  1. Imagine what their radio hosts are saying today....
  2. This is precisely what a head coach needs to do. I've said this a million times...the HC needs to coordinate between the offense, defense, and special teams. It's his job to make sure everyone's on the same page (including the players) and manage things on game day. Chan is trying to do all of that and run the offense at the same time...too much, IMO. This drives me mad - classic example is when he needed 4 yards on 3rd down against Tennessee...run the ball!! Even if they didn't make it, they'd chew up some clock and punt to put the Titans farther down the field. He was overthinking the situation with a historically inaccurate QB.
  3. Well, this whole thread just depressed me...
  4. This. The Tennessee & NYJets losses both sting me - games where they were the better team, yet played like diddly-poo. At least NE & SF were clearly the better teams. Kevin is right - they now need to win a game or two that we didn't think they'd win, that being Houston or NE. I don't see them winning either of those two and 3-6 is a tough hole to climb out of. With the AFC being as jumbled as it is, they can still make things interesting. That said, assuming they lose the next two games, they'll need to go 6-1 or win out to have a fighting chance.
  5. I just want hockey...yeah, it may be disappointing to watch the Sabres fall short again, but at least there would be hockey. Stupid, greedy millionaires...
  6. From what I heard, the Bills would have to give up a 6th round draft pick if TJax is active for more than 5 games this year. I don't have a link and my source is a co-worker (who's knowledge I respect), but if it's true, it's certainly an interesting deal...it would give them until Week 13 to activate him if they don't want to give up that draft pick. The problem with Jauron and what Gailey is doing now is that they're hands-off when it comes to the opposite side of the ball. That is, Gailey's an offense guy, so he seems to be giving Wanny complete control of the defense and stays out of it. Conversely, Jauron let someone else control the offense and (for the most part) stayed out of it. I disagree with this philosophy. As a HC, he needs to be involved with all units - offense, defense, and special teams. Yes, the HC may have had a specialty in previous jobs, but once he takes over as the head coach, he becomes the coordinator of all units and manages the game. Gailey seems to be too busy being an offensive coordinator/play caller to manage the game. What he should have done this year was step back and let Modkins run the O.
  7. What's everyone's thoughts on Logan Thomas? I like his size and arm strength...and he seems to run the Va Tech offense with a lot of confidence.
  8. I don't think we can keep making changes every 3 years. I'll buy into Ralph's reason for sticking with Jauron for one more year, even though that wasn't the right time to implement such a policy. I'm tired of the disappointments as much as everyone else, but there has to be some continuity. I did vote for firing Wannstedt, but only because there was no "none of the above" option. I've always had the feeling that we need to give the staff some time. Yes, some of Gailey's play-calling and game management has been suspect, but more often than not, it's good. Wannstedt has been the DC for 7 games. I know the D has been horrific and I wonder about some of the schemes he's been calling, but I don't think we should jump off the ledge just yet...but they better change something quickly.
  9. I think this one ranks up there pretty high for me...but only because it's recent and we're still stuck in playoff futility. I'm sure I could come up with some others that are pretty bad - the OP mentioned the 2004 Pittsburgh loss (they actually had a lead in the 4th quarter, too) - but there was the "Just give it to 'em" game at Foxboro that will always stick in my craw. I also think you could ask this of all fans and they'll find some games. It happens to every team.
  10. I don't care if it's someone on the practice squad saying this...if it's true and needs to be said, then say it. When something goes wrong, people have to be accountable. I hope someone is and gets what's coming to them...be it the bench or get cut.
  11. Power rankings are nice, but so are ceramic dalmatians. It's interesting to look at and creates a discussion (e.g., are the 3-3 Jets really a better team than the 3-3 Bills?), which is exactly what the outlets want. At the end of the day, though, it's still pointless.
  12. I'm with PTR, too. I don't think it's any secret that the three blowout losses are disturbing and they may not exactly be looking like the K-Gun offense of the 90s, but there is still time to improve. They've beaten the bad teams (KC, CLE) and lost to the elite teams (NE, SF), but the other two games are a bit enigmatic. They got blown out by an over-rated Jets team, yet squeaked out a win against a pretty good Cardinals team. Either way, the season's nowhere near over. A win next week will certainly help the good feelings going into the bye.
