Tasker & Chris Brown on Bills CB’s for 2024
Buffalo_Stampede replied to Warriorspikes51's topic in The Stadium Wall
Why do people care where Douglas plays? He’d likely be the new Hyde. Hyde lines up at multiple positions during games. Douglas wouldn’t be coming off the field in this scenario. Elam is a starting CB. He needs to play. He’s our number 4 CB because the Bills have had 4 starting boundary CBs. They need to play their 1st round pick. They didn’t draft him to be depth. He has elite #1 CB ability. He’s a man CB. -

Why? Because they spent a 1st round pick on a CB that is good and needs to play. And Douglas is 30 with position flexibility and we want him on the field. -

You’re getting names mixed up. Douglas is 30 next season with a year remaining. The extension I suggested for Douglas was 2 years $25 million. Thats in line with what good 30 year old CB’s get. So he’s not getting low balled. Safety is an important position on the Bills and Douglas could slide into Hyde’s role. Douglas is more of a zone CB. Bills look to want to switch to more man. -

Benford isn’t moving. Douglas is 30 with 1 year left. Extension could be similar to what he’s making now. If the Bills are trying to play more man in 2024 it makes sense. -

The defense is set for rebuild. Everyone hoping for heavy offense aren’t really paying attention to the roster. Yes they will draft WR but expect most of the draft picks to be defense. They will build the defense around Oliver, Rousseau, Bernard, and Benford. Milano and Johnson I believe get extensions and stick around into their 30’s. DaQuan Jones I think gets re-signed also and will be part of the new over 30 club with Milano and Johnson. Edge is a position of concern moving forward on defense. I don’t know exactly what they do there. It would be nice to hit on someone in the draft to pair with Rousseau. I know fans are tired of drafting edge in the 1st-2nd but it’s a premier position of need for the Bills. Now and the future. Im not too worried about safety because they aren’t very expensive in free agency if we need to go that route. -

Tasker knows something to say that. Douglas is the perfect candidate to switch to safety. Packers actually talked about doing it. Sign Douglas to an extension and then switch him to safety. Sign Douglas to maybe a 2 year extension around $20-25 million. -
You can see it. Look at the contracts. Allen, Diggs, White, and Miller eat the majority of the future cap. Allen will get an extension, which will lower his cap hits significantly for many years. Diggs, White, and Miller will likely be off the roster by 2026. Ideally you replace Diggs with a rookie contract over the next 2 drafts. WR1 is the position I’m worried about replacing over the next 2 years. They really have to hit on a WR this year or we might be trying to find one in free agency or trade and that will cost a lot of cap plus draft picks if we trade for 1.
-
Thats after the Saints did a lot of restructuring. Bills haven’t started yet. The key to pushing cap back is doing it with under 30 players that are good. Bills are in good shape moving forward.

He wants to be traded. -
They can get any player they want. Just because a player has a $25 million per year average doesn’t mean their cap hit is $25 million. Look at future Bills contracts. They really don’t have any must sign players coming up. No elite players due a contract soon. They have the ability to get out of 3 huge contracts over the next couple years, Miller, Diggs, and White. So they have room for a big contract backloaded. Like last year they were in a similar situation but still gave Ed Oliver 4 years $68 million. His 1st year cap # was $5 million or so. Von Miller’s $120 million contract was also $5 million in year 1. Deonte Harty’s $10 million deal was $4 million year 1. It’s all about years and structure. Bills can do anything they want, just push big cap to the future.
-
But they could’ve done this anyway. The biggest thing it changes is future cap management. They likely projected where the cap would be 2-3 years down the road. Now they have a better idea. Still probably doesn’t change much. Josh Allen just became a $60+ million QB with this news.
-
To me it doesn’t change a whole lot. Most of the moves that got us to $25 under were simple moves that the Bills make no matter what. Also we have to remember that contracts are mostly done by cap %. Meaning every player in the league just got a raise also. Cap going up doesn’t really change plans.

Wait until Von gets suspended and see how the Bills treat him. -

That’s basically how it goes. Accused names should always be sealed in any rape investigation. I’m not sure why they aren’t. -

There were so many layers to this that I don’t understand why people were shocked the Bills would eliminate the distraction. Also remember they were the Super Bowl favorites, so all eyes on them. And sad to say he was just a rookie punter. The NfL probably should’ve put him on the exempt list until it all concluded. -

I’m asking about the pretext call. Did that happen? There were so many levels to this. Remember Brandon Beane said certain things they were told by Araiza weren’t true. I dont think the Bills thought he was guilty. It seems like Araiza left out key details of the investigation and Beane felt lied to. -

I have a question as I haven’t followed the case closely for a while. Was the pretext phone call also fake? -

Chiefs got rid of their $25+million WR. They got cap space and 5 draft picks to fill their roster. There is zero chance Bills fans would’ve said trade Diggs a couple years ago instead of extending him. Patriots and Chiefs are similar where they never broke the bank for offensive weapons for their all world QB. Only smart team friendly moves. Even Randy Moss was acquired by NE for cheap. -

Ugh. Really? It took the entire year for his name to be cleared. What did you want the Bills to do? They definitely couldn’t play him. -

Probably saves a few million in cap if Araiza works out for them. -

I think they’d be interchangeable. He and Shakir would be similar roles though. Bills might be looking for straight field stretchers. I wouldn’t be shocked if they draft 2 sprinters. Samuel is more of a horizontal WR. Get the ball in his hands. I don’t really know enough about Brady. As OC in Buffalo he was very much horizontal with his play calling. A lot of WR screens. Samuel fits that more than even Diggs does. So does Shakir.
