Are the Bills in 2012 a 3-4 or a 4-3 defense
BuffaloWings replied to San-O's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They should design defenses and schemes based on the personnel...know what your guys can do best and put them in those positions, then fit the rest of the personnel in spots that best help the team succeed. I hate this "we should play a 3-4" or "we should play a 4-3 or hybrid". Don't fit players into a system. Round peg, meet square hole. -
YES

Can he rush the passer?

I want the Ravens and 49ers, so that means the Giants & Patriots will win. Seriously, I think it'll turn out that way. Baltimore wasn't terribly impressive last week and Flacco looked shaky. I can only hope New England's defense sucks enough to let Rice run wild. The Giants have just looked like a Superbowl team for the past three weeks. Literally everything is working for them right now.

Green Bay Miscues - Basis?
BuffaloWings replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not to mention Rodgers hadn't played in 3 weeks and Jennings missed the last 3 games. Rodgers missed a wide open Jennings on their first drive that would have been a TD. A number of his throws were off, but he was also pressured a lot. He had to slide around, step up, and avoid the pressure numerous times. That also threw off the timing with the receivers. Rodgers was never comfortable. I chalk this up to a little bit of rust combined with a great pass rush by the Giants. -
Did Power Play a Part in SF 49ers Early Win ??

So what do people think of Alex Smith?
BuffaloWings replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree to a point...sometimes you can see the QB doesn't get it or won't get it. Edwards seemed to get it, but he had a coaching staff that dragged him down and put him in bad spots. He also lost confidence in himself after the concussion. You also can't be changing coaches/coordinators *every year*, which is what San Fran did. -
So what do people think of Alex Smith?
BuffaloWings replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with the coaching thing. He's got the physical tools and make-up of the prototypical NFL QB, but didn't have the right people around him (coaches, players, etc). Harbaugh just seems to relate to him very well, which is a HUGE factor in Smith's success. I think he showed a lot of moxie and poise and grew up a lot in those last 2 minutes...finally. That said, while he's not flashy, he does a little more than "manage the game" for them. He may not approach the Aaron Rodgers/Tom Brady/Peyton Manning level of elite QBs, but he'll be up there. -
All 4 games? Did you watch? Will you watch?
BuffaloWings replied to Clippers of Nfl's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm in. I watch the playoffs every year. I'm a football fan, period. -
When will they ever learn? Tampa gets permission
BuffaloWings replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't even go that far. He was terrible in Denver, underachieved in Dallas, and the only reason he won in Buffalo was because Ted Cottrell ran his defense and Doug Flutie masked problems with the o-line. I'm sure he's a great guy, but he's much better suited to be a DC than a head coach. -
Mort still can't get over Donahoe firing
BuffaloWings replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That would make me want to leave, anyway. Nevertheless, another problem Donahoe had was seemingly drafting the skill position players instead of building the lines. Mike Williams was the right pick at the time, but he just didn't work out. He let Pat Williams and Antoine Winfield go (and if anyone thinks it's because Gregg Williams didn't want fat players, then why was Sam Adams on the team?) and never replaced them with good enough players...it was like he always tried to pick up players off the scrap heap and win by building a cheap team. Gregg Williams was a gamble when John Fox & Marvin Lewis were the hot commodities - it turns out Williams is a better DC than head coach. Mularkey seemed like he was on the way to being good, but didn't want to be part of the mess after Donahoe was let go and Marv came in. Mort should just let this thing go. Donahoe won't be hired for anything more than a consultant job, so there's no point in trying to praise his draft picks from 8 years ago. -
I'm not a big fan of the latest mock draft. OT is never a bad pick in round 1, but a pass rusher (Upshaw or Mercilus) is more important to me.

Osweiler and Tannehill both look good, but if Logan Thomas from Va Tech is available (I don't know if he's declared for the draft yet), I'd give him serious consideration. He really impressed me in the Sugar Bowl.

Possible Free Agent, and draft targets
BuffaloWings replied to mob16151's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thank you...Fitz is signed for another 6 years. He's not going anywhere and unless he gets injured or retires, he's the QB for the foreseeable future. -
Norv and AJ survive in San Diego
BuffaloWings replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Didn't they have their eyes on another coach, anyway? It was clear that Marty wasn't AJ's guy and losing to the Patsies in the playoffs was the perfect excuse. Nevertheless, this reeks of what Ralph did with Jauron after 2008...it was obvious to everyone that the coach wasn't working, yet the owner kept him for consistency's sake. -
One would think he would have (or already did) consulted with Wannstedt prior to this decision. I'd be asking him questions like "Do we have the personnel to run your defense? If not, what do we need to do?" What I hope is that Wannstedt isn't going to go with a 4-3 just because that's "his system". Good coaches develop a system based on the players they have. I'd think Wannstedt either already knows what to do with the personnel in place or he tells Buddy to draft certain players to fit into what he wants to do. Either way, I like the move. The defense showed they were out-coached and out-classed all year.

Brandon Jacobs: my favorite non-Bill
BuffaloWings replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Disagree. Sanchez is decent, but highly overrated. He gets a lot of attention because he plays in the NYC market, but many Jets fans will say how he's inaccurate, makes poor decisions and rarely has one of those mistake-free game where the team wins because of him. He's benefitted from a good defense and solid running game, which haven't been that good this year. -
Because at that point, it's enough of a postgame show for a win that's nice, but doesn't mean much. I'd rather be listening to the Packers & Bears.

A Few Thoughts About The Game
BuffaloWings replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can be on board with this. Unless there's a great OT or guard available, I say they should trade down. I don't want another skill position player from the top 10 just because the "right" pass rusher isn't available. -
Sweep the cheating bitches.

Glad the NFL changed this
BuffaloWings replied to letsgobuffalo12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wait...they got rid of the force out rule, didn't they? I thought the receiver had to get his feet in bounds regardless of whether or not he was forced out. Did something change and I missed it? -
