  1. George Will gives voice to a simmering situation http://www.suntimes.com/output/will/cst-edt-geo07.html "John Kerry's selection of John Edwards as running mate was a blunder, and not just because Kerry probably will lose Edwards' North Carolina. The Edwards selection ratifies a provocative fact: trial lawyers have become the Democrats' most important faction. This has energized small-business owners, the self-employed, doctors and others who worry that they live one lawsuit away from ruin. Such people, now aroused, may propel tort reform that will curtail the windfalls that make trial lawyers the Democrats' largest source of contributions." And from the Washington Monthly - a like item from Grover Norquist http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/features/...9.norquist.html Now, Mr. Norquist would certainly qualify as a Republican operative but is this an opening salvo against the genre of the trial lawyers ? The VP challenger skirted the issue the other night except for some reference to a lawyer "review" panel and some "three strikes" nonsense. Noto Bene: There are also Republican trial lawyers loose amongst us
  2. The vote was 402-2 and Rangle voted "no" after introducing the legislation http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/a..._co/the_draft_6
  3. One Lewis already got off in Baltimore
  4. Of course you watch the games - KC is 0-3 ?
  5. You are not the first person I heard that line from - but Bledsoe ?
  6. Goodness - i haven't looked here in over a week - but Tom That's a beauty
  7. "Put a team like we had in the 70's on the ice, and they'll sell-out every game again!" - - Oh, man ... I'd settle for having just one guy like Perreault. I remember his rookie year, there were seven guys on the roster who could boast six-foot height and over 200 pounds .... The six defensemen, and Gilbert. Remember him dropping Dave Maloney his rookie year with one punch. No one ever challenged him again. What a specimen, and such raw skaiting power. He was the greatest passer and stick handler I ever saw (until Gretzky came along) too ... 50298[/snapback] The NHL ownership through their various commissioners (and lately the great satan - Bettman) built a giant Ponzi scheme to generate expansion fees while diluting the talent pool to a level of mediocrity approached by the UB Bulls football team. Both sides want the lockout as a show of strength - the players have no leverage and the owners lose less money by NOT playing ! Who loses ? The public. Plaese support your local minor league team
  8. The Texas Rangers still own the "Senators" name - at leats legally
  9. This is probably moreso because the Patriots are in town, but it is an important early-season AFC East matchup. I for one will be watching, with a plate of wings in front of me, somewhere that has NFL Sunday Ticket. And I'll be thinking of all of you who are gonna be at the game. Well, now that the dreaded Chargers "blackout" quarantee has been lifted - we don't have to watch them but the CBS affiliate hasn't announced which the early game will be. Wings and beer (at 10 AM) don't mix - best to skip the wings and have some egg sandwiches (with the beer - of course)
  10. "Also they could put all of the power lines under ground so they dont get knocked out during hurricanes." Placing power lines underground is unfeasible in older neighborhoods as the ground water is a constant problem My sisters' 34 year old house stood through both hurricanes with nary a scratch - hurricane shutters and a solid house DO matter. Falling trees also create all kind of problems just like in Santa Anna winds or NE icestorms.
  11. Hundreds of Professional Hockey players in our very own nation are going to be locked out, living at well below the seven-figure salary level. And as if that weren't bad enough they could be deprived of their life-giving pay for several months, possibly longer, as a result of the coming lockout situation. But you can help! For only $20,835 a month, about $694.50 a day (that's less than the cost of a large screen projection TV) you can help an NHL player remain economically viable during his time of need. This contribution by no means solves the problem as it barely covers the annual minimum salary, but it's a start, and every little bit will help! Although $700 may not seem like a lot of money to you, to a hockey player it could mean the difference between spending the lockout golfing in Florida or on a Mediterranean cruise. For you, seven hundred dollars is nothing more than a month's rent, half a mortgage payment, or a month of medical insurance, but to a hockey player, $700 will partially replace his daily salary. Your commitment of less than $700 a day will enable a player to buy that home entertainment center, trade in the year-old Lexus for a new Ferrari, or enjoy a weekend in Rio. HOW WILL I KNOW THAT I'M HELPING? Each month, you will receive a complete financial report on the player you sponsor. Detailed information about his stocks, bonds, 401(k), real estate, and other investment holdings will be mailed to your home. In addition, upon signing up for this program, you will receive an unsigned photo of the player lounging during the lockout on a beach somewhere in the Caribbean (for a signed photo, please include an additional $150). Put the photo on your refrigerator to remind you of other peoples' suffering. HOW WILL HE KNOW I'M HELPING? Your NHL player will be told that he has a SPECIAL FRIEND who just wants to help in a time of need. Although the player won't know your name, he will be able to make collect calls to your home via a special operator in case additional funds are needed for unforeseen expenses. YES, I WANT TO HELP! I would like to sponsor a locked out NHL player. My preference is (check below): [ ] Forward [ ] Defenseman [ ] Goaltender [ ] Entire team (Please call our 900 number to ask for the cost of a specific team - $10 per minute) [ ] Jaromir Jagr (Higher cost: $32,000 per day) Please charge the account listed below $694.50 per day for the duration of the lockout. Please send me a picture of the player I have sponsored, along with an Jaromir Jagr 2001 Income Statement and my very own Bob Goodenow (Executive Director of the NHLPA player's Union) pin to wear proudly on my hat (include $80 for hat). Your Name: _______________________ Telephone Number: _______________________ Account Number: _______________________ Exp.Date:_______ [ ] MasterCard [ ] Visa [ ] American Express [ ] Other Signature: _______________________ Alternate card (when the primary card exceeds its credit limit): Account Number: _______________________ Exp.Date:_______ [ ] MasterCard [ ] Visa [ ] American Express [ ] Other Signature: _______________________
