How can Dick Jauron save his job?
macaroni replied to DIE HARD 1967's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well maybe I'm out of step with the pop tart culture we live in today. While you can't understand giving a coaching staff time to mould and develop a team, I can't understand the idea that one can find sucess changing the coaching staff every three years. We are both entitled to our opinion we just don't agree ..... I'm OK with that. -
How can Dick Jauron save his job?

no ... no .... no .... no The point was I would base my feelings on attitude, not # of wins. IF ..... DJ's teams played balls to the wall for 60 minutes per game every game ...... and his w/l record was 0-fer whatever, than his problem would have been talent and NOT coaching abilities and I would want him to stay. However ...... if his team is playing like they are sleepwalking (like we are playing) his problem MAY not be talent, but an inability to motivate, or game plan, or what ever but it IS a coaching problem. all things being equal ...... I'd take continuity with an average coach above changing coaches every two or three years looking for the Lombardi in the rough. -
How can Dick Jauron save his job?

I get it ..... but the point I was trying to make is that a simple win-loss record does not mean anything to me at this point as far as Dick staying or leaving ...... I want to see this team play hard aggressive efficient gutsy football ..... if we do, but lose the last three games then it's not a big deal. It's the sleepwalking through games that make me want to call for his head. -
Now that Bills have no shot at division ...

This thread killed me Pat*s ....... enough is enough and this would be too much Jets .......... if you think the media was awash with Bret ball washing before ..... there would be wall to wall Farvemania so my only real choice is Goooooooo ..... dolp .... gooooo Mia .... goo fis ....... can't do it ..... just can't -
How can Dick Jauron save his job?

He doesn't even need to win any of our remaining games for me .... I'm a big believer in continuity, I want him to stay ..... I really REALLY do ..... but What has to happen is for the team to play with the same fire .... the same "crispness" as we did the first part of the season. I know we played against "flawed" teams BUT if you have recordings of those games just watch how they broke the huddle .... just look at how efficient they played ....... just look how crisp and decisive the whole team played ...... just look how they fought until the last play. Shoot look at last year when we were basically a MASH unit ....... we played damn hard ..... got our butts kicked ..... be we went down fighting. I can understand the other team having more talent than we do ........ I understand the possibility of the other team just having more desire because of playoff situations ........ shoot I can think of a zillion reason to lose a game, but we are loosing this year just because we have given up ....... and in my uneducated point of view that falls directly onto the Head Coach. Fight hard ...... don't give up ..... go down swinging ....... and I don't want Dick to be fired Go through the motions to collect a paycheck ........ I want Dick ridden out of town on a rail. -
Let me preface this with ...... I'm a Trent guy, I think he will do well for a long time in the NFL. That being said, IMHO we do need a "grey beard" QB on the team ...... weather to give Trent another year or two to get up to speed, or to provide a "big brother" type of presents in the locker room and film room as a backup. McNabb .... fine, Hasselbeck ..... fine, Garcia ....... fine I think all three will be "available" this off season and just may think extending their career a few years may be a good thing. We don't need a "face of the team" I think Trent will eventually fill the bill, what we do need is someone to take the pressure off for a year or two until Trent is ready to carry the team on his shoulders.

Predict the coaching carousel.
macaroni replied to BrooklynBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree 100% with what you are saying .... but ..... IMHO we don't need a good coach at this point, we need a guy who can turn 53 goof offs into a team. I think Jerry Glanville was great at taking a celler dwelling group of underachievers and turning them into a team ..... however once he had a "team" it turns out he pretty much sucked as a coach. I think if Singletary could make us competitive in every game ...... not saying championchip level ...... just to the point we don't lay down for the Clevelands and San Fransicos of the world (and Jets and wounded Pat*s) then he just may have the experiance to become a good coach ......... if not ....... thank you very much ........ and we bring a coach in that can do something with a "team". The men who can whip 53 gabonies into a team then take them to the SB are few and far between ..... Parcells ...... Lombardi .... Bellyache maybe ...... but not many more come to mind. -
What would you rather do than become a Dolfan?

