  1. Just got back from Mongolia last night..... What I learned while I was in Mongolia: Bring Q-Tips. The combination of wind and dirt is not a good combination. The women (IMHO) are beatiful. Not all of them, but they have a unique beauty that really took me by suprise. There is a great irony there. For a third world country the women dress impecablly. Every day I would drive through a district and see women walking out of the poorest conditions....pulling a cart with a barrel to get water at the local well, yet dressed like they just stepped off the cover of Vogue and talking on their cell phone. If the people of Mongolia ever get their act together the city of Ulaan Baatar could become one of the greatest cities in the world. TONS of natural resources in Mongolia yet to be tapped into. Traffic is the craziest I have ever exerienced in my life. Please...people of Boston and NYC, you don't have a clue what bad traffic is until you drive in UB. If an earthquake ever strikes, it will be lights out. There isn't a single building in the captial city that would be left standing. Keep your wallet at home. Pick pocketing is rampant there. The people (excluding the picket pockets) are extremely gracious and friendly. Having said that....they don't believe in lines. When you go to the bank,....it is first come first served and typically the first person served is the first person that can shove their way to the front . No lines (part 2) This is the reason driving is so nutty there. I still have no idea why they actually paint lines on the road. No one abides by them. Micro Bus rides are scary. Mini-Vans that seat 9, literally have up to 18 people jammed into them before they take off.
  2. it's a great question. i can state why i believe a loving God allows people to starve, die, be sick, and the whole long laundry list of things, but in the end, it is only my faith and my opinion, so my quess is....although you have posted this statement with the utmost respect, it is my response that i suspect you would challenge. and since i don't ever want to be one to start a thread on religion that goes on for 17 pages and in the end, no one has a changed opinion, accept our opinions of one another.....lets end it before it starts. i like too many people on this board that don't share my faith, and i don't see a reason to ignite a thread that cannot and will not end well.
  3. for me it is a Bible thing. nothing to do with religion or denomination. Romans 10:14 "How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?"
  4. Marty White? If so,...he is the character I am going to visit. When he came home for a break last year, he told me he did that to someone.
  5. do you have mongolia confused with Papua New Guinea?
  6. If all goes as planned we will be in the Gobi for three days. (Or Govi as it is pronounced and spelled there). Can take the image of your avatar instead? (God...forgive me!!)
  7. They built a Ger last year for the church that was started. This will be a chapel to replace the Ger. That Ger that was built will be moved to a new yet unknown town. for a new church. Kind of a cool thing about Mongolia. "Have Ger...Will Travel" Do you remember who the missionary was?
  8. funny you would say that....we were scheduled for a trip to Appalacia three years ago but we just couldn't get our communications straight with the man that works a mission in "Looney Tunes", West Virginia. So...instead, we went to NYC. That trip covered the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Jersey City.
  9. i might be able to land one of them in trade.
  10. Leading a group from church on a Mission Trip. Main goal will be to assist a missionary there (who used to be the pastor of our church here in Roch.) build a Chapel in Bianhoshoo. A small town outside of Ulaan Baatar. Your prayers for safety will be acepted until I return on April 9. Where is Mongolia?
  11. oooohhhh........soooooo close!
  12. don't bother wishing him a happy birthday.....he's still mad as hell isn't going to take it anymore. aw heck...happy birthday anyway!
  13. ....Just thinking out loud. i don't doubt the OL could look like this for the opener. but i am curious what the plans are for Duke Preston. Is he going to be a starting center, a starting guard, or a backup? I hope he pans out and develops into a dominant longtime starting C.
