  1. Trust you to have that tidbit of information. If anyone did... You would hope they thought of drainage. I wouldn't bank on it, I've worked with too many "experts in their field". Watching CNN right now, the 'burbs east New Orleans sound like an absolute horror. The scary thing isn't all the people and animals calling for help (not that I'm callous to people in trouble, but a dog howling in panic unnerves me)...it's that it's getting quieter as time goes on.
  2. No, that was the actual plot of this past season. Season 1 was actually very, very good (people actually acted progressively more tired and took time to eat meals, which was a nice touch). 2 and 3 were okay, but stretched credibility in places. Season 4 was so contrived and unrealistic it was horrible.
  3. But do you think they'll certify it safe for use with a big steel storm-damaged roof? Plus, we haven't heard anything about the condition of the field. With the rainwater coming through the holes in the roof, it could easily be wrecked.
  4. Come over to the dark side, #89...
  5. Strong design. But it seriously makes one wonder how they're going to fix the damned thing. They certainly won't in time for the season, not if it takes half a year just to spray the hypalon.
  6. Especially with Owens drawing double coverage like Moulds used to for Price.
  7. I find things like that far more entertaining when they're at least vaguely grounded in reality (or, for shows like Lost, firmly grounded in the reality they define). But I draw the line when a terrorist organization kidnaps the Secretary of Defense, co-opts the internet, uses the internet to melt down ALL the nuclear reactors in the country, hijacks a Stealth Fighter, shoots down Air Force One, steals a nuclear warhead, and launches it on a homemade cruise missile...all within 24 hours*. Stupidity is not entertaining. *24 regular hours, not VABills hours.
  8. It's not going to be the same without Kiefer Sutherland shouting "Where is the <fill in the blank>!!!!" every other episode. Ye Gods, what a stupid !@#$ing show...
  9. As usual, you don't know what you're talking about. I'd explain it, but others already have.
  10. Isn't all retatta, by definition, weapons grade?
  11. Probably. Last report I heard, Gulfport was getting hammerred. "Complete devastation" was the phrase that was used to describe it. And of course, they wouldn't exaggerate at all... Still, Gulfport was in a bad position after the storm shifted east. "Complete devastation" it probably isn't, but I wouldn't be surprised if the city was substantially wrecked. Apparently the coastal casinos suffererd badly early...
  12. No, I'm not. I'm going by the practical definition of "destroyed" as "beyond recovery, thus requiring total removal and rebuilding from scratch". And I have no friggin' problem with that, either. Yes, it was. But then, this is the media - specifically, Fox. It usually is.
  13. Wait a minute...this makes sense. What is it doing here?
  14. Supposedly 40k houses are flooded just east of New Orleans proper. They didn't define "flooded", though...and that number keeps changing from 5k to 40k to 10k...
  15. If you're talking about frame construction, when half the shingles are gone a roof pretty much IS destroyed. I'd wager the standard is different for the Superdome... Plus...who among us knows how the roof on the Superdome is constructed, really? I've heard three different descriptions of its construction now. So who's to say the roof is or isn't structurally compromised?
  16. As LAMPs go, that was a good one. Thanks for sharing that story.
  17. FoxSnooze is only "fair and balanced"; notice they make no claims to be "truthful and accurate". MSNBC's coverage is actually very good. I'm rather surprised.
  18. The MSNBC reporter in the Superdome's reporting live now that there's even more large holes opening in the roof...and while the stadium's not going anywhere, the field's pretty much flooding. I don't know that that surface is going to be ready for opening weekend. Props to all the emergency services down there, though. They had the foresight to, among other things, put civil engineers in the Superdome to evaluate any damage as it occurred. A pretty good and smart level of preparedness...
  19. It's not as newsworthy. Cat 5's - Camille, Andrew - are extremely rare and thus great stories. Cat 4's...a dime a dozen...ho-hum...time to cut to a Cindy Sheehan story...
  20. Never trust the first reports. Particularly when it's an event prone to sensationalism. Like that report of the hotel collapse I quoted...can't find another thing on it.
  21. It's like I said yesterday, though...when they say the Superdome will withstand 200mph winds, what does withstand actually mean? The metal-and-concrete structure may stand up very well...but canvas over a metal grid?
  22. MSNBC just showed pictures one of their reporters emailed out. There's two or three nine-foot holes that opened up along a seam in the roof. They pretty much came out and said the next 90 minutes are going to be hell for the people in there. CNN's reporting now that a hotel collapsed (their words) in Harvey...which is basically in NO on the banks of the Mississippi. Lots of people probably sheltering in it. That could be awful.
  23. I was kinda afraid of that...
  24. What, you want all the lineman to have a good game at the same time?
  25. I remember last season Shelton was on my sh-- list for about the first six games for just those kinds of lame-ass transgressions. Then he really came on. And that's actually what worries me. If he's making the same lame-ass transgressions NOW, in preseason...does that mean he's dogging it, saving himself for the regular season? Or that he starts the season slow, and has to build up to form? Or is he just a spotty and inconsistent player? Or was he simply handled by a very good linebacker? Whichever, it does NOT make one confident in his play week-to-week.
