How do we pull the impossible and beat the Pats?
BuffaloWings replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pressure Brady up the middle. Rush 4 and move Hughes or Lorax over the center and have them push the line from the center backwards. This is how the Giants beat Brady in the Superbowls...twice. Don't run the 2-minute offense. Keep the ball away from their offense and kill the clock as much as you can. This is how the Giants beat the Bills in SB XXV. Then have someone record their walk-through and kill the uplinks from their sideline to the booth. -
But it's getting almost as scary as hits to the head. Just watch our ol' buddy Kiko Alonso - his hit on the Oakland lineman a couple weeks ago was helmet to the knee. Sure, if he tried to tackle him with his chest (i.e., the correct way), he probably would have gotten run over. That hit was borderline dirty, but I'm expecting to see more knee injuries in the next year or two.

This...this...1000000 times this. Parcells did this, too. The biggest reason you win is when you build a system around the roster's strengths. Remember when we tried forcing the WCO on Rob Johnson? As for TT being more motivated to improvise, push the ball, etc....this is the main reason I would have benched him. He became contained in the pocket and couldn't use his legs to escape. Thus, there was nowhere to go with the ball, except out of bounds or to eat it and take a sack. He has been careful to avoid turnovers, but almost too careful. His throws were behind the receivers numerous times, and he'd wait until the receiver would make his break *before* throwing the ball. All of these reasons were why I had no problem with the change.

Uh, Guys...the real problem ain't the Offense...
BuffaloWings replied to Domdab99's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is becoming reminiscent of the Wanny defense that gave up 52, 45, and 50 points in the same season. Granted, not all in consecutive weeks, but every week showed how bad the run defense (and pretty much the entire defense) was. Wanny & Chan kept insisting they had the right scheme, despite the opposite being blatantly obvious. They were gone after that season. Now, I wasn't terribly upset with having Keenan Allen on my fantasy team, but yikes. I saw this while at the Tampa game - receivers are finding soft spots all over the place and everyone is WIDE open. It's almost like the opposing offense knows exactly what the defense will be doing on every play. -
Nathan Peterman to Start this Week.
BuffaloWings replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's getting crushed because TT has been the starter and it's a bold move by an annually-mediocre-at-best team that they think is trying to make headlines. It's like the co-worker you don't respect and you want to criticize everything they do, regardless of whether or not it's a good idea. I've liked Tyrod, but it's time to see what Peterman's got. -
Chargers Not Happy About OPI Call vs Pats
BuffaloWings replied to EersN'Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This. I've caught myself doing this a lot over the past couple of years. I wish I could enjoy it when the Bills score instead of waiting 10-15 seconds to see if there's a flag. -
I'll be attending the game this weekend, coming out from the Albany area. Anyone know of some good places in the West Henrietta or Lockport areas to pick up some gear (shirts, jerseys, etc.)? Thanks!

Is the Patriots' defense as bad as it looks?
BuffaloWings replied to Dr. K's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Because it fits. The Giants had the ball for almost 40 minutes, the Bills had it for barely 20 minutes and scored 19 points. I still think they would have scored enough to win if they had the ball for another 5-6 minutes. -
The fans & analysts are allowed to look ahead...as long as the coaches and players don't. But yes, one game at a time. We've all been down this road before.

Sullivan: One Head Injury. One Head case.
BuffaloWings replied to JM2009's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Brandon was still in control, this would have happened on Sunday afternoon. -
This x 1,000. You can't use QBR alone to judge this thing. This is another intangible that you have to watch. If he has control, has chemistry with the rest of the players, and keeps the ball moving, then keep running him out there. If he looks lost and looks like he has no idea what's going on, then it's Tyrod's team again...numbers be damned.

Bingo. The NFL's response to that was what I would've said - it's up to the teams to sign him, not us. Teams aren't signing Kaepernick because of a combination of him not playing well over the past few years and the distractions that come with his protests. In no way am I suggesting his cause isn't legitimate, but stuff like what he's doing just seems to be an attention-grabber. Someone made the point that he started doing this after he lost his starting job...it seems to me that he's just trying to get himself back in the headlines.

