Chip Kelly HC! (possibly for the Browns)
scribo replied to 13player's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is not 11 p.m. in Arizona, and they are all adults fully capable of staying up late if needed. The fact he spent seven hours and still chose to meet with others says a lot to me. -

I'll stick with canceled since he never rescheduled them. Of course Reid could have called the Cards to try to restart talks if things had fallen apart with the Chiefs. The point is if Kelly had other interviews scheduled and is now not going to be where he said he'd be, that would be an indication that this one report could be accurate. Well, there you go! That, to me, means he certainly has not committed in any way to the Browns. -

Reid canceled all his other interviews two days ago and didn't sign until today. -
Hire Lovie or bust.

Check that Twitter account -- plainly a fake. -

I disagree 100 percent. Chip Kelly does not employ a gimmick offense. The option-spread O and the hurry-up O are now established tactics that playoff teams are using. Chip runs an offense that relies heavily on exploiting weaknesses, creating mistmatches and then doing a better job of counter-adjusting than his opponents do. In reality, what he does is very straightforward. Believe it or not, he is sticking to the basics in many ways. -
So if we get to say, next Wednesday, without a new coach
scribo replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
NFL rules stipulate Team A can only request permission to speak with Team B's employee if Team B's season is over or if Team B is on a bye week. An offer cannot be made to any employee of Team B while Team B's season is still ongoing regardless of whether there is bye week or not. -

I wonder if it would really just come down to Russ Brandon saying something along the lines of, "Chip, we want you to be the Bills' next head coach. We will pay you $7.5 million a year for five years. And if you agree right now, canceling your other appointments, we will give you a $5 million bonus." -

It could mean other teams and thus other candidates are waiting on McCoy's and other coordinator's fates to be more clear. -
NFL Writers are turning into message board guessers
scribo replied to theesir's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Blaming the writers is easy and somewhat fair. But publishers, editors and producers are forcing their reporters into being more and more agressive on social media. He (or she) who has the most followers, retweets, etc., is getting the best gigs now. It is not hard to figure out what the masses want. They are just giving it to them. I do hope though that every reporter is being careful to maintain journalistic ethics. You can put speculation out there as long as you are clear in that is what you're pushing while differentiating what are confirmed reports. -
I get that, but once hired Chip Kelly is an NFL coach. Lovie will look for a good opportunity no matter what. There may not be a better opportunity for a DC than the Bills right now. The one downside would be we'd likely only have Lovie for a single season, as someone would hire him away next season. It would be important to give him the assistant head coach title, so he could only leave for a head coach position.

Absolute pure crap article. I work in D.C. and heard Chris Russel's report. He simply said he "feels" the Bills could have interest because of Haslett's past with the Bills. He went on to say he has not been able to confirm there is interest, as NFL rules stipulate that the Bills could not speak with his agent, him or the Redskins yet, as the NFL only allows a team to make a request to speak with another team's employee if the team is on a bye week.

So many fans so negative all the time. I read the same when Mario Williams came to town as a FA...no star that big will sign with the Bills...etc. I don't think he'd interview with the Bills if he didn't already think he'd be wiling to come here. Don't forget every interview he does with an NFL team will be used against him in recruiting by other college coaches. -
I'd be very happy with Lovie Smith as our new head coach; although, I think I may be happier with Lovie as our DC and Chip Kelly as our head coach. #JustSaying

Tweeted a short while ago... From @QuentinGroves Chip Kelly is gonna be Buffalo's next head coach!! You heard it here first! -
What do you base that on? We have other Bills fans who live in Chicago posting here exactly the opposite.

I agree with you, but I think the argument is that the league is becoming more and more focused on offense so the teams are looking to move that way. And it could be said that the aforementioned Tomlin and Coughlin were bounced from the playoffs this year by teams with better offenses. By the way, Lovie Smith is my pick for head coach, among those candidates I think are realistic.

Adam Schefter today on Mike and Mike In the Morning predicted that Lovie Smith would not be rehired as a head coach this offseason. He said with the league's newish, intense focus on offense, defensive minded coaches are now going to have a difficult time getting into head coaching positions. But Belichick was brought up as an example of an old DC who now runs an offensive powerhouse.

Lovie Smith seems to be THE most logical answer to all our needs. He would bring credibility that the Bills, as an organization, haven't enjoyed in many years. He has leaguewide respect to bring in quality assistants and free agents. His past shows he is capable of taking the talent-laden defense the Bills have now and turn it into the powerhouse we all know it should be. He would come in with a chip on his shoulder, knowing this is his chance to prove his old team wrong. As for the business side, he would reenergize a beaten down fan-base. He is the common sense choice.

Rusty Jones is enough of a reason for me.

I think Reid gets the gig in Arizona...

Bills Should Hire Frank Reich

I'm more interested in Russ Grimm, who the Cards also let go today. -
Ruben Brown tweeted that he hopes the Bills will consider Lovie Smith.

Hell no to Haslett! Here is why, for me: Bills | Ex-Center Hull Refutes Haslett Claim - from www.KFFL.com Fri, 25 Mar 2005 10:13:02 -0800 Leo Roth, of the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, reports former Buffalo Bills C Kent Hull refutes the claim by New Orleans Saints head coach Jim Haslett that he used steroids during his career in the 1980s. Earlier this week, Haslett stated that he "played with a guy who came into the league, he came out of the USFL. He was 270 (pounds), and he would never have made our team if he didn't get up to 300. The linemen got him together, got him a little supplemental pill for the week and he got up to about 305 and made our team. And he's probably one of the all-time great players in Bills history." The one player that fits that description is Hull. "It's false, I can tell you that," said Hull. "I hate to hear it. I may have to give him a call. I certainly didn't use them."
