Bob Lamb replied to Bob Lamb's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Silly Rabbit ! Of course not I'll speak for NYS and California - both raid the "highway" fund -
And...the other shoe drops.

But don't you read Dale Brown & Larry Bond books ? -
I wonder what a "poll" back then consisted of ?

Have a will and living trust drawn up by a professional Sure - it's off his computer software but he knows the relavent state laws and your heirs will thank you (tax wise) when that time comes Don't forget the health care provisions We had one done about three years ago - $650 in CA - when we just established our Roth IRA's - the trust made everything easier

My parents allowed me to get a job at 15 - what were working papers ? Corner drug store - $1.55 hr (1972) - worked there almost two years and learned many life lessons. I spent much time in the restaurant business - I tried to get my daughter to be a waitress at a friend's place - she declined. If there is one job that will teach you about life and people - it's in a restaurant. The work may be hard but the lessons are invaluable.

Minimum wage is a givernment construct with absolutely no meaning Minimum wage is for workers breaking into the job market at the beginning levels. It was never intended to be a "living" wage for a family of 4 in N. America. Before I left Buffalo where the minimum wage still hovered aroun $6 - I had contacts in N. Indiana and Boston telling me about $10 - and jobs going begging. Minimum wage is market driven - supply and demand Right now - we are paying our temps $10 - $11 hour (DOE) and the bottom of the barrel ain't pretty plus turnover is a constant battle Most of them are youngsters with a bare work ethic - must be parents telling them to "go get a job"

Safe trip - I hope to make Buffalo for July 4th No one speaks spanish in your neighborhood - eh ?

My daughter had an allowance and at 17 when she whined about more $$ - I did what my folks did - told her to get a "job". She complained that she had no car - so I explained there were plenty of businesses within reasonable walking distance. More whining - but her paycheck taught her valuable lessons that keep on teaching. She'll be 25 this year - and already owns her own condo and is looking at new(ish) cars. Even better - when she became a full-time taxpayer - she found out what that whole "voting" thing was about

It's a two part statement - 1. There are jobs Americans will do 2. There are jobs that illegal immigrants will do for far less than prevailing and/or minimum wage because what they face at home (wherever that is) is far-far worse. The Mexican economy would collapse tomorrow if funds sent from north of the border stopped. It is an indictment of the Mexican government that they rely on funds from somewhere else to prop themsleves up. But hey, Mexico has no capitalistic impulse - PEMEX could (and is) holding Mexico afloat - but even at a time of record crude oil prices http://www.mexidata.info/id300.html

Any owner (even RW) only cares that every seat is sold - doesn't really matter if a fanny is in it, although that means some extra $$$ from concessions. The sold seat is his revenue - an empty seat = zero dollars. Every NFL team has made a profit on opening day - the whole "collective" revenue thing (and TV) makes that a done deal. What individual teams do after that can add or subract from that money. But they have already made their year - and the salary cap helps quarantee that. Now the hypocrisy of the system - Last season Dallas opened at the Chargers. The Chargers sold approx. 19-20K new season tickets based upon their strong showing in 2004. (The previous 2003 season - two games sold out - in 2005 every game sold out). The day after the Dallas game the papers and radio waves were full of angst because so many Cowboy fans were in the stands while loyal Charger fans were locked outside the gates. Team representatives were quoted as saying they were looking at ways to manage the unfair situation. The same scenario occurs every year when Raider fans take over Mission valley. Oddly enough by Week 6 - season ticket holders were getting promotional mailings from the Chargers - endorsing Stub.Hub - and the team also featured it on their web site. The Chargers also allow season ticket holders to digitally sell their tickets through Ticketmaster up to two hours before the game. Don't cry for me The sad thing is that the Bills ticket office remains so far behind the times Is Jerry Foran still in charge ? -
From The Archives - The Bills sign linebacker, Chris Spielman on March 19, 1996 as an unconditional free agent (4 years - $8 Million - $2M signing bonus). Chris addressed the reporters, "If I ever lie down on the football field, one of you guys get your hunting rifle out and put me out of my misery" How did he feel about moving outdoors after eight seasons under the Pontiac Silverdome ? "I've long stated that domed stadiums were kind of a communist plot to weaken us mentally. Now if we get rid of the Astroturf, we'll really be in shape." The Bills re-sign QB, Alex Van Pelt to a four year deal. The package is worth $1.57 Milllion of which $400K is a signing bonus. Alex had made the league minimum of $165K in 1995 and was an exclusive rights free agent. Van Pelt had apparently overtaken Todd Collins as the Bills #2 QB with a stellar performance in last season's finale loss against Houston (10 for 18, 106 yards and 2 TD's). AVP also threw a TD pass after relieving Jim Kelly in the Pittsburgh playoff game. John Butler said, "He (AVP) performed admirably when he had his chance. Now there's a chance for him to compete with Todd. And with three years to go on Todd's contract, we've got two young guys tied up for a while behind our great starter." April 11, 1996 - Andre Reed returns to Buffalo for a workout. The free agent had suffered a serious hamstring injury in 1995 and did not play until the last two games of the season. He did not work out for any teams during the initial free agent period as he did not feel ready. The Bills had already signed FA Quinn Early and had Russell Copeland, Chris Brantley and Steve Tasker on the WR roster. Reed had made $1.5 milllion the previous season while Early was signed to a $2.2 million per annum deal. Reed ran routes and caught passes from Todd Collins under the watchful gazes of Butler, Levy and assistant coaches. The Bills' hierarchy left with no comments. Andre said it was strange for an 11-year veteran to try out for his own club. The Bills are focusing on speed and sacks fpr the upcoming draft. They expect that Keyshawn Johnson, Terry Glenn, Marvin Harrisson and Eric Moulds will be gone before their #24 pick. That leaves them looking at Derrick Mayes, Eddie Kenninson and Alex Van Dyke. Larry Felser speculates the Harrisson is the best fit. Kenninson is really a junior and neither Moulds or Mayes have the potential as a return man. On defense, the Bills are looking at Greg Myers (Alcorn St.) or Israel Ifeanyi (Washington)

If ignorance is bliss - whay are there so many unhappy people ?

And all that coverage gives us the opportunity to see all the warts, scabs and blemishes of the system. Sometimes, too much information is a bad thing. So, while Mr. Bonds whines about his life, I wonder how the wonderfully self-abusive Babe Ruth would have fared in today's media enviorment ?

Back at ya ! The owner of our host bar "Madd Bailey's" is a transplanted limey - with a misquided affection for the Somabitch Raiders I'm sure he's got a Guiness stashed somewhere - let's see that's about a seven hour difference - so the Bills #8 should be somwhere around 9:30 PM your time. We're thinking of you

Mort says Brees is in Miami right now
Bob Lamb replied to Stl Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The QB situation in SD makes no sense. There is an unresolved power struggle between Marty-two shoes and AJ. Spanos called the boys in and told them to play nice. Current evidence indicates no progress - they have $20 Mil to spend. For a team that needs winning seasons to justify the public ballot vote on a new stadium - they are doing everything wrong -
