There is one definate positive (IMHO): there is NO WAY Wilson can ignore the situation now. After the disaster in Miami, the team comes home to lay one huge egg against a division rival. Now, the Bills head into a short week sure to end with yet another embarrasing ass kicking on primetime -- at home. Have the Bills won on primetime game since TD took the reins? Have the Bills won any game of meaning since MM took over?

Suppose you were among the pro-RJ group. How did that turn out? Maybe I should find some of his stats and post them. Note: Rob Johnson averages the most sacks per dropbacks in the history of the NFL.
-
Once again, excatly! I'd have a piss poor attitude as well if I was giving it my all, winning games, making big plays when it mattered, only to be rewarded by a coach who cannot make up his mind and continual calls from the fan base to bench me for some loser (RJ).

Exactly.

See my two posts in this thread Clearly, the team scored plenty. In 1998, the Bills' passing game ranked seventh in the NFL in TDs and 12th in yards. The Flutie-led offense had games in which they scored 26, 31, 30, 30, 34, 33, 44, and 45 points. In 1999, the team ranked 15th in passing scores.

Want some stats? He has compiled a NFL starting record of 38-28 (.576) In 1999 he set the Bills' team record for rushing yards by quarterback and led all NFL quarterbacks with 476 rushing yards. He was the fifth quarterback in pro history to surpass the 50,000 yards barrier. In 1998, as a Bill, he was named NFL Comeback Player of Year honors from Associated Press and Pro Football Weekly. Took over the starting quarterback job five games into season and led Bills to 7-3 mark in 10 regular-season starts, including a 5-1 mark at home. Posted the third and fourth highest single-game passing percentages in team history (.821) at Indianapolis Oct. 11, 1998, and (.818) at Carolina Oct. 25, 1998. Threw only 11 interceptions in 354 attempts (.0311), the lowest career mark in team history (min. 250 attempts). Earned team's Player of Week honors five times in '98. He once threw 140 consecutive passes without an nterception, the third longest streak Bills history. Even in a losing effort, he completed 21 of 36 passes for 360 yards in a Wild Card playoff loss in early 1999. In '98, he threw for 20 TDs vs. 11 Ints. In '99, he threw for 3,171 yards and ran for four TDs. How ineffective is that? Oops, I forgot to add earlier that he played in 11 games in 2000 with five starts and posted a record of 4-1 as starter. That gives him a 22-9 record as a Bill.
-
Flutie's record as a Bill: 8-3 in 1998 -- after a 1-3 start by RJ -- oh, and he made the Pro Bowl 10-5 in 1999 -- before being replaced in the first playoff game, which the Bills lost (although it wasn't RJ's fault per se) 4-1 in 2000 -- backing up RJ most of the year -- He played in 11 games in 2000 with five starts. That gives him a 22-9 record as a Bill.

What GM Would Be Interested in Buffalo
scribo replied to RochBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
OK, since Wolf is apparently uninterested in making a return to the NFL, I would like to see Ralph take a look at (in this order) Mike Reinfeldt, the Seahawks' vice president of Football Administration; Ronnie Hill, Atlanta's VP of Football Operations; or, if Modark stays on as the GM, maybe he'd consider Philly's vice president of Player Personnel, Tom Heckert, as assistant GM. -

I don't see why the Texans or Lions would be a better place to land. Detroit is quite possibly worse off economically than Buffalo, and Houston's younger guys are proving to all be busts. Wolf is retired, he didn't stick with the Browns very long, and I haven't heard any official word that he'd like to come back. I read he is living near Baltimore. I think he would be a great catch though, so I really hope Ralph is giving him a call. Wolf absoutley robbed Atlanta -- taking Brett Farve for peanuts. As the Packers' GM, he had a 92-52 regular season record -- .639 percentage; 101 total victories, including playoff games; seven straight winning seasons, 1992-98; six straight playoff appearances, 1993-98; a 53-10 record at Lambeau Field, including a 25-game home winning streak, 1995-98; back-to-back NFC championships, 1996-97; and a Super Bowl championship, XXXI. He also made several huge trades and free agency deals, including Farve, Reggie White, Amhan Green, Sean Jones, etc. -

