The level of input that Allen had looks appropriate to me.

Clearly Beane, and the rest of the NFL, judged Worthy/Pearsall/Legette/Coleman/McConkey/Polk to be about the same talent level. Those 6 WRs were all picked between 28th and 37th overall.

We even traded down two different times before selecting Coleman.

Josh was talking about Keon Coleman way before that. Made me nervous. Loved his basketball background. Then we get to Keon on the Bills and we have Josh throwing up jump balls to Keon all the time.

They mentioned on WGR this a.m. that he's the third oldest starting QB in the AFC behind Mahomes and Burrow. That's nuts. Nuts that all three of them are in that spot so young. Of course could change with some teams QB spots in flux.

Edit* Burrow is younger than Allen, so I have no idea where they got this info from. Is Allen really the 2nd oldest starting QB in AFC as of now?

If you went off of locked in starters it should make sense. AFC is mostly younger highly drafted QBs.

    Not at all.

When you follow Buffalo sports this has been the inevitability many times.

Stars leave to try and win elsewhere (Sabres recently).

I don't blame Josh if say he gets to the end of his current deal, he's 32-years old, at that point he's paid by the franchise 11-seasons (2018-2028) and says I have to try something else.

After this season he's already given the franchise his entire 20's.

    2025, 2026, 2027, 2028 - That is a long time if McDermott and Beane can't win a Super Bowl.

We have a winner. Comparing the worst team in the NHL to the Bills. This is exactly what I’m talking about.

500 Million $ deal incoming to keep him here for 9 more years

He’s still got 4 years left. I doubt the Bills continue on the same path for 4 more years.

It would be one of the craziest runs in sports. 9 straight division titles and never advancing to a championship? I just don’t see it happening. I guess it’s possible because the AFC East isn’t even close to the Bills yet.

He's not wrong. Yes, this organization drafted and gave him his chance, but he has been let down too often. He has never had a defense he can trust as we continue to draft d-lineman that are projects, undersized, or reaches. Outside of Diggs, his receiving options have been bottom third of the league.  It would be devastating to lose Josh but look at it this way. If at your job you are constantly overperforming, top in your field and earning your company tons of profits would you stick around when they cannot or fail to give you what you deserve?

This is so wrong. Never had a defense? Let down? They literally let Josh pick his WRs. They let him pick his OC.

Is this a Bills board or a Bengals board?

People have got to get over this. Josh Allen controls a lot. Especially on offense. He said all offseason how much he loved Mack Hollins. Before camps started he was raving about Mack Hollins. Guess what WR lead us in snaps? Mack Hollins.

Josh Allen has it great here. He had a great offensive line. He’s had one of the best defenses in the league. He has an owner that spends money.

If Josh wanted a new head coach McDermott would be gone.

Exactly.  We have a number of players that can be restructured including Josh.  God knows they’ve done that enough with Mahomes.  I’m going to keep banging the drum of Garrett, and if not Crosby.  Beane has proven time and time again, he stinks at picking DE’s.  We need to buy one.  We can save $8 mil. By cutting Von.  Von was a good idea, but since his injury, he’s only soaringly helped in 2024, and not at all in 23.

We can draft one of the many beast DT’s in the draft as that draft is deep.

Let’s get the big fish but we should at least get something comparable to Leonard Floyd. They need to add a good edge player and a good 1 tech.

I do.  The only thing I don't like is the % gets skewed with 90 players vs 53.

I just look at the position and the player. Like for Josh Allen I predict his deal will be 23% of the cap whenever he signs.

  8. 7 minutes ago, ColoradoBills said:

When are fans going to realize that when you give more money to EVERY NFL TEAM.  All that happens is the cost of every player you

want to sign goes up.  It does not allow any 1 team to sign more or better players.

Key is to look at cap % when looking at contracts. Take James Cook. $15 million this year is not the same as $15 million last year. You have to take cap increases into account.

Unlike what people seem to think the Bills are very tight vs the cap and they don't have as much manipulation available this year.   Extending Edwards kicks the can down the road for a JAG OG, I dont think that is a good move...you limit yourself tomorrow for not a good reason.   I think he is easily replaceable.   You draft and develop for a reason....when will Grable or Anderson get their shot if everyone is extended?

Kick the can down the road. It’s not a big can. Kick it. Edwards is a Kromer guy. There’s no reason not to extend him.  Keep the OL a strength. Anderson is locked in.

I’m not sure this is true. Everyone thought Jacksonville was the place to go after Lawrence’s first year, Houston was the place to go last offseason, the list goes on and on…I’m not sure Garrett wants to go somewhere where he’s depending on a guy who might be a 1 year thing

Philly doesn’t make sense either. He has said his choice is to go somewhere to get them over the hump. To me it sounded like Buffalo. All the talk of Buffalo needing a star and then he said that.

