  1. I hear you, but considering OTAs won't be happening for a while and he probably wanted to "greet" everyone as soon as humanly possible, this might have been the best way to do it. Besides, this just shows he's hip with the texting, yo...
  2. Do you read any other posts in this thread?
  3. Every time I've seen him play, he looks like he's in complete control. He really runs their offense very well. If he was leaving for the NFL, he'd be pretty high on my list. Accurate arm (not very strong, which is a legit concern), poised, and smart. I don't remember many times when he was under pressure, either.
  4. It wouldn't surprise me (yet make me laugh at the same time) if every team out there is feeding a bunch of BS to the supposed "insiders" at E$PN, PFT, etc. If the Bills really met with Marrone 5 times, then guys like Shefter, Florio, & Glazer would have to be ticked beyond belief that they were fed a bunch of malarkey. That said, do we really believe they met with Marrone that many times in a week? Not impossible, but unlikely. Maybe some of those meetings were conference calls. Nevertheless, the whole coaching search/rumor mongering has become one big game. I've stopped believing everyone until there's a presser introducing the new coach.
  5. I'll reiterate this for you. I really hate it when we get caught up on what scheme a DC has been running through his career. If he's a good coach, he'll fit the scheme to the personnel they have. I'd really hope that Marrone wants to interview Pettine because he's a good coach, not just because he's the disgruntled Jets' DC.
  6. Disagree completely. Kansas City & Jacksonville would likely be picking a QB. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Jets trade up to get a QB, either. Besides, it's clear that Fred is the backup now. His value has dropped, even though he could still be considered a starter on a few other teams.
  7. Maybe I missed this.. "I am so done with this team."
  8. We won't know today, but I'd love to see Shafer come along.
  9. Plus, I can't get past the fact that the Bears have gotten off to two hot starts in 2011 and 2012, only to fall apart down the stretch.
  10. I'm still trying to figure out what the script letters are spelling out...
  11. I wouldn't be surprised if Smith & Whisenhunt were eventually offered the job, too. I just think this is a different direction with a coach who's fresh & hungry in his first NFL HC gig. We'll see what the brass says, but I have a feeling this was Brandon's plan all along.
  12. You're all (ok, most of you) unbelievable.... Ever since Monday, all I saw was "No more retreads! I'm tired of getting coaches that were fired elsewhere!" OK, so the Bills have gone out and given the job to a guy who will have his first NFL head coaching job and you're still complaining. Marrone is not new to the NFL. He was the Jets' OL coach for 4 years, where he turned a defensive tackle into a Pro Bowl offensive guard in a year. He was the Saints' OC for three years, where he coached Drew Brees. He's the "hot assistant" that everyone likes, but just because he wasn't an assistant of an NFL team this past year, then he's a cheap nobody? People - do your research before you flail on about this being a "cheap Brandon marketing" hire. Marrone has the background. Bill Walsh did the exact same thing as Marrone...had a handful of NFL assistant jobs before he became the HC at Stanford. He went from Stanford to the 49ers and did pretty well. Let's not jump to this being a bad hire just because Marrone's name isn't Lovie Smith.
  13. Almost every rushing TD was CJ. I'm one of Fred Jackson's biggest supporters, but seriously...why wasn't Spiller on the field more?
  14. A few people I know are on Twitter and do the same thing...they don't tweet, just follow others. I'm still a tad skeptical....
  15. This is precisely why I'm not on Twitter. I think my IQ would drop 80 points if I was on there for any more than an hour.
  16. Texans over Bengals Packers over Vikings Ravens over Colts Seahawks over Redskins I just don't see Washington hanging with Seattle. It'll be a crazy environment in DC, but I think Seattle is used to it. Houston will get back on track. I don't see Cincy's offense having enough firepower to score enough points. I still see Houston as the best bet in the AFC.
  17. This is a joke...there are enough teams in the playoffs now. We don't need any more. This is all money-driven. They'd be diluting the playoffs just to get more $$$ in their pockets.
  18. I've been against Kelly for a while now, but at least he makes sense with this. I've seen it too many times - you can't force an offensive system down a team's throat. You have to run a system that uses the current personnel's strengths and adapts to who is on the roster. This is how guys like Parcells, Bill Walsh, & Belichick won - they used the guys they have and built a system around them. This is the problem with a high-octane, no-huddle offense. The majority of games that the Bills lost in those days were because the offense couldn't stay on the field.
  19. Good...I hope he does go to Cleveland.
  20. You fire someone because they didn't fulfill the expectations of the job over a period of time. That's the bottom line - using the phrase "time for a change" is just a polite way is saying they didn't do the job like you wanted them to. So, while the general public thinks you did a good job, in the eyes of the organization, you failed. Lovie was fired because the Bears' front office felt that he failed. Same with Whisenhunt. Both are good coaches who probably didn't deserve to get fired, but that's my opinion. The only opinion that counts is that of the Bears' and Cardinals' front offices/owners. I wish everyone would remember that there are pros and cons to every candidate out there. In the eyes of Brandon, Whaley, & Nix, they have to find the guy who has more pros than cons.
  21. I always loved Charlie Jones...but Todd Christensen was one of the most condescending analysts I've ever listened to. At this point, I've tuned him out and just listened to Jones' calls.
  22. True story...I had been recording every Bills playoff game (in my lifetime) and at halftime of this game, I stopped the VCR with no intention of restarting it. My mother suggested I keep recording, so I did. Good thing... I also recorded a piece by NBC run a week later showing how many plays that went the Bills' way in the second half. Had any one of those plays gone Houston's way, the outcome of the game would likely have been different. A pass by Reich to Metzelaars that went through the hands of a Houston LB, the Beebe non-fumble, Beebe stepping out of bounds on the TD, a hold by Talley in OT that led to Odomes' INT, etc. What I loved about the comeback was how it was primarily the backups (Reich, Kenneth Davis, Beebe) that led the charge while the starters (Kelly, Thurman) were all cheerleaders on the sidelines. Andre Reed played a huge part, obviously, but Reich & Davis were the big players. You hardly even heard from Bruce Smith that game (save for a costly roughing the passer), since Darryl Talley, Carlton Bailey, and Mark Kelso were all making plays. It really was a great half by Houston, then a great half by Buffalo. I doubt it. Reich was the master of preparation, but Dallas had everything going for them in that game. Don't forget that Kelly started the AFC Championship against Miami and played well. Why do you say Reich was Tebow? Tim Tebow's got nothing on Frank Reich - two different types of QBs.
  23. This...who knows what happened that Superbowl night.... But his on-the-field mentality should be mimicked by everyone playing the game.
  24. First of all, to Derek. Great synopsis and I hope everyone on the board reads your post. Seriously? I can understand you saying that in 2010, as we had Lynch & Freddie, but I think the jury has returned the verdict on CJ. Just because we ended up 6-10 this year doesn't mean the CJ pick was the wrong one...as is the case with Dareus & Gilmore. True, not many of the other picks from 2010-12 have turned out to be studs, but how can we expect that (don't give me the Tom Brady case, either). I hate it when people say that recent drafts were a bust when it takes 2-3 years to develop a good evaluation.
  25. About the only thing I have against Lovie is how the Bears fell apart down the stretch two years in a row. Last year, they lost Cutler to injury and they didn't recover. They lost him for a few games again this year and looked horrible without him. Bad stretch runs when you're in line for the playoffs really are a killer.
