It hasn't quite jumped the shark yet. It just needs more cowbell.

Only if the market's are equal. In DC, "market" on the Anacostia waterfront is vastly different from "market" anywhere else in the district, and in most of the metro area. There simply isn't low-income real estate available in the DC area, as the market's too overheated. Most of the people in SE DC who will be forced to sell at SE DC market prices won't be able to afford any place else in the DC Metro region...as a practical matter, they'll have been stripped of the right to home ownership (unless they move...but I'd argue that if they had the wherewithal to do that, they wouldn't be in the low income bracket that can't afford typical DC real estate). And southeast DC is a dump, too...from what I've seen of New London (admittedly very little - I've driven through it twice in the past year), they're probably just about equal. The difference being, I don't really know what the markets are like around New London. I DO know what they're like around DC...and the SC's decision will effectively strip a good amount of DC residents of the privilege of home ownership for the sake of commercial development.

Go, Go, Motherment!

What the !@#$????? Any parent who uses a helmet law to convince their child to wear a helmet shouldn't be a parent anyway. That is some seriously beausoxed-up logic... Again...what the !@#$? A school district takes direct, immediate, and common sense action in reducing their contribution to childhood obesity (namely, removing the vending machines)...and this bimbo's response is "No, don't take direct, immediate, and common sense action...wait a year while we write a report on it." It's not the !@#$ing space program...it's school lunches. Feed the kids a well-balanced diet when they're at school, make 'em take gym class, and take the candy out of the vending machines. -
Pretty much the definition of "eminent domain". No one's evicted on that principle...they're forced to sell at market value. Even so...the decision is setting a bad precedent for personal property rights, in that it establishes that local governments can exercise eminent domain for commercial projects if they're deemed to be "in the public good", which is at best a questionable argument. And I guarantee you that people in DC are drooling over this decision, too. One of the difficulties in building the new baseball stadium on the Anacostia waterfront has been that, while the stadium itself falls under the traditional definition of a public work subject to eminent domain, the rest of the waterfront development plans were unquestionably commercial (I've seen them; wife's company is doing the legal work) and eminent domain was NOT applicable. With this decision, the DC government can now, if they choose, force everyone to sell on the principle that the stadium's efficacy as a public work is diminished in the absence of further development...hence the rest of the development plans qualify as a "public work" as well under the SC's decision. And THAT will be a major shitstorm...and a grave injustice, as a great many homeowners in DC will cease to be homeowners, as they won't be able to buy anywhere else in the region in this overheated market. The bottom line is that the SC's decision makes it substantially more difficult for lower income homeowners in urban markets to remain homeowners...

The stereotype of union workers being lazy and unwilling to work is just so inexplicable...

You really need to learn a language. Any language. Doesn't even have to be English; kiSwahili, coherently expressed, would be more comprehensible to us than the nonsense you type now.

I still don't get the fascination with the soup thread. The spherical gecko/grunting chameleon thread was a classic in the Monty Python vein, though...and the telephone pole thread was uproariously stupid. And of course let's not forget the "Downloading DVD's is illegal but unenforcable hence legal" train wreck...

The consequences being that he gets to watch you act like an immature ass? Jesus Christ, where do you people come up with this nonsense? -

I thought he was a Jesuit...big difference, you know... -
Opus Dei and OPEC are the same thing. Dan Brown said so in one of his books...
-
Well, it only makes sense, since the Pope is the head of OPEC...
-
That was incredible...not just because of the inherent hilarity of the post, but because it so immediately and irrevocably set the tone of the thread. Usually, such things evolve over several posts...

Now you're an expert on the oil industry, too? Why don't you just learn to shut the !@#$ up and read; you might learn something.

Oh, yeah, there's a brilliant idea. Universal - and hence incomplete and half-assed - mental health screening for children, which will of course be done by a profession that has yet to distinguish between mental illness and being a teenager. That would be a really successful government program. The comparison to mandatory vaccinations, though, is complete BS. Vaccines, despite what the ignorant masses would like to believe, aren't given to individuals to prevent their illness. They're given to populations to prevent endemic disease. If people weren't so flat-out ignorant about it - or about pediatric mental illness, or most other things - such programs wouldn't be necessary to begin with. -

"EryRetard"? What the !@#$ is wrong with you? -
Yeah, because it was an American-built AGM-84 fired from an American-built Iraqi F-16 that hit the USS Stark.

This must be some new definition of "good" that I've never heard before. "Oil Storm" sucked.

In all honesty, she deserved the beating. The first six times she asked people to do her homework...well, okay, I was willing to let it slide. But it started getting really old with "someone tell me how to look up exchange rates on the internet..."

Definitely a thread that did NOT need more cowbell...
-
Doesn't have time to post anymore. Her homework takes up most of her time now that we stopped doing it...

"Crowe"? As in Russel?

I thought it was "Do unto others as they have done unto you".

Yes, he did, Bill...in private. Personally, I think a public insult calls for a public apology, however. But I will consider your "I was wrong" statement above to be such, and say that you are now forgiven. But you're still a friggin' idiot-boy...

Yeah, I know...I gotta be me. If my worst enemy was dangling from a cliff, I'd throw him a rope and haul him back up...then promptly push him off again...
