  1. The timing of this extension is odd, so it makes me think it’s Hopkins related. But fans don’t seem to think a pass rusher is as important. It may be more important. The Chiefs also are after a pass rusher. I think this move could’ve been done now to secure one of them. Especially if they’re planning on Von missing 4 games.
  2. Now go read some contracts. Chris Jones will get $25 million a season. Oliver got exactly what he should get. He got an average contract.
  3. Right. They can structure it many ways. But this example shows they can save $7.7 million if they structure it like that.
  4. They can do whatever they want with $8 million in cap space. I think they want to add a pass rusher.
  5. Depends. Could be around $8 million in space depending on how they structure Oliver’s deal.
  6. So the Bills could clear $7 million or so in cap space with this extension. I’m guessing they use it on another signing.
  7. Gun to my head I’m taking the average DT over Edmunds.
  8. You have to make difficult decisions as a GM and this was a difficult decision. They decided to keep him. A 3rd round pick doesn’t help us cap wise right now. They had to sign or trade him for cap purposes. It wasn’t really about his play.
  9. This the best roster the Bills have constructed under McDermott/Beane and it’s only going to improve once they add an edge or Hopkins. It might be their best team but they might got 10-7 due to schedule. This team will be better constructed for the playoffs.
  10. Another way to look at it. DT signings this year Simmons 4 years 94 million Payne 4 years 90 million Lawrence 4 years 87.5 million Hargrove 4 years 84 million Oliver 4 years 68 million Wilkens and Williams will be in the $90 million range. He didn’t get close to what the top DTs are getting in this new market.
  11. Why? They’re better than last year. The roster is much better.
  12. Ok, so you’re saying Diggs wouldn’t have a trade market next year?
  13. What I’m saying is you wouldn’t release him in either scenario. You would trade Diggs next year if we were rebuilding. Probably not even close. Ertz thread was massive.
  14. Doubt it. Only if the defense struggles. Olive typically is unnoticeable in games, good or bad. I’m probably the biggest Oliver skeptic on this board. People don’t like when I criticize him, at least in the past. Poona and Jones already signed.
  15. Again, top WR’s don’t. They don’t get released. It’s a major red flag. I personally think he’s still good but the league is speaking loudly. He should still sign a WR2 contract. But if we’re thought of as a number 1 he’d be on a team now and wouldn’t have been released. Diggs is WR1 almost 30. Would you release him next year because of age and contract?
  16. definitely related. Yes please!
  17. Top WRs don’t sit on the open market and get released.
  18. Can’t look now, have to look in the future. Looking now is how gauge the market. He was getting at least $17 million based on market now. In the next 1-2 years this deal will be in the 20’s ranked.
  19. Could literally create the money to sign Hopkins or edge. We’ll see. Timing is interesting. Also signing Oliver and not Davis is interesting. Albert Breer is tight with Beane. 😳
  20. The contract isn’t bad at all. It’s market value for an average starting DT. There will be like 10DTs that pass him over the next 2 years.
  21. This signing could potentially lead to a Hopkins or edge signing.
  22. They had to sign him or trade him. I feel better about Oliver now than before. You can’t have a guy eating $10 million that you don’t want to sign. They did that with Edmunds last year. Big mistake.
  23. Interesting. I predicted Gabe Davis. But I knew one of Oliver or Davis would be signed. I now wonder if they don’t do both. My position on Oliver was trade him or sign him. I’m guessing they get some cap relief now.
