Chargers need to move;propose shared LA stadium w/Raiders
Bob Lamb replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Chargers have been talking for 10+ years about a new stadium. Qualcomm is a pit - RWS on its' worst day was better. The Raiders stadium in an antiquated baseball field. The Chargers say they get 35-40 % of their money from Orange County - so fans are already driving 60-80 miles to go to a home game. If & when the Rams move to Inglewood - the Chargers would see the casual fan money diverted. Neither the Chargers or the Raiders are getting any support from the locals politicians and are floating this "trial balloon" I am no fan of public money for billionaires playpens and the myth that stadiums spur growth is largely overblown. If the Chargers/Raiders (strange bedfellows indeed), achieve the stadium in Carson it would be 70 miles from my house so about 120 miles from the South Bay (Mexican border) for the southern locals. The game day commute would be interesting, even on a Sunday. Could the Chargers/Raiders make a go of it with the Meadowlands ? Or is this just grandstanding by all parties ? -
There was some snow on Mt, San Jacinto when I drove through the I-10 pass on Super Bowl Weekend. It looked nice. What was nicer were the bikinis at the pool - It was 80+ degrees in the Valley for the Big Game

#1 Reason - Past ownership and the clan of insiders that have ruled the Bills from the time of the Super Bowls (and before) R.I.P RWS - you did it your way to which you were certainly entitled to do as it was your team If the new owners even mention bringing in A.J. Smith (in his newly minted role as a consultant) anywhere near Orchard Park - be very afraid.

What's your favorite chili recipe?
Bob Lamb replied to SageAgainstTheMachine's topic in Off the Wall Archives
For me, chili just "happens" - no real recipe *LAMP* - I won First Place (ever) in a contest last month - another one coming up in January Being in Mexicali = I have been using some chorizo, beer and mexican beans - different flavors indeed - Won't go to the chocolate side - although many do It's not about the heat (no 6 alarm here) - it's about the spice I have to make a double batch for the office party on Thursday - break out the big pot ! -
If I was head coach for a day - he woud be suspended for 1 game - this was pre-meditated and cost the team Why bad teams stay in a rut What would Bill Cowher do ?

Nothing in the works - but there are 7 games left I hear they have taken the fun out of Lot 1 - Pole 5

One of the absolute best things about a City like Buffalo - with so many many ethic "Mom & Pop" shops is the diversity As I have done more extensive traveling in the US - I find it impossible to stomach what other areas call "Buffalo" food Out here - they Call http://www.buffalowildwings.com/ fine cusine (good stock to buy) I have never liked Duff's - but others do - Anchor Bar is worth it - if you are in the neighborhood - I can name two other places I will go out of the way for - they are just corner joints in the "hood" I would cross the counrty for a Bocce Pizza - my wife and daughter say no - they wanted Leonardi's I will be in Buff next week - I will go to Mighty, Louie's, have some great (fresh) pizza on Hertel Ave and some awesome wings at Gecko's Buffalo is about something different on every corner - viva la difference Try and find that in that in the land of corporate exit ramp foodstuffs

Two supervisors at my place are Raiderfanz (and wear their colors) - they don't even dare mention Buffalo anymore The believers are out there

I had the same conversation with him more than once - drinking too Then there was the whole Bills Booster stuff ! Ask SDS about Scott Berchold. Many of us tried - and thanks to Denny and Alicia Bratten (sp ?) I was able to get a lot of info and access back in the day - but the Bills mindset was very anti - technology How else would you explain the ticket office - to this day ? Who remembers when the Bills actually tried to sell tickets in ATM style kiosks at local malls - rather than the Internet ?

Prodigy was pathetic - I was such a neophyte - but it was Ground Zero and it was fun There was BBML - wasn't sure about that and then the great Rochester D&C meltdown And then some (RIT) guy from Pembroke, NY came along - stuff happens BTW - I paid for my Chargers season tix today - I wish they were Bills ones There have been so many contributors but I nominate Deborah

Remember when Danny Neaverth and the gang at Oldies 104 did the parody songs during the Bills' Super Bowl Years? I heard "Red Rubber Ball" by the 1960's boy band, Crykle (http://www.sundazed.com/artists/cyrkle.html) last night and it triggered the memory of one of my all-time favorite parody songs. To set the scene, on December 27th, 1992 the Bills lost the season finale 27-3 to the Houston Oliers in the Astrodome. This was the first time in five years the Bills were not Divsion champions but they did qualify as a wild card team. Lo and behold the Oilers would have to travel to Buffalo the following weekend for the wild card matchup. As things happen, this truned into a memorable game - but I like the song too: Flashback to January 3, 1993 Sung to the tune of "Red Rubber Ball" "We've should have known they'd do it the hard way, We've got the Oilers once again and Houston's gonna pay. This game will be different because it's here in Buffalo, Oilers, you can't run and shoot here in the cold and snow" Chrous: "And I think we're going to blow them out Yes, the Bills will get revenge We're going to beat those Houston Oilers in Buffalo" "We've never cared for Houston all along They wear those sissy uniforms and sing that stupid song. When they play here their defense will be leaking like a sieve, A Buffalo Bills' style butt kicking is what we're gonna give." Chorus "Now last week's in the past and it's time to play football, The Bills are getting serious and their backs are to the wall. At Oldies 104 we know the Bills are gonna roll, They'll beat the Oilers on their way to a third straight Super Bowl. Chorus I'd like to credit the writer/band but no information is given

A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words
Bob Lamb replied to Bob Lamb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Must of been those years as a Bill in the 1960's! No Photoshop - right on the front page of the SD paper this AM ! Right after I tell the bandwagoneering Charger fans that Marty was a LB for the Bills from 1965-68, I then make sure to reassure them that he will break your heart with some version of Marty Ball "After college, (Pittsburgh) Schottenheimer was selected in the fourth round of the 1965 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Colts and in the seventh round of the 1965 American Football League draft by the Buffalo Bills. He signed with the Bills and spent the next three seasons with Buffalo, including the 1965 AFL Championship season. In 1969, he joined the Boston Patriots and spent the next two seasons with the Pats. He was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1971 but was traded again to the Colts before the beginning of the 1971 season. He retired from football in 1971 and spent the next several years working in the real estate industry. Schottenheimer credits his NFL career as being his inspiration for coaching." From Wikpedia -
American Express / Costco Combo 1% on anything (including gas at Costco - usually 5-7 cents cheaper than the street) 2% on travel / hotels 3% on dining out Adds up nicely and also paid at the end of the year - should be about $320 for 2006
