Salary cap question, Leonard Floyd’s dead cap
Buffalo_Stampede replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
They’re fine cap wise with Miller, Diggs, and White likely off the books in the next year or 2. Gotta hit on rookie WR and a rookie DL in the next 2 years. -
Salary cap question, Leonard Floyd’s dead cap
Buffalo_Stampede replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
I spent a few minutes looking it up and realized Floyd only had about $3 million cap hit in 2023. So the remaining cap hit was just his 2023 salary. It makes more sense now. That $4.3 should actually be looked at as savings from last years cap. It was just pushed to this year. They could/will probably do the same thing this year. Sign a veteran with a cap hit of around $3 million and push 4-5 million into 2025. Yes realize that now. Beane’s job is safe. -

It’s a great way to manipulate the cap but there’s no way Beane is re-signing Leonard Floyd. If he does he literally wasted $4.3 million. My guess is Von Miller will get Floyd’s snaps and they will draft depth. -

It’s real, but very flexible. You have to be careful pushing back money on players you don’t view as multiple year players. -

The $4.3 with Floyd hurts most because he’s actually a player many thought would return. I don’t think the Bills would take on $4 million and then sign him later. -

Yikes. So technically whatever we sign him to later you can basically add $4.3 million to it. That would be terrible cap management by Brandon Beane. Doubt they’ll extend him today. Im guessing they won’t be bringing Floyd back. Should’ve extended him. -
Leonard Floyd’s contract voids today. Costing us $4.3 in dead cap space for 2024. If we re-sign him later does that erase the dead cap?

Is it time to grow concerned about Greg Rousseau?

Diggs is then the most overrated and overpaid player on the team. -

One thing I notice about Bills fans is we have zero respect for what the defense has done under McDermott and Frazier over the years. Probably due to how they’ve performed in the playoffs. I am a leader here as I don’t think the defensive line steps up in the playoffs. But we definitely have no respect for the defense in general. Even though they’re statistically one of the best defenses in the NFL since McDermott was hired. We think McDermott, Frazier, and pretty much the entire defense sucks. This is another thread about how the defense isn’t good enough basically. -

It also depends on who else they have. Right now there’s no one but Rousseau. -

It’s a very small sample size. He did have a good game which helped his rate. -

You’re missing the point that great edge players will be making $30+ million in 2 years. I actually don’t want him to have that 1 elite year before signing his deal. -

“Non difference makers” Team was one of the best pass rushing teams in the league. He was our best edge pass rusher and only plays 60% of the snaps. He’s 23 years old. He’s our best edge pass rusher and he’s an even better run defender. Youre letting that guy walk. The 2nd most important position in the NFL you’re trading for a 3rd round comp pick. He’s literally our best edge player. Have fun replacing him. Edmunds was an easily replaceable position. Plus he was a below average player. There’s no comparison. -

How do you watch him and not think he’s worth the money? And he’s a better run defender than pass rusher. -

Thats a ridiculous value. -

So you’re only extending great players. Got it. The top edge players will be topping out in the $30+ millions. There’s going to be a shift in the middle tier edge players. They will be $20 million players. Rousseau is exactly the type of player you extend. -

Not going to argue. I think Rousseau is a much better player after year 3 than Oliver was. Rousseau is just good at everything. Rousseau is not average. Thats your problem. You draft good players and extend good players. Especially at positions of QB and edge. -

Oliver didn’t have a good game. KC has a great interior. They won that battle for sure. -

lol. Do people not know the best edge players are getting more than twice that? I don’t know how some people here would even build a team. You don’t get better letting a player like Rousseau walk. He has zero weaknesses. He’s a $20+ million edge player easily. He’s not a $30 million edge player. Parsons will get $30+ million. I thought he had his best playoffs. No one else showed up on the DL. -

So you only want great players, rookies, or aging vets? No good players or middle players? You also have to account for position. Edmunds played a position easily replaced. You can’t just replace Rousseau. Like I said his pressure rates are better than his sack rates. The sacks will probably come, but even if he averages 6-8 sacks every year he’s worth the contract because he does everything. You need both Floyd and Rousseau. No, Epenesa is no where near Rousseau as a player. -

4 years 96 million. By the time the contract kicks in he’d probably be around 15-20th highest paid edge. The problem is if Rousseau has an elite season we might see that number jump closer to $30 million per year. Thats when the decision gets harder because he’d just have that 1 elite season. -

I think it’s possible this will be a change moving forward next year out of need. We won’t have the depth along the DL. -

Montez Sweat deal. Yes. Position flexibility is another plus with Rousseau. -

Yes, you pay Rousseau. He checks all the boxes for someone you extend. Production, potential, and position. His pressure rate is better than his sack rate. Plus he defends the run. He also has untapped potential. Very young player. He plays an important position that’s not easily filled.
