Jauron's "Come to Jesus" meeting with T.O.
macaroni replied to BillnutinHouston's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IMHO .... much much worse for the team, city, and fans can happen. T.O. will have the ear of the national media (as always) because they just can't wait for the next melt down. When the Bills start doing poorly (as we all know it very well may happen) T.O. will start ranting and raving about how the Bills are a two bit team playing in a two bit town. The fans will then start to get on his case and boo him out of town. But T.O. will have another "episode" and it will be in front of a gaggle of national media and he will blame everything on the team, the town, and the fans ......... mark my words. When willis left and gave a few "swipes" at Buffalo nobody in the media heard or cared ..... when T.O. starts, the national media will be having a field day. -
Jauron's "Come to Jesus" meeting with T.O.

Jauron .......... "come to Jesus meeting" ........... surley you jest -
1. Outside of the bay area (49ers and Oakland), NYC (Giants ans Jets), and Miami (dolphins) I think the nightlife compares with the majority of NFL cities ....... I find it hard to believe Cincy, Cleveland, Pittsburg or Detroit are happening towns nightlife wise. 2. I really don't think a FA will base a career move on the shineness of the stadium ..... practice/workout facilities maybe ... medical facilities maybe .... but not stadiums. And good weather is in the eye of the beholder ..... would you rather practice and have camp through a cool autumn in WNY or in the 98degree heat of Miami? 3. sounds good at first blush ..... but the Pats stunk for years and were able to build through it ...... Cowboys stunk for years ..... Green Bay stunk for years ....... Cards stunk forever ....... the NFL is cyclic every team stinks for a while and is good for a while 4. Very valid point about the number of holes needing to be filled ..... that shouldn't scare away FAs, it should attract them. I do agree it would scare away the "premire" 100 million dollar FAs, but like you said we don't need him right now we need ten 10 million dollar men. As far as Canada ..... I say bull sh--. 5. I may have to agree with point #5 ..... but before I do let's see if Brady is fully recovered from his knee, and I want to see who the Jets have at QB.
-
Does Warner really think he can find a better situation than playing for the Cards????? Can the Cards really think they can find a QB that fits their situation better than Warner??????? The NFL is a wackey world if you ask me.

My point wasn't so much on size but on technique ...... and maybe the lack of that "type" of center is why the 3-4 defense is so sucessful. Mawae is a GREAT example @ 289 not one of the biggest centers in the league, but he's one of the best (or at least he used to be) stopping the inside rush.
-
Not to say that I don't like the pick up ....... I do. But everything I've read says he is a "technique" type of blocker who relies on angles and leverage. I'll be the first to admit I'm not real knowledgable about line play but it sounds to me he may not be the right man to face a 3-4 NT six times or more a year. Sounds like he'd make a bang up guard, but personnally I'd still be looking for the big strong anchor kind of center.
-
I agree .... I think Simmons is our guy, I'm a little bit afraid of his injury but that is what the medical staff is for. As far as Coles, I think he's a pretty darn good reciever, but he's pretty much a Lee Evans redux, we need someone with different skill sets (translate to big body reciever who will battle over the middle for the reception).
-
IMHO ...... our main targets at the begining of FA were not Taylor or Coles .... they are afterthoughts to fill percieved holes with what the FO feel are upgrades that could have just "fallen onto our laps". I feel the philosophy of the "brain trust" (and I use the term loosely) from the get go is that we don't need a center or a guard or a DT or a DE or a TE but that we need a Center AND a guard AND a DT AND a DE AND a TE and the intention all along was to not blow their wad on obtaining a single "superstar" to fill one hole, but to pick up a handfull of second tier FAs to upgrade a handfull of positions. On reflection I must agree ...... adding just one piece of the puzzle will not acomplish anything other than to waste money because we have so many pieces missing ..... we are going to suck weather we have a 100 million dollar DT or not, but just maybe we won't suck as bad if we have a better player in all or most of the aforementioned positions, and next year we will have fewer holes to fill. I'm as tired as the rest of Bills nation to think we are STILL 3 or 4 years away from being a contender ...... but the fact of the matter is ........... we are.

Now that Haynesworth signed for $100 mill
macaroni replied to Justice's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
101 million ........ just the nature of the beast -
What I don't understand is the foreskins are reported to be something like 8.1 million under the cap (one of the teams with the least cap room in the NFL) and they just spent somewhere in the neighborhood of 150 million in free agent contracts, there are teams with 4, 5, 6 times the cap room ..... how can the skins spend like this without mortgaging their future???? I understand that they don't need to fit "contract value" under a single years cap ....... but SHEESH ..... the guarenteed monies are going to be accelerated at some point or another.

