  1. The "only sort of" illegal ones, or the "really, really" illegal ones?
  2. Stupid. Half the audience doesn't watch past halftime now, and they're already watching the game. How would they draw a new audience to a late game when they can't hold the existing one through a full program?
  3. I think you're nuts. Specifically, I think the basic idea is sound, if excessive (20 years after you award the monopoly, people will B word about the monopoly and congress will overturn it. So make it 20-year rights.) But I think you're right: you don't know enough about mechanical engineering or nuclear physics to say. Specifically, I don't think you realize that you're talking about setting policy, not about the physics or engineering of the problem.
  4. And we got it at list price this afternoon. Me and the wife are now proud owners of a postwar 4br, 2 bath house with a finished outdoor workshop. Now we just need to come up with the closing costs. You don't even want to KNOW what those run. They're more than this house originally cost...
  5. JSF... ...whew...that was a good one. JSF is a very good example of how totally !@#$ed up the system is. It should serve as an example of how NOT to do things. And it sure as hell isn't any sort of example of "best technology, lowest cost"...quite the contrary, it's dumbed-down F/A-22 tech, and costs are shooting through the roof.
  6. The psychics don't bother me. It's the idiot jumping around on the furniture bragging about his new girlfriend and Scientology that I can't stand.
  7. Not abnormal. I know a 1400-sq ft., 2-br, 1-bath condo in downtown DC (10th and I, roughly) that's yours for a measley $689,000. Good news is they can't move it at that price; bad news is that eighteen months ago they could have got a cool million. Hell, we just put a bid on a house in MD. Beautiful house, slightly underpriced in the neighborhood. 2000 square feet. $475k, with an escalation clause to $490k. We stand a good chance, as the owner likes us a lot and would sell to us at $490k over someone else at $500k...but I could see someone offering $525k easily for this house.
  8. Yes, the industry sucks. And yes, apparently you expect more from these people. Which is where we differ - I expect them to be who they are: professional salesmen, not tax advisors or loan officers. Hell, I just had an hour's long conversation with our loan officer and financial advisor. I wouldn't think of talking to our agent about these things...because our agent's just an agent. Why would I give a sh-- what he thinks about a 5-1 interest only ARM versus a 30-yr fixed plus a point? Why would I even ask? That's what the loan officer's for. Yes, you expect more...but maybe your expectations are unrealisticly high?
  9. Because it was wrong. Even according to your source, you were wrong. Check your facts next time.
  10. Next thing you know, Oregon will be implanting chips into people's heads to tax them on the miles they're THINKING about driving.
  11. Like I said...it's illegal, just not illegal enough. And what the !@#$ is that supposed to mean, a misdemeanor the "first time" they're caught, but a felony the second? "Oh, you're still here illegally, but this time it's serious." Who wrote these stupid laws? !@#$ it. Let's just shoot 'em all, and ship the Soylent Green to Ethiopia.
  12. So it's illegal, it's just not illegal enough.
  13. If the game ends and you're no longer drunk, it's not a real sport.
  14. Money. Bingo. Give the man a prize. And money is an end to itself.
  15. That must be why the bartenders were arrested.
  16. Best way to prevent that is to go into bars and arrest bouncers for misdemeanor assault before they rape and murder. Hey, it works for DWI...
  17. Hey! Get these facts out of here!
  18. What, we have to destroy the infrastructure to protect it?
  19. And not conicidentally, the equipment's been wearing out faster.
  20. "Dad can make all the babies laugh on queue" On "CUE". How do you misspell a three letter word?
  21. Fine, then wear and tear on the roads. Wreck your roads, it causes wear and tear on the trucks. Look, sh-- is designed for a purpose. Part of designing for a purpose is making tradeoffs. It's an imperfect world. Grow up and deal with it.
  22. I bet before it's all over I'll suggest at least once that we should keep the illegal aliens and deport congress. I mean...a bill to make illegal immigration a felony and illegal aliens subject to deportation. To make illegal immigration illegal. It's ALREADY !@#$ing illegal, you idiots!!! Oh, well. At least it'll keep them from doing stupid sh-- like naming the second Tuesday in April "National Tube Sock Day" for a while.
  23. It's important, because they have AK-47s. Didn't you read his post? May as well armor proof the cases of MRE's the trucks carry, not to mention the MREs themselves.
  24. Plus, every pound of steel plate you hang on a truck is a pound less the truck carries. Which means for a given amount of capacity, you're going to need more armored trucks than unarmored trucks...which means you're increasing overall risk by putting more people and material in harm's way. Plus, now that you've weighed down the truck with armor, you've made it slower, so you can't haul ass out of an ambush as quickly, and you've increased risk even more. (Probably substantially, considering every account of an ambush I've ever heard of emphasizes speed over protection in surviving it.)
  25. What are you using the tractor for? It's not necessarily difficult - the Russians did it as a field mod (to agricultural tractors) in late '41 to tow guns. They worked. And they sucked. Made them overweight and top-heavy. Put limits on their cross-country use ("dry" ground they used to travel over before the war was suddenly too marshy to support their weight). Lower speed. Increased wear. Decreased load capacity. It's not difficult to slap some armor on a tractor...it IS difficult, however, to do so in a way that maintains their usefulness.