As I just posted in another thread, I think the Bills would be very attractive to potential GM canidates. The team has some good, young talent in J.P., Evans, Takeo, McGahee, McGee, Shelton, Peters, Parrish, Schobel, Preston, and Moorman. The Bills will have some nice picks in April. Plus, the team is selling a lot of tickets, the Bills Backers thing is going well. Oh, and I think the Bills are in decent salary cap shape. If Wilson is willing to pony up, he'll get a top canidate. -
One more thought from me, even if TD hasn't been fired, Ralph making this trip and demanding he himself had to meet with Moulds is a clear no confidence vote, as I see it, and as I would think TD sees it.
-
I think the theory that TD has already been canned is very plausible. But the question has to be this -- if this is the case, what is Mr. Wilson doing right now to prepare the team for next season? He needs to be pairing a list of canidates down to just two or three right now, so hecan make a move the day after the Bills lose to the Jests. I am sure there are plenty of qualified assistant GMs in the NFL just dying for a chance to take over a team like Buffalo. The Bills have some solid, young talent (IMHO) at some key positions (QB, RB, WR, FB, DB, KR, P); they are not in cap hell; they will have some very decent draft picks in April; and they have a strong fan attendance. This is a desirable team for future GMs. I think Ralph will open that wallet and grab us the best canidate out there this offseason.
-
It is so hard to not say both, so I'll say TD -- he's had every chance. I don't think hiring MM was a product of cheapness on Ralph's part.
-
WRONG! The president doesn't pick generals. He can fire them when they make mistakes, but he doesn't pick 'em. -- TD picked his coaches. He is responsible for having a head coach who contiues to make huge "rookie mistakes." I can deal witha QB making rookie errors, but NFL teams -- good NFL teams -- don't draft coaches like players. It is very, very well documented that TD passed on excellent coaches in order to hire MM.
-
Me too, but Fossil isn't the answer, IMHO. I fully expect TD and MM to stay around yet aother year. But I would like to see Jeff Fisher in Buffalo blue next year.

Thurman, Reed, Ralph HOF semi-finalists
scribo replied to BuffMoose's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd go with: Ralph, Thurman, Derrick Thomas, Dent, Irvin, and the Snake. It would also be hard ot pass on Russ Grimm and George Young. I think Andre will have to wait another year or two. -
$20 says he doesn't write those himself. I would think he certainly reads them over before they go out, but I suspect he has the president of communications write the answers, who in turn has one of his guys write them.

So with next years Top 10 draft choice.....
scribo replied to ROCCEO's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
D'Brickashaw Ferguson is going to be a bust, I am sure of it. I REALLY hope the Bills stay away from him. So, I'd rather see the team address the o-line the second. Instead, I'd love to see our new GM select: Haloti Ngata. At 6'5" and 345lbs, Ngata is a hard-nosed monster. He punishes o-lineman and backs. Although a junior, it seems pretty certain he's going to come out. Despite getting double teamed just about every play, he has 54 tackles, including nine tackles for loss and three sacks this season. He has batted down five passes, forced and recovered a fumble, blocked two kicks and recorded a safety. I see DT as our biggest need for the draft, so this is the guy. -
Jim Kelly is innocent of any sports gambling...
scribo replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Could that rag have used a worse photo of Jim? Nope, or they would have. That is one of the dirty little tricks newspaper used all-too-often to quietly editorialize. Anyone assocaited with the paper should be pissed. I can guarantee you the editors were aware of it. If a paper wants to run a negative story about someone, they find a photo of him looking old and tired. I'm not saying they should have run a pic of Jim with some kids at his football camp -- but maybe a neutral pic of him dropping back to pass in his playing days. -
I really hope Nate sticks around too, but I don't see him getting top-three money in Buffalo. King is trying to raise Nate's price so his beloved Pats won't have to face him twice a year anymore.
-
A $9.something benchwarmer. He isn't even worth the roster spot. But let's not yell about it too loudly -- TD may be able to get a decent draft pick for him in the offseason.
-
I literally choked on my beer when he said that. We had people at out Bills Backers chapter falling off their stools, laughing so hard.. Yes, Cross really does his homework.
