  1. The Bills could get it done - IF they wanted to. They didn't go after the high-priced guards when free agency opened. Evans is 33, so that needs to be considered. The teams that wanted to pay big money already did. Evans may find the market to be less than hot at this point, so the Bills could make an attempt at getting a value signing.
  2. Thanks for the link! That is indeed an exciting package. And Mr. Brooks has not always been positive about the Bills.
  3. Joe Buscaglia said this Saturday, too. Move Cordy Glenn to guard and play Jake Fisher at LT. Their skill sets both project better at those positions in Greg Roman's offense. The Bills upgrade two positions for the price of one. Of course, that's assuming Fisher gets it done in camp.
  4. Bingo! They'd likely have to keep EJ around even if he becomes 3rd string because of where he is in his contract. He'd actually cost more on the cap hit if he were cut. There would be a slight savings if he were traded. I also use to think EJ winning the job was best for the franchise, but I don't think that would be any better than Taylor winning the job. Both EJ and Tyrod are 25! The Bills have TT under contract longer at a cap-friendly rate. Why not? Why do you think EJ will get preferential treatment? I doubt Rex cares where anyone was drafted, at this point. Taylor is one of "his" guys now, someone he's talked highly about, tried to trade for in the past and brought in as a free agent now. EJ is a leftover from the past regime. I think they'll give EJ a fair shot, but I won't be surprised if it was EJ who doesn't get enough reps, if anyone.
  5. Have you watched the RGIII saga? Really watched it? I just moved back to WNY but I still work in DC. There is no part of RGIII I want in Buffalo. I am quite confident that will have no play in this. And the misnomer mentioned by others that EJ is the cheapest option is incorrect. If EJ were to start and do well this season, he'd possibly holdout next year and would certainly be getting a big extension. Taylor has the lowest cap hit this year, and his contract is structured so that he'd be an affordable starter.
  6. Rex Ryan said he had to game plan specifically for Clay when he was coaching the Jets. The 2014 Top 100 NFL Players video shows Luke Kuechly saying the same, adding that his defense accounted for Clay on every snap.
  7. I am very hopeful the Bills will have its first real quarterback competition in several years this spring and summer. Challenge makes everyone better, so I am excited not just to watch the competition but even more so to see how it helps the winner best lead the team. It is my hope that whoever proves himself to presently be the best overall quarterback will win the job and that Greg Roman will then tailor the offense to the winner's abilities. But there seems to be a lot of belief that Roman has a structure already in the works and will look for which QB best fits his plans. I see pros and cons with each QB going into the competition, which should start in OTAs. Who do you think has the best chance and why? Please, we don't need the "they all suck" comments on this thread. I personally think Matt Cassel has the advantage going in because of his experience. And I believe Tyrod Taylor has an advantage over EJ Manuel because of superior scrambling abilities and arguably better NFL training. I read a lot of comments on the Stadium Wall saying EJ will rise to the top, but I am not sure why. Size and draft position doesn't mean anything at this point. The team's senior leadership is no longer tied to EJ. Before the Taylor signing, I thought EJ's advantage was his youth, mobility and unknown potential. But he lost those leverages. I am glad for that, as this competition needs to be about who actually plays the best.
  8. There are a thousand examples that show stats can be VERY misleading. Are you aware Charles Clay was voted by his peers as one of the top 100 players in the entire league in 2013? He was injured last year but played through. Wait until he is use to his full potential this year. If not, the following is definitely worth the watch for someone wondering why Clay is so highly regarded by people who actually know football and don't just dwell on stats. 'Top 100 Players of 2014': Charles Clay - NFL Videos
  9. Thanks. The Bills ran the best big nickel last season, followed by the Eagles but Chip blew that up. I agree that's likely the best tactic to use against this offense. Fortunately, not a whole lot of teams have the personnel to run it effectively. The Jets do. But that is also susceptible to the power run game, which Rex has talked about since day one, and the TE splitting the seam, as you mentioned. That's why, in my opinion, we saw the team push so hard for Clay. He was the piece that makes this offense indefensible.
  10. Maybe because you're not watching football? If you were, you'd see that Clay is far superior than Chandler. Or maybe because you don't understand stats only tell part of the story.
  11. "Old" and as unoriginal as they come. There will be a legit QB competition in camp for the first time in about eight years. Cassel won the starting job the past two season, including last year over Teddy Bridgewater. I hope one of the younger QBs can win the job, but Cassel was brought in because he is experienced, can game manage and will lead. You think they spent all this money and put their careers on the line just to put their fate in the hands of an unproven young gun? Only if that young gun really earns it.
  12. There may not be a better list of skill players in the league this coming season. Rex Ryan, looking through the eyes of a lifelong defensive mind, has brought in players who will steal entire weeks of sleep from opposing defensive coordinators all year. How does a team attempt to defend Shady McCoy, Sammy Watkins, Percy Harvin, Robert Woods, and Charles Clay all at once? Versatility is the key, as the offense will be able to respond instantly, without substitutions, to whatever the defense tries. Options have even been built in at QB, with both a pocket passer and a mobile QB added. If these players can each stay healthy and focused, there many not be a defense that can stop them all.
  13. He cannot touch #99 https://youtu.be/fL5rJ40HUKU
  14. I love that, and it illustrates what Joe Rose said in that interview: Clay improved more between year one and year two than anyone else he's ever seen.
  15. Viable prediction: Taylor wins the backup position behind Cassel. Cassel will then be injured before the halfway point, be replaced by Taylor, who will lead the Bills to an AFC Championship, becoming a national media darling and nailing down the starting position for the next 12 years. Cassel will land on IR and traded next year for a 7th. EJ will start the season as the #3 QB, but he will remain on the roster because it would cost not save on the cap to cut him, and no one is trading for him. EJ will finish the season as the #2 QB, will re-sign and be a solid backup for us for years to come.
  16. I don't think we're watching the same video then. First, the highlight reel there shows a tight end who requires gang tackling to stop, can catch balls thrown behind him but still maintains enough momentum to get great yards after catch. You may want to go back and watch the rest, especially when he takes over the Steelers game (https://youtu.be/bEGuitm67Dc?t=3m56s).
  17. Yep. Tuel will be the arm to wear out working receivers early.
  18. The Ravens knew Taylor wanted to try his chances at becoming a starter elsewhere, so they drafted his replacement last year.
  19. There is a belief among those who cover the Ravens that Taylor is capable of becoming a starter. He certainly believes that, as does most every NFL player. He did not want to stay because he knew dethroning Flacco is not possible. And with Flacco being durable, the Ravens did not get to showcase Taylor in a game that mattered.
  20. The second and third TEs are already on the roster.
  21. I doubt he signs anywhere until after camps open. He'll wait for a team needing to replace someone who gets injured in the preseason.
  22. The Saints have been quite clear that they wanted a very good center along with the 1st. They were more concerned with the center than with the draft pick. Eric Wood is a decent center, but he is not at Unger's level.
  23. Funny, I didn't see a single decent run after catch in that video. Pretty much all short TDs. Also noted this four-minute highlight reel couldn't have more than a play for every 25-30 seconds. Not much to work with, I am sure.
  24. But like I wrote above, Clay is tremendous at running after the catch, catching on the run and running over defenders. See that one TD where he dances around and breaks two sure tackles against the Steelers? Sick.
  25. His 2013 catches: The biggest thing to pop for me is that he doesn't go down on the first hit. Chandler does nearly every time.
