Isn't it sad to start a new season feeling it already over
macaroni replied to gjv001's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually these days the NFL (and most pro sports actually) are more entertainment than sports .... so it's a GOOD thing you are watching to see if DJ gets fired .... it's a GOOD thing you are following the team to see who the next head coach will be .... it's a GOOD thing you are wondering what Brandons next P.T. Barnum ploy will be. The Bills have become irrelevent as far as a team playing the game of football ...... but they still are providing entertainment value. Just think of the team as a reality football team ..... just like the reality programing on TV ...... no substance, just "entertainment". -

Whoever Bill Cowher wants
-
I wonder if Turk was in effect "fired" prior to the end of the Lions game ...... I haven't watched it on TV yet .... but I remember thinking towards the latter part of the game that we were taking quite a few more shots down field than normal and it seemed like somebody else was calling the plays ......... Hmmmmmmm

Aaron Maybin contract negotiations
macaroni replied to fairfaxbill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Then again maybe the Bills are smart enough to know that this years contracts are based on this years slots so maybe their offer is closer to 24/25 million with 14/15 guaranteed, and Maybin wants to wait until Crabtree signs to try to use those inflated numbers as leverage. No one really knows -
Actually I've never said they weren't ....... I haven't tried to blame OBD of being cheap ..... nor have I blamed A.M. of being a blood sucking malcontent. My post was mearly trying to figure out what an organization should do with an unsigned rookie at this point in time going forward through the season. To be perfectly honest I really don't know what a low ball offer would be in A.M.s case ........ You can say draft slots all you want ...... but that scale isn't official by any means, it is not supported by the players union, nor is it demanded to by the owners. I'll agree it has become traditional over the years, but not "official" by any means. So here we have a player who the Bills wanted ..... they drafted ..... and offered him what they thought he was worth. Either he agrees and signs or he doesn't agree refuses to sign and gets to test the market next year ........ I'd be willing to bet dollars to doughnuts that if he waits till the draft next year he will not get near what is on the table right now.

And what makes you say the Bills are "low balling" the kid???
-
IMHO ...... A players "value" the day he is drafted should be able to be estimated by what the draft position paid last year plus or minus an inflation factor giving quite a bit of room for negotiations. As time passes his "value" can go up or down depending on the contracts being signed around him .... still giving room for negotiations. But there HAS to come a time when his "value" to the team starts to decrease purely from the fact of his contribution to the upcoming season will be diminished. I guess what I'm trying to say is ....... is this the time when OBD says to A.M. "OK here is our offer, it's good for one week, next week it will decrease by X amount every week until the season starts ..... when the season starts we have more important things to worry about than signing a rookie and we will offer a significantly reduced contract, if you'd rather not play for the Bills we understand, and you can sit and rot until 12:00 the night before next years draft and take you chances."

If the Bills leave one day for another city
macaroni replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I guess I'd be a "free agent fan" I can't say I'd give up the NFL all together, but I think I'd root for whichever team caught my interest from year to year. As a previous poster said ..... the Bills are my tie back to my home town, and I refuse to miss one single play. Without the Bills, I'd watch who ever and when ever the spirit moved me when I didn't have something better to do. -
Who could be the Bills next head coach?

Won't happen ...... I heard an interview whith "Shotzy" on Sirius yesterday and they asked him if he would consider getting into coaching again. He gave a definate no way ..... said he was too old and felt that the time had past where he felt he could do the job anymore. -

Thanks MM ..... I was familiar with his Super Bowls of course, I just didn't remember anything from him lately. My "taste" in coaches is for someone a little more flamboyant ..... Jeff Fisher ..... Sigeltary kind of guys. Shannahan always struck me as more of a stoic/cold fish kind of personallity ....... of course standing next to DJ ANYONE would look like Robin Williams on speed. -

Just a little education for me ..... because I don't understand the love affair with Shanahan .... and I'm too lazy to goggle it ... how many times the last ten years did Shanny make it to the playoffs? -
I did this once but there were no repercussions because she said "it was no big thing"

This post is not based on any "facts" or "research" of the Eagles situation but; I was listening to the NFL channel on Sirius the other day and they were talking about some of the "barely within the rules" things some of the teams do at this point of the year. One of the things they talked about was placing players the team KNOWs are on the team, and may for one reason or another not need the practice time, on the PUP list. The reasoning was a PUP player does not count against the player limit and allows the team to carry extra "fringe" players a few extra days to better evaluate them, or bring in a few players to look at. Two examples they gave of coaches who "creatively" use the PUP list at the beginning of camp were Tuna and Bellicheat. Like I said I don't know the Eagles situation, but anytime a player is PUP for "spasms" or "tweeks" it makes me go Hmmm.

Maiorana and Roth: Langston Walker Not Real Happy at LT
macaroni replied to Thurman#1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hmmmm .... kinda makes you wonder why Peters was the lowest paid lineman on the Bills doesn't it? Maybe he was right being pissed off the way OBD treated him. -
It would be a marketing ploy to sell tickets and look like a sucessful franchise ............ kind of like us renting T.O. for a year to fan the flames and sell season tickets.

Depew?????? Looks like Sloan to me

Can we win with our number two QB?
macaroni replied to offde-fence's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IMHO ..... I think the real question is could ANY qb win this season behind our O-line. I like what I've read about our two rookie guards but they ARE rookies none-the-less...... Like Walker at RT but I'm not sure about LT ... I have doubts about another teams "utility" middle O-lineman playing center especially between two rookies AND against the premire nose tackles of the AFC East. short of some sort of miracle I think it's going to be a pretty rough first half of the season -
Jason Peters Pass-Blocking Skills
macaroni replied to bourbonboy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't mean to infer that I can judge coaching talent any better than anyone else ...... but ....... exactly what makes McNally so special???? It seems to me if turning Jason Peters from an undrafted scrub overweight TE with limited blocking skills into even a passable LT is a sign of McNallys greatness what the heck is the fact that we had a bonifide RT, RG, C, and LG that couldn't block worth dog doo-doo attributable too? IMHO ....... the fact Jason did well could be attributed to his desire to do well (and earn a big paycheck) while the skill level of the line in general can be attributed to the quality of coaching. Then again I could be wrong
