  1. Does anyone else think it accurate to refer to our current state of government as "The tyrrany of the two-party system"? Or is it just me?
  2. I remember years ago when that American !@#$ got hisself caned in Singapore, and how everyone was on the State Department to keep Singapore from carrying out Singapore justice on an American citizen. It was !@#$ing stupid logic back then, too. You do a crime in East Kjhjskristan, you pay the penalty in East Kjhjskristan, even if it's not a crime in your home country. Don't like it? Don't go to !@#$ing East Kjhjskristan.
  3. "I signed the confession as a joke...even though I was involved. Richard Reid and I were supposed to hijack a plane together. You should all die! Now kill me!" He's insane already. And it's probably a fair sentence...I doubt he was truly materially involved to the point where he could have prevented anything. He's an attention whore. A wanna-be. Now he has the pleasure of thinking he's done something with his life, which is probably what he always wanted to begin with.
  4. That's just about the most use I've got out of my physics degree in years...
  5. Because...? That just stinks to high heaven of the stereotypical "We're French, so we're special" attitude...
  6. Yes, I'm sure, because you forgot one simple fact: if you carry the bag of sand up and down the stairs, you're constraining its motion in the vertical. In other words, while you obviously do work carrying it up, you also do work carrying it down, because you're retarding its fall. So even though it may seem, from the mathematical point of view that ∫ F · ds is zero because ds is zero, it's not, because F, which you exert, is not the same going up as going down. QED. But you don't actually accomplish much, because the sand's right back where it started.
  7. Did you know Mike Williams signed with Jacksonville?
  8. Someone tell me again how Drew Bledsoe was the problem...
  9. Obviously doctored, as VABills hasn't done that in years...
  10. Actually, just the opposite - you've accomplished nothing, as the sand's right where it's started. But you've done lots of work in carrying the sand. And what y'all really mean to say is that we've accomplished nothing constructive in Iraq. But there's nothing that says an accomplishment must be constructive.
  11. Yep, exactly. Like I said, they accomplished something.
  12. I don't believe these !@#$ing idiots. What is SO hard about saying "Yes, the mission - as defined as the military operation of invading Iraq and overthrowing Saddam Hussein's government - was accomplished." Because THAT mission was, in fact, accomplished, and the timing of the photo op should lead any rational person to believe that that's what the photo op was referring to. What is SO !@#$ING HARD about getting that message across that this administration can't do it?
  13. Simple, really...it weakens the legislative branch and strengthens the executive. And it's neither branch's responsibility: if the legislative and executive branches are arguing interpretation between themselves, there's a far more fundamental problem with the government than "Bush bad" or "Congress bad" Yeah. I don't see a problem with either of those - particularly the first one. You think it's wrong that attorneys should be required to abide by the policies established by their superiors?
  14. Nothing. Although technically, all howitzers are non-LOS.
  15. So Specter's pissed that the President's interpretation of legislation isn't the same as Congress'...and his solution is to ram Congressional interpretation down the executive's throat. And you're okay with that? Specifically, you're okay with BOTH of these branches of government trying to take that responsibility away from where it belongs: the courts?
  16. bull sh--. They accomplished a lot. That most of it is...well, bad, frankly...does not detract from the fact that they accomplished something.
  17. They also reported that Tampa's becoming disillusioned with Mike Williams...
  18. As in underwater? Many years ago, DoD wanted to try an underwater burst of a large-ish warhead (multi-kt range, I think. Not as big as a megaton) off the coast somewhere. NOAA (or its equivalent at the time) basically told them "No, you really don't want to do that." Apparently, even a moderate sized warhead will create severe coastal surf conditions (basically, not-too-severe tsunami conditions). I tried doing the math about a year ago, to see what kind of waves it would create. I gave up, mostly because the Indian Ocean tsunami hit and I said to myself "Whatever result I get, it sure as hell isn't going to be as bad as that," and lost interest.
  19. That second link only considers ground bursts, too. An air burst over Manhattan would have a significantly wider damage radius. And like they say, the radii are "idealized", not taking in to account terrain effects (which can have a big effect; for those who don't know, Nagasaki suffered less damage than Hiroshima from a larger bomb in part because the blast wave at Nagasaki reflected off terrain features...and in part because they missed their aim point by a couple miles.) It's probably accurate for a relatively small yield in a relatively flat area like Manhattan...
  20. That's some good stuff... You did see some big hits. Specifically, you saw Umberger get levelled by Campbell. And you bitched. Whining idiots...
  21. Las Vegas, apparently. Like I care. Like that's even relevant. I don't need to know that CSI's set in Vegas to locate Vegas on a map. Conversely, knowing where CSI's set doesn't give me any insight as to where Vegas actually is.
  22. Although my point was, if the Oilers can knock off the Red Wings, anything can happen, so I won't fear Ottawa too much...
  23. Unquestionably. Problem is, she's butt-ugly.
  24. Those matchups scared me more yesterday, before the Redwings were knocked out by the Oilers...
