Yes...nut not my point. There's a cognitive function at work in gallows humor (which, by its nature, is empathic, and not what this lady did) that allows one to better process information and relate to difficult situations. Even something like a mentally "Dawgged" kid strangling himself in a recliner...the woman's comments we're discussing were non-empathic in the extreme, but it's entirely possible to maintain a healthy measure of empathy while dryly and quizzically chuckling at the fundamental absurdity of being strangled in a La-Z-Boy. Or commenting to someone who loses a family member that they should check under the couch. That type of humor actually serves a very important purpose. I personally don't think the problem's the blogger. I think the problem's the rest of the world, which seems to think the right to be heard includes the right to be taken seriously. As I'm continually saying, it doesn't. That everyone happens to listen to her anyway isn't her fault...some people are best ignored, and most people don't seem to be capable of even realizing that, let alone deciding who should and should not be taken seriously. If people were smart enough to recognize that, "politically correct" wouldn't even be an issue. Bipolar disorder's a riot - oooh, look, a shiny thing!

Imagine how the solid bioligical waste material would have intersected with the oscillating cooling device if he suggested looking under the couch for the lost Miami game...

Laughter - play, in the larger sense - is a manifestation of curiousity, which leads to understanding, which is the first prerequisite of handling any unfortunate situation. Oh, come on...the ENTIRE team can't be made up of all-pros and future Hall of Famers. You need (and this team doesn't have) a good number of Phil Hansen type guys who'll go out and do their jobs consistently and competently...and the fact is, I can't recall the last time Reed was out of position or ran a route incorrectly or didn't play all-out to the best of his ability - and hasn't dropped any more or any less this year than anyone else on the team. I'd sooner take a roster of 53 Josh Reeds than I would Mike "First Round Pick Who Couldn't Block Sunlight" Williams or Nate "Best Cornerback in the League - Just Ask Chris Chambers" Clements.

I don't think I deserved that. But seriously...just because some people are over-sensitive and can't have kids within ten yards of them, it doesn't therefore follow that kids should be able to run all over the place like little hellions. In general, reasonable people are going to keep reasonable control of their kids (i.e. keep them in their seats, keep them from shouting at the top of their lungs), and reasonable people are going to give kids leeway within those boundaries to be kids. What I'm specifically thinking of, through this whole thread, is the idiots who let their children run around like amphetamine-soaked demons being physically disruptive, and laugh it off with "Kids will be kids". There is a happy medium between "Children should be seen and not heard", and "Children should be seen and heard by everyone in the building."

My sympathy is underwhelming, considering how I read on this board and recieve in my PMs here three times worse every day. Like BiB said, I weep for the future...

I personally would hate to see Wyche leave, since 1) judging by Losman's progress Wyche is doing at the very least a decent job (he hasn't screwed him up, at least, which for this staff is !@#$ing stellar), and 2) the best thing for Losman's career is working consistently long-term with a position coach. Basically, there's no reason to get rid of Wyche I can see, but plenty of reasons to keep him. Hell, maybe he'll get promoted to OC. He sure as sh-- can't be worse than what we have now.

It depends. Define "worst". I think this is the most heartless. Based on record and talent, they're better than the '01 3-13 team...but at least that squad was watchable, since they had heart and tried to win games. Ditto the '84-'85 squads - they may have been worse, record-wise, but I never recall damn near everyone on the field mailing it in. Again, at least Bruce Mathison tried...it's not really his fault he couldn't overcome being Bruce Mathison.
