  1. Of course it'll hurt Bush. That's not the issue - not for me, at least. My question is: should it hurt Bush? Or is it simply that the American public is too damned stupid to realize that gas prices at the pump have less to do with partisan policits than they do supply, demand, and market risk? I simply vote the latter, as I've learned never to underestimate the stupidity of my fellow American citizens, most of whom could tell me all the contestants on this year's American Idol before they could explain how gas actually gets to a gas station.
  2. I love the Bang cartoon from a few years back about the NFL Draft..."And with their pick the Philadelphia Eagles select...Jesus Christ!" "Boooooo....." Or there's Bob Uecker's classic: "One of my biggest thrills in baseball was watching a guy fall out of the upper deck of Connie Mack Stadium. The crowd booed when he got up."
  3. Reminds me of my favorite Christmas dinner prayer: "Dear Lord, I've been asked, nay commanded, to thank Thee for the Christmas turkey before us... a turkey which was no doubt a lively, intelligent bird... a social being... capable of actual affection... nuzzling its young with almost human-like compassion. Anyway, it's dead and we're gonna eat it. Please give our respects to its family..." <sigh>...I miss Bloom County...
  4. That's really low. Is there any Sabres fan who, while appreciating Campbell's hit as a great play, wasn't simultaneously hoping Umberger wasn't badly hurt? Judging by the post-game, even Campbell felt bad about it. Calling for an injury to any sports player is simply retarded. Unless they play for the Dolphins, of course.
  5. "Darin emoticon" doesn't have the same ring to it...
  6. A Darin smiley ( ) would have helped immensely.
  7. Drink. Bilge water. No, you don't.
  8. The Jumbotron's using the TV feed? Every hockey game I've ever been to, TV and Jumbotron are entirely different feeds. Or were you being sarcastic?
  9. Because he's never wrong. Hard to be wrong when you commit yourself to every possibility.
  10. No, they didn't. That's part of the reason they were irrational.
  11. Taking bids for the info?
  12. I'm not doubting you. I'm doubting ESPN. Specifically, I'm assuming ESPN - and Clayton in particular - is an excellent contra-indication of what will REALLY happen.
  13. So we can safely assume the Bills are not taking Bunkley, then. My money's on Winston Justice...Clayton hasn't mentioned him as a rumor yet, has he?
  14. Plenty of people who don't step up, too. Fact is, this kid suddenly found himself stepping up and being the parent of a 12-year old...and from the sound of it, he's being a better parent than most natural parents.
  15. Any politician who says gas prices "should be" anything other than what the market sets is a blithering idiot.
  16. Becasue big government = good, corporations = bad. Because government helps the people, corporations only leech off them. I was stunned to find out that taxes on gas in CA constitute roughly 25%-33% of the total gas price. But even so...you can't blame CA taxes for the ethanol problems. Legislation, maybe...but not taxes.
  17. But...but...but...you're wrong, because it's Bush's fault! Serious question: what is the oil company's profit on selling a gallon of gas? Not on refining it, just selling it at the pump? I realize, from a corporate economics standpoint, it's probably a meaningless number...but I'm still curious...
  18. Somebody needs to tell this guy the '80s are over.
  19. You almost make it sound as exciting as soccer...
  20. Except for the occasional Ebola outbreak. Except they're not reporting on Angola, either. I guess Ebola is passe.
  21. It's a Sunday. You should have waited until tomorrow for more attention. But even then...most people will ignore the story, as it's contrary to their preconceived notions that constitute the "truth" for them...
  22. Lead story on both the AP and Reuters feeds. Of course, since it's a weekend, the networks will ignore it for the regular talk-show punditry cycle. It's enough to make one wonder if bin Laden's taking a page from the early Nazi foreign policy rule book: make announcements on a Saturday, so you're 48 hours ahead of the reaction come Monday.
  23. I invited them over...but they're too busy counting their tupperware with JSP.
