  1. It's a quote of what he would have said if he'd appeared on CNN to answer tough questions, as opposed to answering Fox's softballs.
  2. Wow...a whole three-day delay in reporting it. The shooter must have been drunk.
  3. Good point. I still think it's stupid, but good point.
  4. Last time a VP shot someone, it was a duel. Last time a VP had a hunting accident...well, not that I know of. But TR had hunting accidents...reported neither in the papers nor the history books.
  5. Yeah, motive. Whittington was just about to go to the grand jury to get an indictment against Halliburton for...well, for being Halliburton. Because we all know Halliburton's involved somehow. So Whittington had to go...and Karl Rove decided the best way to do this was to have Cheney take him hunting, get drunk, and shoot him in the head, thereby maintaining "plausible deniability" allowing them to insist it really was an accident...while, in the meantime, delaying EVERYTHING in an attempt to cover up the fact that the VP was drunk as planned. All so the guy they DIDN'T kill could NOT die of a minor heart attack a couple days later. Personally, I find it more likely that Bigfoot did it. The only reason this is even REMOTELY plausible is because it's no more convoluted and stupid than the pre-war Iraq justifications.
  6. And said person's work has been used by politicians to apportion blame as well. Rather than improve procedure, as was intended.
  7. You're wrong. Whittington was in the ER much quicker than three hours, the hospital staff is required to report any short of gunshot would to the police, the police would have been notified at the latest by the time Whittington got to the ER. By all appearances, they were notified by the Secret Service when Whittington's ambulance left FOR the hospital.
  8. How in the HELL can this possibly be anything but idle assumption on your part? Can you quote ONE fact that even motivates this?
  9. They didn't wait 24 hours, they reported it immediately to the proper authorities. Who do not include the press. Why is that SO !@#$ing hard to understand?
  10. "Survivor - White House Press Corps" Helen Thomas, you are voted off the island...BLAM!
  11. No one knows, because the accident wasn't reported to the media for 24 hours. And, as we all know, the police and EMS, who were on the scene, aren't qualified to make that judgement. Just the media. Who couldn't even bother to listen for the call on a friggin' police scanner...
  12. I've heard plenty of people now SAY he was drunk. I haven't yet seen anyone provide evidence of that, though. Just say it. And don't tell me to prove he wasn't. You're making the accusation, burden of proof is on you. And don't tell me they delayed in reporting the incident. They delayed in reporting it to the press. Everything I've seen so far says it was reported to the proper law enforcement authorities and emergencies immediately. Maybe you should pick up the police report and give it a once-over first...
  13. Although it's not TRULY important until the Sacramento Bee picks it up...
  14. Very true...as usual, the administration's handled this clumsily and stupidly. But if hunting accidents are major national news items, how come they've never been before or since? And if events on the VP's hunting outings are major news - or even have the potential to be major news - why don't the reporters do their jobs and report the news, rather than just wait to be told what it is? On second thought...maybe that last one's not such a good idea. Imagine how many hunting accidents there'd be if reporters followed Cheney around on a quail hunt...
  15. Because they're too busy reporting that they didn't report Cheney shot a guy in a hunting accident. And now that Cheney's being interviewed on Fox, we'll never know the truth behind what happened...
  16. This may come as a surprise to you, but interviews in general pull out whatever "truth" the interviewer is aiming to find. That's as true of adverserial CNN as it is of ball-washing Fox. And...what truth??? Is there some other "truth" we're looking for above and beyond "it was a !@#$ing hunting accident"? You think if Cheney goes on CNN instead of Fox, Larry King's going to get him to blurt out "Yeah, I shot the bastard! And I'd do it again! !@#$ing B word owes me money!"
  17. Can we officially change the description of the media's role in things from "reporting" to "regurgitating" now?
  18. Who cares? Cheney shot a guy in a hunting accident...
  19. I'm pretty sure, if you're watching men's Olympic figure skating on TV, there's PLENTY of better places to be...
  20. Geez...you post an off-topic post on the football board, it gets moved to the OT board where it belongs, and you're whining it got moved to where it belongs and is not where you put it. Want some cheese with that whine?
  21. Burn my trophy chisels? Maybe after the reunion...
  22. As near as I can figure, we're supposed to care because the press told us to, because they actually had to investigate something for once instead of having it spoon-fed to them like a bunch of children. By the way...did anyone hear about the guy yesterday who died in a hunting accident in Montana? No? You know why? Because it's just a !@#$ing hunting accident!
  23. The local police with jurisdiction have already investigated, and found no basis for charges save purchasing an improper stamp. If the guy dies, I don't think they can just turn around and say "Whoops! You're a criminal now." It makes no sense to say it's homocide if Whittington dies, but not attempted homocide if he doesn't. Of course, just because it makes no sense whatsoever doesn't mean it can't happen; we're not talking about reality, we're talking about the law. But it's still stupid...
