As a side note to the MNF post
BuffaloWings replied to damaynman150's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well said...I actually forgot about him. I never really even hated Aikman when he was killing the Bills, because he did it with class. I'd probably take him over McGuire, but I'd be happy with either. -

I don't remember Dierdorf until he showed up on MNF, but after he left there, he teamed with Enberg at CBS. Prior to NBC losing the AFC games to CBS, Enberg did games with Merlin Olsen, then Bob Trumpy, then with Simms & McGuire. Dick Enberg has always been a class act and he's a pleasure to listen broadcast any sport - be it football, basketball, or the Olympics. -

Dick Enberg is probably the best play-by-play man I've ever heard....with Al Michaels coming in a close second. Analysts are difficult, but the one I like these days is Paul McGuire. I wish he would be doing more NFL games, but he's fun to listen to. He does plenty of analysis, but mixes in enough humor to make the game more enjoyable to watch. -
It's been a rule for as long as I can remember, so yeah...WGR should let it go. That said, it's a silly rule, especially considering there were more fans at the Ralph on Sunday than in several other cities over the weekend, including the beloved Cowboys in Dallas. It would seem to make more sense to me if they blacked out the game if under a certain percentage of the tickets were sold.

The Bills don't have a better record - they're both 5-6. Besides, these are just subjective rankings by "experts". When it comes down to playoff positioning, the Bills are ahead of Miami, but they still have to play each other once more.

McGahee's Sense of Team
BuffaloWings replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills winning a couple of games without him might have something to do with it also. Just like when a star player holds out, when his team starts winning only then does the player (usually) relent a bit and come to terms. Sad to say these days, but it might likely be Willis realizing he won't get a big contract if he doesn't show up to play...and play hard. Rosenhaus is probably whispering in his ear. -
My first MNF game rant of the evening
BuffaloWings replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Best line by a guest since Howard Cosell was in the booth. I can't see this lineup lasting very long. I like Tirico, but I wonder how long Theismann will put up with Kornheiser taking shots at him. -
I understand that...but I swear I can remember them playing simultaneously. Living in Albany, I know there must have been a few times when I would have preferred to see the Bills play a decent opponent at 1:00, yet we get the Jets instead, so I settled for the Giants. Really...I swear....maybe....

3rd string QB and occasional RB/WR/ST player for the Jets. I'll go out on a limb and presume he meant Brad Johnson.
-
And all of these reasons contributed to Mathias Kiwanuka not bringing down Vince Young because he was afraif of a ticky-tack roughing call (my words, not his). Last night's phantom roughing the QB call made it blatantly clear that the refs are just way off as far as what should be roughing.

Anyone Watching the Snow Bowl ?
BuffaloWings replied to cåblelady's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
These games can be tough (and dangerous) for the players, but they're great to watch! This also tells us it's holiday time. There's nothing like watching a snow game with the tree lit and a beer in your hand. -
Now that I think about it....maybe this season, they haven't played at the same time. But they definitely have done so in the past.
-
It doesn't seem to matter if both the Jets & Giants are playing at the same time, as long as one is a CBS game and the other is a Fox game. Both of these teams frequently play simultaneously. This has more to do with TV than anything. CBS, who has the doubleheader, had only 1 late game to show the entire country (Denver at San Diego). By moving the Bills-Jets to 4:15, they'll get the NYC market in that time slot, also. So while we'd like to think the Bills are gaining respect with a quasi-nationally televised game, it's really just because CBS wants ratings and the Bills just happen to be playing a New York....ok, New Jersey....team that day. Luck of the draw, I guess.

I'm not sold just yet....but this is definitely nice to see. Maybe the coaches knew what they were doing when they re-shuffled the OL??? As far as next week, I won't say this is as important as the Pittsburgh game in 2004, but it's pretty high up there. If they can keep the game close and get it so that we're in for another nail-biter, then I'll be sold. They just need to stay away from stupid mistakes and keep the game plan intact. Two weeks ago, I wouldn't have given them a chance....now, I just might.