    We will see.

It’s higher than what was anticipated.  The anticipated amount was $275M.

There were some high end estimates as high as $285 but this number is a good increase.

Good but I want more. For all the streaming packages I’ve purchased it should be $285m. Maybe a bigger jump next season.

some interesting chatter I heard from some NFL experts (in person) - a team just may talk to Cleveland and take Watsons contract straight up if the include Garrett. Think about it... it’s actually a good deal. You squash Watson but get Garrett for same $ you would need to give him anyway, but you don't lose any draft capital. Cleveland is happy. Win win and reset for the Browns. You could negotiate the amount left on Watson so Browns eat some of it potentially.

The Bills could get creative. Send a pick to a 3rd team to take on Watson’s contract.

Trade for Garrett and pay him league minimum for 5 years.  But give him $200 million guaranteed and a cereal named after him.  Pegula has the cash.

    Genius.

Forgot the key to the city.

I fear this too. Washington has cap and is now a place players want to be.

If Washington takes on Watson’s contract.

  13. Just now, Matt_In_NH said:

that would be an option too....how about trade him?  Again Edwards is somewhat expendable in some eyes because the next man up is on the roster and cheap so you are not creating a hole like you woudl be if you release Daquon Jones

He’s our most consistent OG right now. Extend him a year or 2. Sign Alec Anderson next year. Then decide on what OGs to keep in 2 years. Torrence isn’t a lock to me. His price tag will be a lot higher than the other two and I don’t know if he’s worth it yet. No need to create a possible problem.

If a team wants Edwards as part of a trade for a bigger piece or to move up then I would consider it.

Another thing is we’ve been extremely lucky with injuries on the OL. I would rather have Alec Anderson ready to go off the bench.

Those were the two that jumped out at me also. I haven’t “graded out” Epenesa but he does make some splash plays occasionally and seems to be a decent value at that number.

There has to be a bad GM out there that will look at Epenesa having 18 sacks the last 3 years and want to trade a lower mid round pick for him.

Epenesa is also the type of young player that could be used in a packaged trade. Either for another player or to trade up.

Joe Marino made a case to cut Edwards.  Not for his play but just because the pipeline of talent is there with Anderson and grable and it saves money.

I would rather extend Edwards. Can lower his cap his substantially.

And that is a conundrum: Why didn't a guy who has had above-average success in two other places ever see the field in Buffalo? And the same with Tim Settle; he had a fantastic year in Houston. ????

I’m not sure. I believe Rousseau would shift inside sometimes once Von Miller returned. They had Floyd, Rousseau, Von/Epenesa all out there. They were 4th in sacks that year so maybe they should focus on getting another Leonard Floyd type, it worked. Hard to complain.

We also had a a lot of DTs. Oliver, Settle, Phillips, Jones (when healthy), Linval Joseph, and Ford. We had a lot of DL. Ford seemed to be mostly insurance. When he did play he didn’t take anyone’s job.

Since 2019 the Bills have played 9 playoff games that were not against KC, allowing only 19.2 points per game and having a record of 7-2.

Since 2019 the Bills have played 4 playoff games against KC allowing a whopping 35 Points per game and an 0-4 record.

The problem with the Defense is against only 1 team.

    It's a significant, over a 15.8 point game swing.

Yes! But they’ll say look at the QB’s in the other playoff games.

Belichick has lost playoff games to Ryan Tannehill and Mark Sanchez. Andy Reid has lost playoff games to Jake Dellhome, Kerry Collins, and Brad Johnson.

Another thing I think is true. The Chiefs for whatever reason get up for the Bills like no other team. I don’t know if the Bills just believe the Chiefs are going to do the same stuff they did in the regular season, but they tend to save their best for the Bills playoff matchup.

I do feel like there’s something to them creating game winning plays off of plays from the first matchup. Also Mahomes seems to run more vs us in the playoffs. Mahomes running is what really wins them the game.

For example, first matchup Mahomes had zero rushes. AFC championship game he had 11 for 43 yards and 2 TDs.

In hindsight do you feel the experts were totally off base or we overachieved?

I always said McDermott would’ve still won a couple division titles even without Allen, that’s what I think of the division we play in.

But they’ve also beat the Chiefs 4 straight times in the regular season so I don't think the Bills are only strong due to a weak division.

We use the Chiefs playoff losses to diminish everything good the Bills have done. I don’t understand why. When we were losing we made excuses for why we were losing. Now when we are winning we make excuses for why we are winning.

You have a team that has been successful on offense because of Josh Allen and successful on defense because of Sean McDermott. It’s that simple. They’ve been a very good team.

We can talk playoff losses to the Chiefs and Bengals all day if we want but let’s not make it more than it is.