Predict the coaching carousel.
macaroni replied to BrooklynBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Call me crazy .... but ..... If the Bills are hiring next year (which I doubt), I vote for Mike Singeltary ..... hear me out .... What this team needs now is a no BS kind of guy ..... a guy who is blatent about "play hard for this team or hit the showers". It's often said the team should take on the personality of the head coach ......... I for one WANT a head coach with a personality for a change ........ face it if we change coaches next year we are facing another mid-pack finish anyway, just once I'd like to have a team full of mean SOBs that we can build on instead of a bunch of high motor good citizens. Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating a team of thugs ..... I still like the high character guys ..... I just want to see some fire. -
So if you're the Detroit Lions do you.....
macaroni replied to zow2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IMHO .... Cassell is playing pretty darn good for his experiance level, BUT, say what you may about the Pat*s the both the team and coaching staff is excellent, experianced, and stable. Put Cassell on a team such as the lions and he'll look like a QB who hasn't started since high school. A better route (again my opinion) would be to make a run for McNab and draft their QB of the future. -
They had just showed a pan of the stadium with all of the empty seats. I turned to my son and said, "I bet the only people left in the stadium are Bills fans." Just then they zoom on the crowd behind the Bills bench, all decked out in your red, white, and blue ........ priceless

YES WE WON - but why is everyone talking playoffs still

life is frustrating enough as it is...
macaroni replied to UB2SF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bottom line is; The Monday night game was NOT important The Bills win loss record is NOT important If the Bills move or not is NOT important If the Bills ever make it to the playoffs again is NOT important That little bundle of soiled diaper red faced screaming future Bills fan 12 inches from your face IS important Root for the Bills all you want ....... watch the games any way you are comfortable with ..... but for right now you owe your heart and soul to the "little guy" -
Just how bad Edward's Game was.....
macaroni replied to AnthonyF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IMHO the sevarity of how bad TE was Monday really depends on the reason. I'm not talking the excuse, or the party line I'm talking the reason. For example; If the reason is really, "we didn't prepare for the defense the Browns threw at us, I was rattled because I've never seen the things they were doing and I didn't know where their players were coming from so I tended to check down to what I thought was my safest option". I can live with that. He's young and inexperianced, and did what he could to protect the ball. He will eventually get to the point of "been there, seen that" If the reason is really, "Gee I don't know .... for the last few wees it's almost like I'm walking in a fog. Things aren't as clear to me as they were the first few weeks, the game was swerling around me in a blur, I did the best I could". I can live with that. It probably means he's still dealing with the brain scramble he suffered in the Cards game ...... it points an ugly finger at the Bills medical staff however. If the reason is, "OMG, they intercepted some passes at the begining of the game ...... I can't throw down field against these guys". That's a harder pill to swallow ....... IMHO, a QB has to know we will win the game no matter what, especially if mistakes are made early in the game that can be overcome. If we had imposed our will on the Browns after those interceptions (which we were still capable of), those interceptions wouldn't have mattered in the outcome of the game. We would have killed them. We all know TE stunk up the joint Monday night, it would have been great if his mental part of the game was such he would have recovered "on the fly" but with his experiance level that may have been too much to ask. What remains to be seen is how he does (or if he does) recover this weekend. If he comes out throwing down field against the "Chefs" the boy will be alright ........ if it's more of the tentitive deer in the headlights check down to the RB behind the LOS ....... well sadly Trent may be broken. It's hard for us fans to seperate a "body of work" from an isolated game or two for an individual players performance. In the case of a Manning or Farve it's pretty darn easy to dismiss a sucky game, but in the case of a guy with only something like 19 games, there is no significant body of work to compare with. In our case, where we've suffered through a slide like the last few weeks we are compelled to seek a scape goat ...... are all of our losses directly attributable to Trent ????? Maybe yes, maybe no ........ I think I can say that Monday night if not 100% Trents fault certianly was 99% his fault. But the real question is, is that one loss significant to Trents career? I say maybe yes ...... maybe no ........ we will see in the next few weeks, for us Bills fans I hope the answer is no. -
Very interesting ..... not to disparage your "fandom", but what exactly drives you to be a Bills fan? The reason I ask is I'm pretty much in the same boat as far as being an out of state Bills fan. I was born and raised in WNY and attended the Bills Camps/games from the begining, but left Buffalo in 1970. I remain a Bills fan because watching and rooting for them for some strange reason brings me back to my roots. Laugh if you will but when the Bills tee it up on Sundays I can actually feel the chill in the Florida air, I can actually smell autumn in the air, I crave a bag of peanuts from the vendor outside of the gates on Best street. I can almost taste the ice cold Genny. Watching a Bills game brings back memories of my youth with my brothers and dad at the rockpile in a much MUCH simpler time. However, in todays age of free agency, if the Bills would ever move from WNY, they would become just another NFL team to me. I wouldn't actively "boycott" them, but I'd have no special interest in them either. If I remained a football fan, living in Florida, I guess I'd have to choose between the Jags, Bucks, and dolphins as my "home team" (yeah like I could ever root for the dolphins).