I have a sick feeling in my gut that it will be Jeff Saturday ......... I want to believe he is the answer to our center woes .... but his age and recent injuries have me worried.
-
No need to be a jerk ... But bottom line is he IS a 14 year vet with lots of wear and tear on his body ...... if he or his agent thinks he is going to get a blockbuster deal to play in an ideal situation ....... well then more power to them. At this point in his career it's not about what situation he wants to play under ...... or what weather he wants to play in .... or even what team he wants to choose ...... its about does he want to continue playing and what team will take him. Once again in my opinion I think he could help the Bills (short term) ....... I think the Bills should offer him an offer equal to his potenial benifit to the team ....... therefore I think he should be a target this free agency period.

Oakland?????? Seems like an Al Davis kind of QB
-
While I do agree that Brooks is a bit long in the tooth; 1. IMHO is is a significant upgrade to what we have. 2. Because his career is on the down swing we should get him on the cheap. 3. He'd be a great "mentor" for a year or two should we pick up a "future" OLB in the draft.

Derrick Brooks Fred Taylor Kelley Washington in that order

So do we trade Peters this offseason?
macaroni replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
OK so your assesment of his play does not agree with the players and coaches who voted him in ..... I'll give you that point. I'm interested in where you feel his level of play IS ........ you've already said he is not #1 would you put him in the top 5??? top 10??? middle of the pack??? bottom dweller??? How do you define .... "not that great of a season" -
So do we trade Peters this offseason?

Yeah ...... probably just like that last fat slob we got rid of ............. Pat Williams -
So do we trade Peters this offseason?
macaroni replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We'd get a 1st round pick beeeeecause (maybe he is a pretty good player????) He's crying about his contract beeeeeecause (maybe it's dumb your LT being the 3rd or 4th highest paid lineman on the team and he's really outplaying his scrub RT contract??????) Kirk Chambers made it "almost" transparent really??? No need to be on the fence about Peters ....... either he's worth it or he's not. IMHO ..... he's a top flight LT in the NFL and should be paid accordingly (and the Bills are not). If he doesn't plead his own case no one else will. -
OK ..... let's play coach for a play ...... 2:06 left in the game ....... you have the ball on your side of the field ........ it's 2nd and 5 yards ....... you lead by less than a touchdown your running game has been producing all day averaging 5.8 yards per running play ..... your running backs combined have one fumble. your passing game has averaged 2.8 yards per passing play (including sacks) ......... your QB has thrown 3 interceptions and fumbled the ball 3 times. In whos hands do you want the ball in to run out the clock??????? DJ not only should apologize ...... but he should commit seppiku
-
No brainer ....... Hamdan is SUPPOSED to look worse than J.P. ........ it's called lack of experiance, and that's why we should start him this week and next week too. It really doesn't matter if we win or lose the next two games ..... as a matter of fact we're better off if we lose (think draft position). I'm NOT advocating throwing the next two games mind you, I just think the experiance to be gained is more important than trying to win one or two more games. On the other hand if T.E. is 100% ...... he's the starter, and he should start.
-
Not unless he agrees to wear a headset on the sidelines
-
I know what you mean ....... as a matter of fact watching football as early as the 50's that was my attitude about a black QB. The NFL should have never let a black man play QB because there hasn't ever been a sucessfull one ........ and coaches, what about coaches ........... scoure the history show me a winning black NFL coach during the 30's ..... 40's ...... 50's

How can Dick Jauron save his job?
macaroni replied to DIE HARD 1967's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not sure there IS a time limit. IMHO progress could (or should) be seen right away, or at least in the second year. The reason I'm even in this thread was I tried to make a point that progress sometimes can't be measured by win/losses alone. I think progress can be measured (assuming a coach takes over a bad team) in attitude and preperation for the first year or two, and it really takes a while for a coaching staff to assemble players with a skill set can compete with the "better teams". For example let's say we fire Dick this off season, and hire coach X ....... who of course hires a new staff. now next year coach X decides we will become a 3-4 defense team .... IMHO .... as much as I hate the "nocover two" scheme we seem to be trying to play ..... I don't think the team is built to support a 3-4 either, so it's going to take a while to play that defense well (we can play hard, we can play tough out of the gate .... but maybe not well). As far as how long ..... not to be wishy washy but ..... it depends ..... I want to see them play hard from the get go, as far as a winning record or making the playoffs (as long as they are playing tough) I'm willing to wait. Don't forget the original post ....... would going 3-0 the rest of the year save Dicks job ....... my answer is still ..... 3-0 or 0-3 doesn't matter ....... the team needs to be well prepared .... needs to play with fire in their belly. either way ....... I don't think Dick pulls it off. (I think we DO agree with that) -
Although we sorely need a quality DE ...... Peppers is only one hit away from ending his career (as is any player). IMHO a quality coach (and staff) will give this team benefit for many years. So I'll pick the coach.