Holy meltdowns, Batman...
BuffaloWings replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The only possible explanation that makes sense to me is that Kiwanuka thought he had Young in the grasp and assumed the whistle was going to blow. Combined with what pBills said (avoiding a roughing penalty), that's probably what he was thinking. Whatever happened to playing until the whistle blows??? -
I just had to throw some fule on the fire. My biggest complaint about JP a month ago was waht I said...making the same mistakes over & over. If he's not making these mistakes anymore - and improving the offense at the same time - then I'm more likely to jump on his bandwagon. I'm not there just yet....but I'm starting to warm up to it again. And for the first time in God-knows-how-long, the Bills may be circling the wagons again...at least, according to Chris Berman.
-
I can't feel badly at all right now, but after not seeing the game yesterday, it's hard for me to still annoint JP as our savior just yet. Admittedly, I was behind him, but after the Oct 22nd New England game, I had given up on him. That was the last time I saw him and he was still making the same rookie-type QB mistakes. So - and I'm honestly asking - is he still making these mistakes at any point in the game (staring down his receivers, making poor decisions with the ball, running when he doesn't need to, holding onto the ball too long)? There's still room for improvement, but I'm glad to see the team is getting the wins they need to.

A Few Thoughts About The Game And The Bills
BuffaloWings replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It could have been worse. It could have been Plaxico Burress giving up on a route and watching an INT right in front of him....or it could have been Mathias Kiwanuka hugging Vince Young on 4th & 10 then watching him run for 19 yards for a 1st down. -
Brad Nessler was the play-by-play guy and I think it was Dick Vermeil doing color. Nessler usually does college football and basketball for ESPN/ABC and is one of the better play-by-play men around.

True....but while the opponents make adjustments to the QB, the great QBs adjust to those adjustments. Manning (Peyton) being one of them. I'll wait and see what happens when opposing defenses are able to shut him down. If Romo bounces back from those games and makes the appropriate adjustments, then I'll start to give him the benefit of the doubt. While he's having a good run right now, I think the jury is still out on him - and will be for a while.

I agree that there shouldn't be a rate increase to add a channel to the basic lineup, but that's the nature of the business. Companies like TW pay the network to carry it, so it's not like they have money to burn (well, maybe they do, but that's a topic for another thread). Costs like this are frequently passed on to the customer, hence the rate increases. That said, in your case, when did TW drop the NFL Network? What did they say when you asked them about the rate increase (when Empire was added to basic) that wasn't reduced when they dropped the NFL Network? Also, I'm not necessarily defending TW. They haven't necessarily been the greatest to me, either. But looking at this particular situation, I think the NFL Network is the one to blame here. I still want someone to tell me why they should tell the cable outlets what package their network should be on. From a *global perspective*, wouldn't TW lose a lot of money if they just put NFLN on basic/standard cable without increasing the rates?

Watching Bledsoe grump around on the sidelines
BuffaloWings replied to ajzepp's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is what's scaring me at the moment. Romo is running the offense very well and it seems like he's got a very good feel for the position. That said, let's see how long this continues. Opposing teams usually start making adjustments after a few games, so I'd like to see how far Romo brings them. -
Yet it does apply to Collinsworth? Sterling Sharpe may not be the best analyst in the business, but he's much more likely to say what he *really* thinks. Collinsworth is an analyst just so he can hear himself talk....forget about how he changes his opinions weekly.

The march to the playoffs continues
BuffaloWings replied to The Senator's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love the optimism here, but I'm not yet sold that the Bills can beat the Jags. While Jacksonville has been pretty inconsistent this year, they still have a punishing, beat-you-up defense. JP could be hurting a bit by the end of this game. -
I'm one of the unlucky Time Warner customers that never saw it, but I'd have to think that we need to give them a few games to get better. After that, then we can say how bad they suck. That said, I wondered about Bryant Gumbel as a play-by-play guy and didn't miss Cris Collinsworth last night. I can only imagine how painful the game was to watch - based solely on the broadcasters.
