Out of curiosity, when you have Josh Allen at QB and face the below, what do you expect the outcome to be? It's silly for either side of the argument to keep pretending no argument exists. If you want to disagree, so be it, but valid points on each side.

QB"s with at least 2 starts since 2020

    Miami

    Tua Tagovailoa

    Jacoby Brissett

    Ryan Fitzpatrick

    Teddy Bridgewater

    Skylar Thompson

    Tyler Huntley

    New York

    Aaron Rodgers

    Zach Wilson

    Trevor Siemian

    Tim Boyle

    Mike White

    Joe Flacco

    Sam Darnold

    New England

    Cam Newton

    Drake Maye

    Jacoby Brissett

    Mac Jones

    Bailey Zappe

Many experts didn’t pick the Bills to win the AFC East the last 2 years but they did.

Take 2024 out it might be even better.

They regress considerably in the playoffs though. But we sit here and talk about the Bills like they’re a bad team besides Allen. It’s not the case at all.

The Bills have had a good overall team. Team being the key word. Individual players may be lacking but they play as a cohesive unit.

System and DT because we have high Caliber guys playing out of position because McD is playing his own game while everyone else plays chess.....

Bills defense is generally pretty good. Last year was an expected fall.

I do think the system limits players statistically. The Bills defense was 4th in sacks in 2023.

Im not sure what we complain about here in Buffalo. A lot of teams would love to have our defensive success.

  4. Would you do this?

Bills can sign Cook by adding 2-3 void years at the end of the contract to spread out the cap hit. You could keep the cap hits pretty low but you’d have a big cap charge if Cook gets released of walks in free agency at the end of the deal.

So basically you keep Cook at a low cap number and go for a Super Bowl for 3-4 years.

I think the Bills have to think about doing these types of deals as we’re basically in the middle of Allen’s prime years. We can’t worry too much about cap ramifications 4-5 years from now.

I think I would do 1 of 2 things. Pay cook and add multiple void years to keep the cap low or just go with cheap RBs by committee. I wouldn’t trade Cook and also draft another RB in the 2nd round. Either spend assets on RB or don’t. If you draft another RB high in the draft you’re still using valuable assets.

A better example is McDuffie. He is better CB than Elam, don't think more playing time gets Elam to that level.

I do agree that if  Kincaid had he been TE1 would have had better numbers. I still not so sure he becomes an elite TE.

I’m not a scout and I don’t consider myself one, but I thought Elam showed flashes as a rookie. He’s made some big plays, game saving plays. But for whatever reason the coaches always put Dane Jackson out there instead.

This year Elam just looked bad. Confidence was lost.

They may have played better. I don't see either one being that game breaker that La Porta or Sauce Gardiner has shown to be.

Kincaid had one of best rookie TE seasons ever.

I think if Kincaid was the clear TE1 last year he would’ve had monster numbers. His 2nd year he battled injuries and split time all season.

Sauce is a top 5 pick.

There is two sides to it. The king is great at developing early round picks and is probably better then most teams do. They tend to become good players. Which is great in keeping the team competitive year and year out.

What they haven't been good at is finding that high end talent in the first rounds that other teams do. You need those playmakers to win a Super Bowl.

I wonder where Kincaid and Elam are today if they started day 1. Elam has regressed sitting on the bench. Kincaid’s best play came when Dawson Knox was injured.

Yes you are perhaps describing a player development issue moreso than a talent acquisition/scouting issue.  And you could say the same thing about Beane’s free agent signings - many of them have been slow to acclimate on the field.  Player development and scouting/pro personnel are related but not the same.  Perhaps they’re doing some self-scouting in that regard by firing Ciano or perhaps that is totally unrelated - but on-field player development has lagged behind much of the rest of the McBeane sectors.

Do we compare this to the league though? I think we’re too critical.

McDermott is a coach that thought Nathan Peterman was good enough to start in the NFL. Multiple times.

We went into Josh Allen's rookie season with a QB depth chart of:

    1) Peterman

    2) Allen

    3) No one. We didn't have a 3rd QB on the roster

It's almost like we were intentionally sabotaging Allen's career/development.

Obviously none of us will ever know how much of Allen's development was his own vs coaching, but my money would be on Allen and not the coaches.

AJ McCaron was the choice but got hurt. Only thing sabotaged was the Bills chances to win that game vs Baltimore. Allen probably starts from week 1 if they didn’t open on the road in Baltimore. Peterman was sacrificed.

I think QBs become great in the offseason. That’s when they can work on their mechanics and improve. Allen put in the time and work to develop. He worked with his own throwing coach to improve his mechanics.

The Bills facilitated the development. Good defense, added Diggs, stable environment. Allen put in the work to develop and become great.

We will never know what really is the most important part of a QBs development. I think it’s more on the player. If it was more on the organization, head coach, and OC then Mac jones should be winning Super Bowls right now. I think it’s the player. But I do believe you have to put the structure and pieces around the QB so they can actually reach that potential.

Nobody denies he's done great things for this team. He also has his faults too. The whole front office has faults and that's what Monos was pointing out.

Instead of talking about those, many dismiss it cause it was from a guy who was a failure.

Yes, no franchise is perfect. But people need to respect what McDermott has done a little more IMO. Firing him for not making a Super Bowl is insane.

I actually believe he is the reason Allen had a chance to develop into what he is. Ultimately Allen’s work ethic and determination got him to where he’s at but McDermott’s organizational structure allowed Allen to develop.

  11. If people wonder why I defend Sean McDermott. Here’s Whaley and Jim Monos to tell you why.

Sean McDermott built everything. King McDermott. I’ve been saying it for a while. I never knew this video existed.

Listen at 1:15 in. Monos talks about McDermott tearing everything down. It’s relevant today as McDermott just fired Eric Ciano who was hired during the Whaley/Monos era.
