stooping to that level? -

So let me get this straight: your outrage at Cheney isn't because he said what he said, but because you heard about it? And let's not forget that what Cheney said was in a one-on-one conversation with a senator away from the microphones, and not in public statements. They ARE two different things. -

Crap Throwing Monkey replied to Rich in Ohio's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The truly sad thing is that these two are fairly representative of their parties today (yes, Limbaugh isn't a politician, but I'd consider him representative of the Republicans). Between Dean's recent antics, Frist's pandering, Delay's...just being Delay, and all the other BS these people indulge in the name of "leadership"...why the hell do we let them run the country? -

Except Dean apparently implied Limbaugh's a coke-head. Limbaugh popped prescription meds. That would be slander. Not that I personally care...Dean and Limbaugh slamming each other is more of a crap-throwing monkey fight than anything I've ever engaged in. Just wanted to point out that, unless it's been proven Limbaugh's done coke, it is slander. -

Yeah, because I'm sure Dick Cheney is the first person to use strong language on the floor of the Senate.
