Fox Sports Preseason Power Rankings
macaroni replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would much rather get some respect AFTER the season is over than before it even starts. -
Well he's actually not very far from an icon ...... if memory serves me right ...... he's second to only Vince Lombardi in wins (or maybe it was winning percentage). While I agree he is pretty irritating as an announcer, he was one hell of a coach. His induction to the hall is for his coaching acomplishments, he shouldn't be overlooked because of his announcing abominations.

Does anyone know where to get Weck rolls
macaroni replied to envirojeff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Publix bakery (in Rockledge) will make some up for me if I give them a days notice, they're very nice about the whole thing not even requiring a minimum order or anything ....... my guess is the bakery manager is an ex western New Yorker ..... I never abuse this gold mine with small family sized orders, but wait until I'm having a sizable party and wish to indoctrinate some friends into the Beef on Weck appriciation society. Come to think about it Publix has been pretty darn good about getting things ..... a few years ago my entire family was visiting Florida from Buffalo during Football season ....... I told them I would treat them to a tailgate party "Florida style" ..... they were surprised when it consisted of Beef on Weck, Chicken wings, and Genny, Publix got me the Weck, Genny, and Franks hot sauce for the wings. -
Mr Wilson is really a woman??????? Maybe he/she didn't want to shake hands because she/he forgot to remove his/her nail polish .............. not that there is anything wrong with that.

This brings up an interesting point .......... exactly what do we expect from J.P. this year ....... what will we fickle fans consider a sucessful year, and what would we consider as a failure? Personally, I consider J.P. a rookie ..... I know, I know 2nd year yadda yadda ... but bottom line he's a rookie as far as playing time goes. He's going to make some mistakes, every player makes mistakes, it's just more obvious at some positions than others. He will most likely start kind of slow and play in spits and spurts until he becomes comfortable. I predict he will lose us a game or two with bone headed rookie mistakes, hopefully he will take the team on his shoulders and win a game or two through his athletic abilities. I don't think I can attach a win number to his sucess, I can see situations where if we finish 3-13 but J.P. shows an increasing level of maturity and player skills through the season should be considered good ...... as well as finishing 13-3 where we got there in spite of J.P.'s play that would be a negative (as far as J.P. is concerned). Bottom line ...... I'm looking for some basic abilities from him that is built upon, and refined, from week to week. He gets a free pass this season as far as the team record goes ...... I'm just looking forward to seeing a talented young player mature into a position that he will enjoy continued sucess in for years to come ..... here's to keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm not all knowing ....... but I did sleep at at Holiday Inn last night. If I were you ....... and I'm not. The thought that the job situation was so bad that I felt the need to "move on", and my present company didn't feel the need to make my situation better until I blackmailed them with the threat of leaving would cement the deal. I'd hate to think that I was stuck in a job that I had to go to such drastic measures to better my situation. If all of those "perks" are available to you today, they were available to you yesterday .... and should have been offered to retain a "valued employee".

Serious Question From An Eagles Fan
macaroni replied to Soylent Green's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't see it as crushing ...... don't get me wrong, I'd much rather have won four straight than have lost four straight, but the bottom line is that the Bills of the 90's gave us fans some damn good football. There were things to look forward to every week, plays and players to cheer. Heros and memories were made almost every week. Stories were played out that have been told from father to son, and are now being told to our grandsons .......... it was a glorious time, a fun time to be a Bills fan for four years running (with the exception of four particular unfortunate Sunday nights). I understand some fans feel if their team doesn't win the super bowl that they are a failure, and that's OK, everybody has their own yardsticks. My personal yardstick is that I want my team to give me exciting football, give me a chance to win every game, give me something to root for, and the Bills of the 90's certianly did that. Now if you want to talk about our record lately ......... THAT I find crushing -
I must confess, I enjoy reading PFT. I'd never rely on it for any football news, but like I always am compelled to peek at the rags at the checkout counter to see what the "Batboy" is doing, or where was the latest sighting of bigfoot, or who the alians are visiting ..... I can't help myself from seeing what Pro football talk has to say each day.

Reasons to be optimistic about the season

I don't see this post as "slamming" the new QB ....... IMHO, it sounds like a pretty fair expectation for a first year QB. -

