This info is coming from a reporter's blog. The mention of what the Giants are willing to pay (or not willing to pay, as the case here) was in not in direct reference to McGahee. It said Reese has said earlier that he knew he needed a RB but did not want to give up a first-day pick. He did, however, say he was willing to send a package of players and a pick away for a RB. Besides, this is just the starting point and Reese has to jostle for early position no matter who is dealing with.

Simply saying that he is interested in or will be interested in a player on another team is tampering.

Thought of a very good mcgahee trade!!

Thanks, Joe. I agree with everything you wrote. I have yet to use that ignore function because it is just as entertaining to read the garbage as it is informatvie to read the thought-out posts. -
I see RB Chris Brown in Buffalo blues.

Don't you know? DJ coached anyone and everyone who ever played for the Bears. -
Bills actively shopping McGahee per ESPN.

To think, all this AFTER he was taken off The Wall's banner. -
The only thing that needs to be proved is that Reese spoke about his team's interest in another team's player. There is no question that happened, so by rule, tampering occured. I am just explainging why I feel the rule is a good one and one that needs to be enforced. You are correct that this news may very well have made its way to reporters in other ways, as it did back when the Jags' intent to trade Mark Brunell was leaked. The Jags were pissed then, but there was nothing that could be done because the media reported their info based on nameless sources. Of course, stories from nameless sources give the team the option to deny the claim, as someone would have to go on the record to beat the denial. But Reese is already on the record in this case, so the Bills are screwed.

I thought Lodon Baker-Fletcher was his, too. -
Yes, based on what Reese said, as his words tipped the press off so they started digging, and his words motivated others to speak on background about the situation. The fact of the matter is the news came out because of Reese's careless words. The NFL must take action, and the Bills must benefit from said action.

I don't want him to get a stinking fine! The Bills have a legit beef here. Tampering Jerry may very well have cause the Bills damage today. At the very least, it is now crystal clear that the Bills are unhappy with McGahee, thus pushing his value down. I want a draft pick.

Ayone else seeing Okoye going before Branch?

Olsen is too light to block. He is a slot TE only, which will keep him out of the top-15. -
Another Broncos player dies

How terrible. I really feel for his family and the team. -
It appears it is also against the rules to talk about interest in another player when that player is under contract with another team. That is supposedly enforced much more often. Either way, Reese screwed up, showing his inexperience in running a team. But "innocent mistakes" or "not knowing better" won't cut it. I would guess the Bills would have to file a complaint to get any compensation. Maybe Marv can use that threat as leverage. Reese would get eaten up in the NYC media if he lost a pick for being unfamiliar with the tampering rules.

Yes, reason. I am not going to pull teeth here. If you want people to understand your stance, you may want to explain it. You made a very simple statement, and I asked you why. I guess I should have known better. I happen to agree with you. My "reason" is that Jones has been questioned, named or arrested in connection with at least eight incidents involving police since the Titans drafted him in 2005. -
That is not what the article stated. From what I am now reading in a few different places is that the Bills are the only ones allowed to publicly break the news that they are shopping one of their players.

Thanks for that thoughtful post. Oh wait, is there a reason you think that way? -

I may be forgetting something, but I just don't recall a trade that complicated in a long time. I think Pacman is worth just as much as McGahee. There is NO WAY we get Pacman AND Brown AND a pick. That all said, if the Titans would go for the trade you just laid out, hell yeah, go for it now, Marv! Now. -
If a Willis trade doesn't work out
scribo replied to generaLee83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I no longer think McGahee is the type of guy to get motivated in that way. He pretty much had that same motivating factor going into last season, and he came up empty, apparently not even reading his playbook. -
From the NY Times today: NY Times linky So if that is true, and I would think it is, what will the NFL do about it? A trade almost has to happen now because McGahee is going to be pissed, and the team thought he wasn't studying enough before... Likewise, this hurts McGahee's value, as teams know the Bills' need to trade him just went up in a big way. Really, Jerry Reese screwed up and now owes the Bills.

Recap ... It was very short ... Take on team: Number of steps forward last year, particularly at QB. JP continually improved. We have a long way to go in JP’s development and as a team, The main goal this year is to make the playoffs. It all has to keep moving forward, and we will have to get a little lucky, too. He is very excited about the team. Draft: A lot of time until the draft. Constantly evaluating own team as well as draft prospects. All choices in last year's draft were a consensus among the main guys.

They just teased it. Said he will be on shortly. I just turned it on, so I don't know if it is a replay, but this the first night of the combine coverage, so I am hoping it is new stuff.

Great news! I was in the sand a couple of times, and we had the Pats' cheerleaders come out. It was decent, but I would have loved to the see the Jills. Of course, the Jills are not always the NFL's best looking cheerleaders. Any which way, I am glad the Jills are going.

Might he want to come be DJ's asst HC? I know he wants a lot of dough, but he will be worth it to whatever team brings him in.

I like this plan, but I don't believe the team is going to do as well in free agency as you are hoping. For all of you who just cannot figure out this amazing mathmatical riddle, junior12thman92 listed a few players more than once to show where they may fit into depth needs.

What about this guy for Right Tackle?
scribo replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Marv certainly left room for interpretation, but my take was that he was saying they are looking to give the two youngsters a shot but will at least consider bringing in someone. -
What was the purpose of Marv's presser?
scribo replied to oregonbbfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. I have to believe he has a good sized PR staff who should have really been working to ensure he was ready for every possible question that could possibly be posed. Either his staff failed him or he ignored him. I have no problem with a GM staying out of the weeds and really letting his top directors take true ownership of their responsibilities, but Marv needs to at least know the basics of each element of running the team. It makes me wonder if Marv is more of a figurehead than a real working part, providing meaningful input that is acted upon.
