"Why don't you kill yourself, DC Tom?" He may not be Ted Bundy...but he's no Mother Teresa either...

When reality bites you in the ass, it's nice to have delusion to fall back on.

I do. For example, I'd be just as comfortable telling you to your face that you're an immature little pasty-faced half-witted ignoramus as I am telling you on the internet. But then, I don't give a !@#$. It's very liberating. And you missed my point anyway. Many people do behave the same on the net as in person. But why does it matter?

And how many people know his favorite is "Green Eggs and Ham"? What's more...how many people do you really think care? Seriously. Probably about the same number that care that I play guitar and piano. Precisely zero. No one gives a sh--. This is the internet.

And trust me, you have no reason to brag.

Pat Williams on NFL Radio

Pat has good reason to be building up his own image: namely, marketing. But he should also realize that the graveyards are full of indespensable men. So? Isn't there just the slightest possibility that the whiny little B word deserves it? -
Best route from DC to Buffalo
Crap Throwing Monkey replied to stevewin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And don't forget Clyde Peeling's Reptile Land...after dozens of trips from DC to Rochester, I finally stopped to check it out. It was in November, so it was pretty much deserted, but they have any interesting collection of BIG snakes, gators, and crocs. 363917[/snapback] It's not just Reptileland. It's Reptileland AND a Subway. -
That happened last summer...some sort of accident on the Mississippi caused a localized spike in prices in Florida, from the transport problems it caused. The fluctuation of gas prices is more consistent with market pricing than it is price manipulation, and I think (I don't know, and can't prove it) what evidence of manipulation there is can probably be explained away by reasonable hedging on futures.

Best route from DC to Buffalo
Crap Throwing Monkey replied to stevewin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is possible to do the DC-Buffalo drive in six hours on the 270-15-390 route. Difficult - and dangerous, as there's certain parts of 15 in N. Pennsylvania that are honest-to-God death traps even in good weather (four lane, undivided, 65mph speed limit, winding through the mountains...I've seen two people die on that road) - and insane, but possible, as I've done it in 6:07. Still...bet on 7 hours if you hurry, 8 if you obey the law. -
Bull. I'm the most ignored poster here.

About six years ago, the USS Yorktown had a major power plant failure and had to be towed back into Norfolk for two days of repairs. The reason? As part of their manpower reduction initiatives, the Navy had "wisely" decided to automate their engineering plants with Windows NT 4.0 workstations...and one of the workstations experienced a divide-by-0 "blue screen of death" crash, taking down the engines and bringing the billion-dollar guided missile cruiser to a screeching halt.

For the critics of Gitmo
Crap Throwing Monkey replied to KRC's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Durbin's statements were to the effect that the interrogation techniques at Gitmo sounded like something out of the Gulags or concentration camps. Superficially...I'm inclined to agree with him, as being forced to stand for long hours, long night-time interrogations, and generally breaking down someone's identity by controlling every aspect of their movements through the day as common to Gitmo and the Soviet and Nazi prison systems. However - and here's the points where Durbin has his head firmly up his ass - the Gulags and concentration camp systems went FAR beyond just that, including organized and institutionalized physical torture and summary execution...something of which I have yet to see any stories of emerging from Gitmo. Second, the techniques he complains about at Gitmo exist in virtually every prison system in the world...fostering physical and psychological exhaustion in order to break a person down is called interrogation, and I'm sure Durbin would be hard-pressed to find a country where such techniques are even remotely as benign as he'd like to pretend they should be. Third...the Gulags and concentration camps contained anyone who had the teremity to speak out against their respective governments...if Gitmo were truly like those examples, Durbin's ass would be on a secret jet to Cuba right now. The simple fact that he can make that BS comparison in an open forum demonstrates just how much of a BS comparison it is. -
Different drones...what you're talking about was a glorified recon drone; the strike capability is secondary. The UCAVs are purpose-built remotely piloted combat vehicles. The recon drone (the Predator) was also controlled in-theater; the imagery was beamed back to Tampa, and the order to strike was given from there, but the actual operator was in Pakistan, I believe. That's turning out to be one of the bigger issues with the current technology, actually...the real-time imagery being beamed back to HQ is giving high-ranking officers the ability to very easily interfere in the field, which, as Johnson and McNamara proved in Vietnam, is a generally bad idea.

Nice of you to take some time away from the drive-thru window to let us know that...except that The Jesuits are a Catholic order, you dumbass. If we ever manage to find a topic that you know anything about, I'll be !@#$ing amazed.