Another Travis post: people forget that
macaroni replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't see a problem ...... he is our backup running back (at this point in time), unless you are just anti Henry, you should be happy with that fact. If a deal comes along that will better our team, and only cost us our back-up, we will need to jump on it ............ but unless the deal betters our team, we just don't need to move Henry. I must admit I'm a Henry fan (glad to have Willis starting, but a Henry fan non-the-less) ......... but we could do a lot worse for a backup then Travis. While I agree that he is gone next season ..... we have to play THIS season, we don't need to dump Henry just to dump him, he can play a role this year. and before everybody jumps on the cancer in the locker room spiel .... knock it off ... nothing in Travis's history indicates such behavior. -
Do we in fact KNOW that Shelton was the Card player to be traded for Henry ...... could it be that Denny was offering Clement for Henry, and THAT's the player TD wasn't impressed with???????? I don't know for sure, but I think the facts were the Cards and Bills had an offer of a potential trade on the table ...... and I also think we all assumed the player was Shelton ........ was his name ever officially connected to the trade, or was it an assumtion by us and the reporters because of the chilly relationship between Shelton and Green?
-
Wellllllll ......... if one has "fluid hips" ......... and they pass gas ....... they end up with ......... a "big bubble"
-
I may be alone in this, but I feel that we could do a lot worse than T-Hen as our back up running back. I have no doubt that (hurt feelings and all) he will sit and maybe pout, but will NOT be a major distraction to the team, and if called on will respond with 100% effort. Nothing in his history with the Bills indicates anything different. If a trade does happen to come up between now and the start of the season that benifits the team, I also have no doubt the team will trade Travis. IMHO ..... Having Travis to come off the bench temporarily to give Willis a rest, or (heaven forbid) take over due to an injury to Willis, is worth much MUCH more to us this year than a third or fourth draft pick would have been.
-
And exactly whay wouldn't we want Shelton?????? because the hole we currently have playing that position is better??? because we seriously think a third round rookie can play the position better than someone with a few years as a starter??? bottom line ......... Shelton would make our team better.

More signs it looks like Travis to Cards
macaroni replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't take this wrong ...... I'm a T-Hen fan, and if we didn't have Willis I would have no qualms starting the season with Travis as our running back ........ but when we talk about value, it boils down to ....... we have a running back sitting on our bench ........ They have an OT sitting on their bench ...... Pretty equal value from that perspective. Now we have no one of any note playing LT on our line .... they have no one of any note playing runningback ..... looks kind of equal there. We have a "future star" (at least to our current thinking) playing ahead of T-Hen .... they have a future star (at least to their current thinking) playing ahead of Shelton, so it doesn't look like either of the bench warmers are going to beat out the incumbents. I just don't see the disparity in "value" between the players ....... Shelton would fill one of our needs, Henry would fill one of their needs, and a swap of seconds is gravy for us. All that said ....... I saw the Denny Green interview on NFL last night and he sounded pretty sour on the trade ........ not the usual whishy washy pre announcement coach speak ......... he sounded more like he was thinking those $%#@&* Bills, we've been trying to trade for Henry for three months and they are holding our feet to the fire so we're moving on. (this isn't a quote or anything, just my impression from his tone and body language). -
Any Henry for Shelton supporters still out there?
macaroni replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Slowly raising hand .......... I still think the Henry for Shelton deal would be a good one ....... but you have the terms just a little off. TD wanted Shelton and a swap of seconds for Henry ..... which I still believe is a good deal for us. I must admit however, that I am not astute enough to really REALLY know how good (or bad) of a LT Shelton actually is. The little I've read about him seemed to inferr that it was not an issue with his play as much as being in Greens doghouse that has him on the trading/cutting block. But either way ..... I'd rather see us get Shelton and a move up in the second round, then an additional third or fourth from another team ..... I really don't see Travis getting us much more than that. -
I hope so ..... like I said in a previous post, I've never been a big Teague fan. The point I was trying to make was that with the signing of Anderson moving UP in the draft to fill a hole with a premire O-lineman isn't as important anymore ..... but filling the LT spot is ........... IMHO ...... we keep our second round spot, and if one of the premire lineman is available we snatch him up ....... if not ..... we go with another area of need. Bottom line is, if in fact the swap of second rounders was the "deal breaker" in the Henry trade, it is now less important for us because of the Anderson aquisisition, so the trade may in fact go through player for player.
-
I've never been a Teague fan ..... however he did do quite well last year, and I do believe there is something to be said for continuity along the line ...... this year we are forced to replace the LT and LG ..... since Teague did well last year .... (unless somebody beats him out in training camp/preseason) ..... I say he's our starting center. I'd HATE to see him shifted to LT and bring in a new center.
-
IMHO ...... the signing of Anderson signals to me that TD has waivered on his Travis for Shelton + a trade of 2nds. I think that TD wanted to move up in the second to ensure a quality O-lineman pick in the draft to fill the LG spot. I think we still end up with a trade with the cards, but it will be a Travis for Shelton "straight up" ...... therefore our line will be .......... drumroll please ....... RT - Williams RG - Villarrial C - Teague LG - Anderson LT - Shelton I must confess, I'm not enough of an "expert" to really know the skill levels of Anderson and Shelton, but by the reactions to the names on this board it looks like a line we could do some damage with.

Ty Law/Buffalo Comments on NFL Access?

I don't see us paying a butt ton of money for him ......... could his current injury status make him a FA blue light special????????