  13. This. I don't even see why someone like Fitzpatrick shouldn't be benched. The fear of losing your job is a pretty good motivator, if you ask me.
  14. I think in order to do this, he needs to hand over the offensive keys and become a head coach. This is very similar to the head coach also being the GM - you can't easily do both well at the same time. There's no doubting Gailey's offensive pedigree, but he's the head coach, not the OC. I think he should give the play-calling duties to Modkins or Lee or whoever else can do the job, so he can step away and address the defense - not take over the defense, but watch over it and put pressure on Wannstedt. At the same time, he should also bench Fitz...be it the next time he starts having a bad game or starting either this week or against Tennessee. There's no better motivator than the threat of losing your job, so maybe Fitz needs to sit down and watch/help Thigpen or TJax. I also agree that the organization is a big factor in the lack of progress since 2000. The end of the Butler era really signified the downward turn that this franchise took. Once the organization was gutted for Donahoe, there has been a lack of direction and leadership ever since. I understood why Ralph said a few years back that he was sticking with Jauron to maintain continuity (even though it was a bad idea) because they can't keep changing management every 3-4 years and expect to start winning. But at the same time, he needs to do something similar to what he did with Donahoe - hand over the keys to the kingdom to a guy that understands the football and business sides - except hopefully get a guy that makes the right moves.
  15. That means the entire AFC East is tied. Nothing to read into it in early October.
  16. Seriously...stop this. Do we really think that we're gonna fire Gailey 4 games into the season, hire a new coach (who'd want his own staff), and start winning enough to make the playoffs? Don't tell me that's not what you're thinking, either. For the love of God, give this team a chance. We haven't even reached Week 5.
  17. I like the plan (though I think they'll catch on after the 5th or 6th throw to Chandler). If the OL plays as well as it has been, then they have a chance to execute this. There is this little thing they have to do...block Patrick Willis once in a while.
  18. Anyone remember Bills at Ravens, October 24, 2010? The Bills were something like 0-6 and the Ravens were coming off a bye. Every single poster on TBD was wondering how bad the final score would be in Baltimore's favor. It was...by far...the best game the Bills played all year. They had a 24-10 lead at one point and even though they blew the lead, Fitz rallied them to tie the game and send it into OT. Yes, they lost the game, but it was the best they played against any team all year long. Just remember something like this when we saw how ugly the San Francisco result will be. I'm not saying the Bills will win or that they will definitely be competitive, but don't assume the game will be ugly just because of who they're playing. That's the one I was talking about. I even think the Ravens were double-digit favorites that day.
  19. Wow....giving up that quick, eh? Yes, it was a demoralizing game. Yes, the defense was pathetic. Yes, Fitz is still showing his inadequecies. We don't think there's time to turn this around? I guess I'll see you all back on the bandwagon. I don't know when that will be, but I'm not jumping off any time soon.
  20. This was the killer. Going up 21-7 at the half would have been a HUGE boost, but that killed a ton of momentum. I'm more wondering about the pass-rushing...I thought this front 4 would have been able to put some pressure on the QB by themselves, but where was the blitzing? I saw none of that and Brady had all day for the majority of the game. Didn't the Giants show the world how to beat Brady with pressure up the middle?
  21. I can't remember if it was Sal S. or Joe B who said this, but the way to beat NE with the passing game is short passes (quick slants, etc.). The Pats have allowed something like 87% of those passes to be completed in their first 3 games. This tells me their LBs aren't good in pass coverage and their DBs are playing off the ball. If Fitz sees that, I can imagine we'd see a bunch of short routes that could turn into long gainers. Well, I hope so...
  22. I think it all comes down to politics...Kraft does seem to have Goodell's ear more than any other owner, so I wouldn't doubt that the league favors the Patriots on certain calls. That said, I'm wondering if there will be many phantom calls or non-calls this weekend. After Monday's debacle, I think the league doesn't want any controversy regarding the officiating...be it questionable possession calls or penalties. Granted, they may not care if the Bills get hosed on a few calls because they're a small market and it would all be hidden among the several Sunday games, but I can't imagine they'd want anything controversial involving any teams with large fan bases.
  23. I always liked him - just couldn't stand the media and E$PN's overreaction to his return after the stroke. Hard-nosed & blue collar type of player, but not quite HoF material. It may be more of him trying to motivate his ex-teammates this week than a reverse psychology thing.