Trent needs to see a "head" Dr.-fast!
macaroni replied to atl-fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hold on a second ...... just because a lay person doesn't understand the "non-linearity" of the injury they shouldn't be held up to ridicule. We are all here for an education ..... sometimes about football, sometimes about other things. The healing process being a linear thing does seem to make sense on a purely logical level, if that's not the case then when someone presented TE's performance during the SD game as proof he was OK, all of you self described Dr. Welbys needed to educate us. -
I'm a big believer in "continuity" IMHO everyone needs to have a looooooong leash to prove themself or play themself out of a funk. That being said, I agree wholeheartedly with your point that a SOME point we needed to draw the line in the sand. We had to have a coach with the gonads to pull his starting QB and tell him "son, you just don't have it today". What I disagree with is that JP should have been sent in. Once again it's my opinion thet there is no way JP is with us next year ..... and I've seen enough of JP to feel he is NOT our QB of the future. In my opinion Dick should have pulled Trent in the third quarter and sent in Hamden. We were outplaying the Browns in every aspect of the game with the exception of QB .... our O-line was giving Trent hours worth of protection ..... put in the kid we need to know about for next year and see what he can do under pressure to win a game. Dick didn't have to make it like a "punishment", he needed to convey the message that Trent just didn't have it last night (a fact I think Trent already knew) and he had to make a change for a chance to win the game.

Edwards throwing Lindell under the bus?
macaroni replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wasn't at the stadium, but I wanted to see him throw another pass. IMHO, Trent's big sin was not the interceptions ..... happens to the best of them ...... what I can not forgive is the fact it got in his head ..... it got under his skin ...... those interceptions made it so he was incapable of throwing the ball down field. Those interceptions messed with his mind so bad it took our QB out of the game. Kelly threw INTs ..... it just pissed him off and he came back swinging Lord Farve throws INTs ...... he laughs it off and comes out chucking the rock I'm not trying to compare TE to those two, BUT, to be a good QB in the NFL one has to overcome adversity, he has to have a short memory, he HAS to believe in his (and his team mates) skills. I did not see that from TE last night. -
Why aren't helmets foam padded on the outside?

Ooooooohhhhhhhhhhh well then never mind -
It's starting, many sports franchises to change hands
macaroni replied to realtruelove's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hmmmmmm .... Maybe Mr. Wilson could sell the team to a Canadian who would agree to move the team to Toronto. That would kill a few birds with one stone. 1.) The league gets to "globalize" which seems like their goal lately. 2.) WNY does not have to worry about financing a new stadium in the future 3.) Ralph gets to avoid increased Cap gains tax 4.) Fans on Two Bills Drive who are tired of supporting a losing team can quit their bitching Looks like a win-win to me -
Why aren't helmets foam padded on the outside?
macaroni replied to busterramsey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let me take a stab at this one ........ Helmets don't have foam padding on the outside because the players head is on the inside. Makes sense to me -
Interesting sports fan philosophy ....... Hmmmmmmm Should one be a fan of a particular team ...... or be a fan of winning? I guess in this day and age of free agents where players switch teams throughout a creer more than not, why shouldn't a "fan" switch his/her team depending on the win loss record. Better yet, we could make "fandom" retro active; for instance since The G-men won the SB last year could I as a fan disclaim my "Billsness" and claim I'm a NYG fan? Could I be a fan of the flaming thumbtacks now because I enjoy being a fan of an undefeated team, then switch if the falter in the playoffs? I guess the only big disadvantage I can think of would be the cost of all of those T-shirts, and team pariphinalia if you switched all of the time. With todays "poptart" generation I guess this sort of fandom could work. But for this old fogey it will not. I don't remember ever really choosing to be a Bills fan, I just became one, I've been one from the start and I'll be one until the end. good bad, or indifferent

Is Schobel a better player than we give him credit for?
macaroni replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Worse than Center and or Guard??????? While I agree DE is an area of "need" on the Bills, it is far FAR outshadowed by our need of if not good at least a passible guard or center. Just my opinion of course -
Would 8-8 or 9-7 be an improvement
macaroni replied to Sisyphean Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the question was asked after the first four games, the answer would have been a resounding YES, not because of the 4-0 record (the teams were weak) but because the team had a look and feel of a team who KNEW what they had to do and went about it in a methodical way. The defense was flying to the ball, the offense looked crisp. Asking the question now I'd have to give a resounding NO, and again not because of the record. If you are fortunate enough to have Tivo'd the season compare how the team played at the beginning and how they are playing now. It's almost like they are just going through the motions of a football game ..... no passion ...... no desire ... no urgency. -
I know it's simplistic but it almost seem like changing our run blocking scheme to "run forward and knock somebody on their a$$" would be a hell of a lot more effective than what they are using now.