Seems like it, but I'm not fully embracing that until I see the defense. If good enough, they could keep the team in a lot of games. Gunner, why didn't you pick the Patriots* to be 16-0 like every other expert?
-
No...they cover the NBA, college basketball, SEC football, more NBA, the Dallas Cowboys, the New England Patriots, even more NBA, and the Boston Red Sox. While these guys *claim* to cover everything, they probably haven't paid attention to the Bills since the Music City Miracle. I used to watch that show a lot, but when their ticker once included 8 straight NBA-related topics, I started to stay away from it. I didn't see it yesterday, but if they just focused on how the Bills traded away two high draft picks for almost nothing, then they didn't evaluate the trade. The Bills got draft picks back. They got some value for a good WR that has been injured a lot, when we knew they weren't going to extend his contract and will be free agent. They got back a CB who is good in a zone-style scheme (like McDermott's) and traded a man-to-man CB who hadn't yet bought into the defensive scheme. They got a WR who - while hasn't yet shown his potential - can be really good. Did I mention they got a draft pick or two? They have six draft picks in the first three rounds next year. SIX. Try and tell me they don't have leverage to do whatever the hell they want, despite how they perform on the field this year.

Go on record regarding the trades
BuffaloWings replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
At first, I was shocked and hated it. Then I read Joe B's analysis and I'm happy with it. I still don't see playoffs this year, but they put themselves in a position for 2018 to do whatever they want. -
Super Bowl LII: Patriots or the field?
BuffaloWings replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know it's being bandied about that they'll go undefeated again, but I still maintain that's extremely difficult to do, no matter who you are or how much you cheat. Just someone else...please. -
It's the era of mediocrity... Jason Taylor? Good player, but nowhere near HoF worthy.

Will espn ever stop talking about Kaepernick?
BuffaloWings replied to Maury Ballstein's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Kaepernick just wants the attention. His play started to go downhill, so he did something to make headlines. This is the only reason he's relevant right now. At best, he's a backup QB. He should only be a story if/when he signs with someone. ESPN has turned into the NBA network. They cover summer basketball more than they show any MLB highlights. -
What's Your Definition of a Successful 2017 Bills Season

Don't set the bar too high... Playoffs. I almost don't care if they sneak in and get blown out in the wild card round. -
Bills and Sabre Game Weekends (Sabres Schedule)
BuffaloWings replied to Jamie Nails's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This has the makings of a "I need several drinks" or a "WOOHOO, WE BEAT THE TEAMS WE HATE!!! " weekend. -
The common theme among his critics is that he's 36 years old. While I can't argue that age catches up with everyone, it's not like Fred was playing non-stop or was a feature back since he was in his early 20s. He might still have something left in the tank. Bring him in for his work ethic, if nothing else. That alone should rub off on the rest of the team and the younger players. Yes, I'm biased (I have his jersey and he's been my favorite Bill over the past 5-6 years), but unless he's significantly worse than everyone else, I think it's worth giving him a shot.
-
Of course the game is a joke...you can't play a legitimate football game where the guys aren't going all out and the rules don't allow for the same type of strategy as you'd see in a regular season game. But that's not the point. The game's purpose is to reward the players who had the best seasons. It's not supposed to be a real football game. I get why the NFL moved this game to this weekend, but I still think this game/weekend should still be after the Super Bowl, just to get some of those two teams' players in the game.
-
I can see this...a lot of the younger players care more about making highlight-reel plays and getting paid than they do about winning. That said, I don't see that alone as a reason to retire. To me, if you can physically play and you're still in good shape, then why not keep playing? Ben's been beaten up for his entire career, so I wouldn't blame him for retiring.

This is a loaded question. First, a change of title/subject would be good, since it's not very clear. In these times, if the Bills won a championship in the same way that the Patriots did with Spygate, then sign me up for never winning a championship. I don't think I could take it from other fans and the media about how the Bills can only win a championship by cheating. Knowing our luck, the commissioner would make an unprecedented move by stripping the Lombardi trophy from the Bills.
